Okay, say you have a regular bass drum.

Not to deep or anything.

(it was cheap)

Is there a way to make it sound more deep or to have a more defined sound?

Can this be achieved by tightening the drumheads?

I ask because I bought a used drumset to start out. I've been wanting one for a long time and I had no money or privacy to actually enjoy it until now.

I figure I can piece by piece buy what I want.

So that is what I want to know.

I think there is more but I cant think.

House of Pancakes does not have that much rep yet (10+)
This seems simple, but most drummers I know do this. Take blankets and put them inside the hole of the bass drum. It muffles the sound to make it tighter. If it's a looser, deeper sound you're looking for, lossening the drumhead would be best, but not too much.

Yeah, as HoP said, throw some blankets or old towels inside the bass drum. That'll give you a duller, muffled sound.

The tighter the skins on the drum, the higher the pitch of the hit. So if you're looking for a deep sound, loosen the skins.

duct tape a large coin to where the pedal hits the drum too. thats for a more metal type drum sound anyway. i'm not sure what would be a good type of coin to use, since i don't know american money.

What about the actual pedal itself?

I mallet is kinda hard.

Should I keep it that way or get a softer mallet head?
