Is there a problem with Creative Live! and AMD or something?

When I got my PC upgraded, I basically got a new motherboard, processor, and video card. I noticed my sound card is completely fucked to hell. It worked fine before the upgrade, so obviously something in the upgrade process screwed up. I know it wasn't the video card, for obvious reasons. So that leaves the motherboard, and the AMD processor.

The reason I think it's the AMD is only because somebody mentioned something about AMDs having trouble with sound or something. I was playing WoW and I went to turn on Winamp and the music was really choppy and ick. I just casually mentioned it in the chat, and the one guy was like "Are you on an AMD?" And I was like yeah, and he said something about how AMDs do that.

Was this guy just being an idiot, or is there a legitimate problem? I'd like to know, because in the current state I can't even get my microphone set up, so going on vent is impossible, which really hurts the game experience.

If that has nothing to do with it, there's another possibility, I guess. In my device manager, in the sound card section, there is nothing about Creative in there at all. The only card listed is Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller. There is also Wave Device for Voice Modem. I'm not sure what that means. Is it possible that they changed my sound card when upgrading or something? I reinstalled my Creative drivers about 6 times, and even went online to try and download them, and nothing works. Every time after a fresh download I go to open the Audio HQ (Creative Live! software package) and it says I have no Creative card installed on my PC.

I don't believe AMD has any problems with Creative products. I'm on, basically, the same system and I've never heard any better audio then what I've got. Check and see what card you're using by going to Start > Run > "dxdiag" > Sound 1 tab. That should bring up information about your soundcard and actually see if they didn't do anything. If it comes down to it, you can just use your motherboards onboard sound if needed.

Ahhh thanks

Yeah I checked on dxdiag, and apparently that Realtek card is my soundcard? I don't get it. Realtek is the brand of my ethernet card, so why would it be my sound card too? Do you know if Realtek makes sound cards as well? I was really quite happy with my Creative Live! card, so it would be nice to have that. I don't remember them saying anything about changing the soundcard, but if that's the case then they may get an angry phone call. :foc:

However, until I get that sorted, how would I go about using the onboard sound from my motherboard or whatever? Like my PC actually does have audio, but my options are very limited. I can't adjust the bass/treble, surround speakers, use my mic, etc. Would using the onboard sound enable any of that? At least temporarily, until I get my Creative stuff fixed?

AC'97 is your onboard sound, I used to have that on the old PC (I think I have it on this motherboard too), anyway, I had nothing but problems with that when it came to installing games and shit, so I wouldn't bother with it.

See if you can change your sound device in the Sound/multimedia thing in Control Panel, its not the one you change the windows sounds one, I think it's just called Multimedia, i'm pretty sure you can just change the sound card you want your PC to use on that.

If that doesn't work, try removing the AC'97 and your Creative sound card on the Device Manager, and reinstall them

That Realtek thing sounds a bit weird, my NIC card is made by them too, I dunno if they do soundcards or anything.

Hmmm. Well whatever the case is, it seems like my Creative card isn't there. I've done all that, and it won't show up. I noticed too when I was hooking my PC up when I brought it home from the shop that the slots looked a bit different and all, but I figured that was just due to the new motherboard. I have to call the shop up anyways sometime soon, so I'll ask them if they like changed my card or took it out or something.

Yeah it's using your onboard sound now. Open up your case and see how many cards are in your PCI slots. If they took out your sound card, call them up. I don't know what they would do but it's worth a shot. If you want to buy a new one they are like $25 for a pretty good one.

You can try going to your device manager (right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager) and searching for new hardware and maybe it could bring it up but if you had one in there it should overide your motherboard sound.

Yeah I did the device manager thing (that's the only way I know how to look at hardware and stuff, didn't know about dxdiag, lol ), and couldn't find anything there.

I haven't looked inside yet, but I will tonight. Once I get my ass off WoW for more than 10 minutes.
