Rhodes In, Jarrett Out

Rhodes Takes Over At Impact!; Major Backstage Meeting w/ Changes

- At the Impact! tapings last night in Orlando, FL (which featured the taping of two shows in one night as a new way to save money), Jerry Jarrett officially introduced Dusty Rhodes as the new booker of TNA, replacing Jeff Jarrett. Jeff did work the Main Event for the second Impact event that will air on December 3rd, but had nothing to do with the booking this week.

- Following Rhodes' introduction, he gave a ten minute speech in regards to his plans as the new booker to get the wrestlers excited about his vision. Rhodes made it clear that he has a very different vision of where he sees the promotion going than Jeff Jarrett did and that changes will be taking shape in the next few weeks.

- In addition to giving a speech to the TNA wrestlers, Rhodes also met separately with the X Division wrestlers on the roster. Rhodes said he wanted them to slow down their style a bit in the ring and work on getting their personalities over more. It should be noted that he was very supportive and said many positive things, including that he felt they were extremely underpromoted thus far in the company. Rhodes promised that his job would be to make the viewers know their personas better and planned to give many of them more character-development with more promo time.

----------------------------------------

Well, I hope Rhodes means everything he says. Character development is definately what they need in there. I mean good wrestlers are nice and all, but if the crowd can't connect with you from the time you come through that curtain to the time the match finishes, then how are you ever suppossed to make a name for yourself. Guys need to differentiate themselves from the rest ofthe pack in the X-Division, which is one of the main problems I have with all those guys. Half of those guys seem to same to me.

it's cool but I dunno about Dusty... only time will tell but if it means character development in the X division then I guess I'm all for it.

That's really good news.

Rhodes is likely to take the main focus away from Jarrett and give some other main eventers a chance at glory (i.e. Styles, Alpha Male, The Truth, etc.). Otherwise watching Impact is like watching RAW with better matches.

He's likely to take the focus away from Jarrett and put it on himself, or Dustin Rhodes.

I don't know, I think it's a bad move in a way. TNA seemed to be working OK the way it was. People are already saying that this move (Jarrett away from being head booker) is for the benefit of Hogan.

I think Jarret's been doing good job booking TNA. His stuff with Hall and Nash have been great.

I was goin more along the thinking patterns of Mackem. I just don't want to see the show focused too much on Dusty or Dustin. Mainly not too much on Dusty.

But like I said earlier, I think, only time will tell and hopefully it'll be for the better.

er..... We've seen how Dusty Rhodes has booked in the past. I don't know if this was such a good idea on TNA's part.

Anyone else booking is better than Jeff Jarrett booking i reckon.

Edit:That anyone else doesn't include people who book the WWE btw.

Well, I do not believe a wrestler should have any creatie control period so I am glad. However, I just don't like the idea of Dusty Rhodes having control of the show.

He says he wants more promo's and interviews for x division wrestlers. I have seen his promo's... and they are God awful most of the time, so he best not be writing them.

I still believe they should not be asking the X Division wrestlers to slow down. If they are given a character that fits them well then they will naturally 'slow' it down in the ring as they get into character and taunt the hell out of the fans and whatever.

I like the thought of character development in the X Division. Right now, the only Xers with clear characterization are:

AJ Styles ("Phenomenal," the division's cornerstone)
Petey Williams (cocky foreign heel champion)
Kazarian and Shane (cocky heels, watching each other's backs)
Kid Kash (the asshole)

Chris Sabin is coming along with his recent promos. He's been able to get by on his fantastic in-ring work to this point, but a strong character could push him to an AJ-like level.

But guys like Alex Shelley (post-Goldylocks), Amazing Red, Jerrelle Clark (man can not live on "Mr. 630" alone), Mikey Batts, and Sonjay Dutt need more developed personalities. Sonjay's "Original Playa From The Himalayas" is a good start, and hopefully they'll play on that more in coming weeks.

However, I don't think that characterization and a fast style are necessarily mutually exclusive. Perhaps the matches should utilize better psychology, but don't start restricting their spots. That's what makes the X Division the X Division.

This has to be one of the biggest non stroies of all time. The Jarrett's still have all the stroke int he company, so Jeff will still be the top guy, even though he shouldn't be anywhere near the top of the card. Whatever, they're dead anyway.

I am gonna be really mad if they turn the x-division into what the wwe cruiserweight division is today. They wanted them to tone it down and now it sucks. The x-division is one of the few reasons why I tune into TNA everyweek.
