My soundcard isn't working
I'm getting an error whenever I try to play a sound and there's nothign coming out at all.
About 45 minutes ago it was fine, and I was listening to an album, now it's not working at all, and the only thing I can think of that could affect it is that the AdAware scan I ran made it go wrong. The error I get from Winamp: Bad DirectSound driver. Please install the proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error Code: 88780032 The error I got when I tried to play a sound in the Windows sound config: Windows cannot play the %SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP Error.wav file. The file may be damaged or may use an unrecognised compression format. To resolve this problem, replace the file or use the Add/Remove Programs in Control panel to install Audio Compression. Erm, help! I have no signature. |

use the adaware tool to recover the files you removed in the adware scan, restart, then see if your Sound works.
Also, what kind of sound card/PC do you have? |

update your sound card drivers, re-install audio codecs, check for spyware.

Actually I found out what's causing it just.
There's something running in my tasks list that's called "System" Now this wasn't there before last night, and I tried to close it then with no success. Booted up the PC (again) just and tried to close it, no more sound. Not sure how to get rid of this because according to a search I did it's a spyware program thing. |

have you updated them to the latest versions?
Also, start the PC in safe mode when you scan. |
