Which DVD type is best to back stuff up onto?

I've been using DVD-RW to back all my shit up onto, but I noticed that DVD-R has a faster write speed, since it says 4x on the disc, and my RWs are 2x, is there any other differences between the two DVD types apart from that, and the ability to erase and rewrite ?
