Blahhh!!

Ok, for starters, my computer is fairly new, I bought it last December, it's 2.6 GHz, 256 MB RAM, 80 GB HD, Intel Celeron processor etc etc. So yesterday I bought Star Wars: Battlefront thinking how awesome it's gonna be to play a game on a good system. EH, Wrong. I still have lag and it's choppy and delayed, I mean honestly, on this comp., this game should run as smooth as a game on xbox. So any suggestions on why this is happening, or how to remedy the problem.

I bet you need more RAM.

...or

You playing on line against others? Cause if so, it might be them lagging, not you.
If it's just you playing yourself, make sure you have every other program shut off. Even the internet, start up in safemode. Turn off antivirus and firewalls etc.

I don't think RAM is the problem, I have 256 mb RAM, and it says I need 256 RAM mb on the game box.

they always say the bare minimum to run it, key words there "run it", they dont say "run it perfectly with no lag". 512 RAM is what you need if you want the game to run and play smoothly, also if your using onboard gfx or if you have an old gfx card, might wanna think abotu upgrading them.

Also does your motherbaord have an AGP slot, if yes, read on. If not, get a new mobo with an AGP slot, then read on!

you can get like a 9600XT card and a stick of 256 *making 512* for about £150 now if you look in the right places, and you cant be assed to look far try these.

www.cclcomputers.co.uk - gfx card *if in uk*
www.ebuyer.com - for gfx card if in us/uk
www.crucial.com - RAM
www.repmegood.com -

Remeber also that when you use onboard video it steals the ram from your system to power it, so your 256 mb ends up being more like 224mb or even 192mb

I just built a celeron 2.8ghz on an intel board, 512mb ram and a cheap 128mb ATI 9200 video card, for a cheap system the damn thing is kicking ass at the moment. I havent really stressed it out yet though.

How cheap are we talking? Cuz at the time, I didn't have over 2 grand to shell out for the best specs.

I would guess around $700 at the most for the whole thing. If that. Depending on what type of memory he got I would say the memory + the 9200 ran him about $130-140. Plus the 2.8Ghz is about $110 now. Not expensive at all compared to others out there.

Depending on what video card you have, if any, your computer probably shouldn't have been bought for anything over $500-600. Again, that's depending on if you have a video card.

Just upgrade your RAM. That should be enough to play your game without lagging, unless you plan on playiung more powerful games down the line.

The current one was;
Ram 120$ (generic crap)
ATI 9200 80$
2.8 Celeron 170$
Intel MB 160$
HDD SATA 120gig 120$
dvd rom 40$
dvd duel format duel layer re-writable burner 140$
PSU 40$
case 100$

so thats about $970 aussie dollars.
plus then all the mods, powder coating, led fans, fan controller, rounded cables, fluro lights, perspex, led feet, blah blah blah

I priced the cheapest system I could possibly get just few days ago and i came to a grand total of $550, case and PSU included, no burner, 256 mb ram on-board vid 2.4 ghz celeron etc etc.

What the above people said. 9600 is a good card, get more RAM, etc.. I have 768 RAM, only 1.6GHz p4, and a 9600XT. My computer runs nicely with most games.

Your main problem is your stock graphics card actually. Buying a new one will work wonders. Then I'd just buy a 512 stick of ram and bump up to 768. Will be nice..

That means you're running at 192 system ram with 64 shared video.

For higher end games like starwars, you'd want 1 gig of ram, and a 128-256mb 8x agp graphics card.

The ATI 9600xt is an excellent card...if you want a cheaper soulution, geforce 5600...you can pick up the 128 meg version for under 100 bucks canadian $

first off...ask yourself how bad do you want to play games on your computer, and are you willing to drop a couple of hundred bucks into it.

if you are, you'll need 3 things.

A new motherboard that has an AGP slot - i'd go with the Gigabyte GA-8S655FX-L - Great mobo, will work with your CPU and retails for around 100 bucks canadain.

New video card. Like I said in a previous post, you're looking in the 100-200 range.

Id also reccomend more ram, add another 512 to what you have, thats gigabye motherboard has 4 ram slots, so add another 512 to it in the future.

What is the best buy for a PCI slot compatible graphics card?

and for RAM, I'm looking at the different types, and sometimes it says PC2700 or PC3200, which one is compatible with my system?

PCI video cards wont really do much extra for you, you can get a 256mb geforce 5200 pci card for around $150 cad or a ati radeon 9200 128mb for about $95cdn.

As far as your ram goes, you'd have to check your exsisting stick. It'll probably have a sticker on it or something that says what type...I wouldnt be surprised if it was PC2100.

Ok I just checked my RAM, and it's PC2700, 256 mb, DDR, 333 Mhz, Cl 2.5. Now, if I upgrade my RAM, do I have to buy a stick that is 333 Mhz and Cl 2.5, or could I get 400 Mhz Cl 3.0 if I wanted to?

well all the 9200se you listed are ATI cards, which are better than the geforce 5200.

as to what manufacture, i dont really know, we sell the powercolour ones, and they seem fine
