Anyone have a DS?

Anyone here got a Nintendo DS yet?
I ordered mine last night, and it's being shipped to the UK today, so I should hopefully arrive by the end of the week.
Just wondered if anyone has one, and if it lives up to the hype.

If I get a portable system, I think I'll hold out for the PSP.

Doubt I'll get either though really.

It has no compatibility problems, they're being made region free again.
Also for a charger you can use the GBA SP's charger if you're worried about conversion or something like.

As it stands now the DS is a much better value than the PSP. THe PSP is set to release at $300, and only have a 1.5 hour battery life while playing games. Gonna suck.

Yeah thats my opinion also.

I'd rather have a handheld with innovative games than an over-priced, over-powered unit with a 2 hour battery life.

Yes there will be.
I read something in Edge that during the next Pokemon movie, if you take along your DS with Pokemon, you'll be able to wirelessly download new (and possibly exclusive) Pokemon to your save.
Dunno how many you'll be able to download, it was worded both like "You'll be able to download a Pokemon" and "You'll be able to download Pokemon as they appear on screen"

Don't see why you'd need a DS for that...considering they packaged a wireless adaptor with Fire Red and Leaf Green.

No argument that the DS will definitly be a much better value than the PSP, but to be honest I really don't don't take that into account much when buying game systems. I figure that it's a one time investment, and if I think I'll like one system a lot more than another I'll take the hit of a few hundred more bucks for it. Definitly understand where you're coming from though.

The battery thing really doesn't bother me much either too, since I don't really ever go on extended trips that I'd play games on, if I got either system it'd be to play their unique games at my house with the sysem plugged in as I played.

Eddie 3:16 does not have that much rep yet (10+)
According to this months GamesMaster magazine, the Japan release of the PSP will be at the price equivalent of £107, so I'll more than likely be around that sort of price when released over here, it also has a 6 hour gaming battery life.

But I'm still probably gonna get a DS as well, the thought of Mario 64 on the go is enough to make me...Now all Nintendo need to do is convince Rare to release a version of GoldenEye...

According to the official Sony Press release (our sponsor this month at EB) it will have an 8 hour battery life for playing music, 6 hours for a dvd, and roughly 2 hours for playing games, which they're still working on trying to improve it, but it's unlikely it'll improve because they're also trying to cut the cost.

In Edge it said you could probably get 6 hours gaming battery life, if the wireless function is off, the brightness is set to minimum and the volume is low or off.
Also it depends on the game you're playing, a simple puzzle game is gonna let the battery last longer than a fast paced game, such as, say, Ridge Racers.

The DS is pretty damn cool, but there seems to be a gap in their target audience and the people who will actually be able to figure things out. The younger audience playing their GBAs for pokemon and harry potter all want a new DS, but I think the touch screen is a bit harder concept for them. Sure it still amuses them (which is really the point anyway) but I don't think they'll be fully enjoying everything you can get out of the games.

This is all based on watching the little kids try to figure out how to play it in the store. Oh, and the games are so frickin small that little kids will lose them on a daily basis (which may also be the point).

Well, except this is true of any new technology when kids first get their hands on it.

Besides, imagine how LITTLE the touch screen has to do in order for it to work for Pokémon in a way that gets the kiddies' attention. Don't underestimate kids and their ability to adapt to new things. They're better at it than we are.

Meanwhile, the DS seems to have actually taken some steps towars being a bit more adult friendly (Or a bit less kiddy) which is necessary to compete in the modern market.
