Jermain O'neal's suspension cut to 15 games.
The Arbitrator ruled that all the suspensions are to be upheld accept O'neal's which was cut from 25 games to 15 games which makes him eligble to play against the Pistons saturday.

I guess there was no specific reason as to why they cut O'neals suspension .

The league is taking it to court because they felt the Arbitrator had no say in the situation.

Personally i think the league is gunna let it go.

1) Its the right thing to do. O'neal decked a guy that was on the court attacking Artest. Did he deserve a suspension.. yes.. did he deserve a 25 game suspension... no.

2) Man you know David Stern is looking at Christmas Day thinking... Kobe v.s Shaq + O'neal returning to the pacers to play the Pistons in the rematch of the Brawl in Auburn hills. Huge ratings. This may be the first time the NBA can actually say everyone will be watching the product all day.

If O'neal isnt playing this saturday against the Pistons. The NBA are morons. Cause they no damn well they stand to make huge ratings with O'Neals return to that game.

I cant wait. Its gunna be a Merry Christmass here in INdy.

Huh? He blind sided the guy, yeah he was on the court, but O'neal flew out of nowhere and blindsided the guy.

That being said, I can see Stern challenging it, simple because he doesn't want a precident where the arbitrator can over-rule the nba's suspensions.

3. He was winding up to punch a player

Thats justification to take him out IMO. And a punch was excessive which is why he deserves 15 instead of 5 or 7.

Of course Stern will appeal it. Ratings are nice but sending a message to players and fans that this kind of stuff isn't tolerated is more important.

You guys are funny. WHO THE FUCK CARES IF HE IS A ATHLETE!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's a person just like us who happend to make alot more money doing what he does then we do ... doing what we do. It doesnt not give a fan the right the throw a cup. To hurl racial obsenity's. TO walk on the court and look for a fight, or to walk on the court period.

That fan walked on the court with his friend barking and jumping and curling there fists. Ready for any type of fight or argument. What happend. Fan number one flexxed up and got put down. Fan number two was getting up was about to lunge towards Artest . And O'neal ran over there and made sure he stayed down.

Now look. I'm not totally biased here. I totally believe O'neal should have gotten 15 games in the first place. But you cannot tell me that if you were in the same situation where theres obviously a severe lack of security at that point in the incident and fans are charging the court, that you wouldnt not do whatever it takes to protect yourself or your teamates. O'neal doesnt know what this guy is gunna do. He doesnt know if this guy is gunna pull a gun or a knife. All he see's is NO SECURITY WHAT SO EVER(thx detroit) and a "Fan" getting up and ready to charge Ron Artest. O'neal did what he had to do . He was protecting himself and his teamates.

Now Artest and Jackson on the other hand.... Well just Jackson.. His suspension should be longer after i think about it more.

I don't think your thinking of the same thing.

I'm not talking about when the guys came up to Artest on the court and he started throwing at them. That was fine.

After, it was broken up, the guy was off to the side by the bench, he was not winding up, his hand were at his sides.

(someone find a link the the video, it's been awhile, maybe I missed him winding up before O'neal blindsided him, but I thought his hands were at his sides).

That's assault, not self defense, and assault is against the law.

yeah he hit the guy in the pistons jersey who came on the court and was going with artest... I don't mind though anyone here would have done the same thing if one of their friends was gonna get in a fight with two guys.

Ok, I re-watched the video, when O'neal suck punched that guy, it was after Artest was already being held by a player on the otherside of the court. There was no need or reason for what O'neal did.

and Cheebs your a cop... Let me ask you.

2 guys get in a fight, it's broken up and they're going there seperate ways. there now about a block away from each other (or say 50feet) but again, moving away from each other the fight was broken up. One of the guys who was in the fight is standing there, arms at his sides, moving away. Someone comes running over and sucker punches the guy.

Is that assault or self defense?

ok put it this way, they have a team mentallity they're like a brother hood... If someone walked into a police station and threw something at a policeman theres' a good chance that he would be in a little pain by the time he was done... even though it's not legal at all, that's the kinda stuff that happens when you're on a team... I am not a fan of what he did and I believe the courts will deal with there stuff and im not even a person who likes "sports and laws" together but they did jump in the crowd and that's understandable. I don't believe O'neil jumped in the crowd though so if he felt threatened of the guy on the court then that's just as much as self-defense.

Self defense isn't always "he hit me first" if you feel threatened that's still self-defense.

I agree with that, if he felt threatend, but there's no way unless he's a complete idiot that he could have felt threatend at that point, the guy wasn't anywhere near him.

it will be interesting to see what the courts finally do when it's all over.

I think that 25 games for O'Neal was a little overkill. He didn't go into the stands like the other guys, and if I'm not mistaken he only threw one punch. With his history and everything, 25 games is a lot. Thats 1/3 of the whole season.

VonErich how can you say he wasnt threatend when the Palace of Auburn hills didnt even have enough security to break up a cripple fight let alone 10 , 6 foot men. With irate Pistons fans storming the floor looking for either a honest fight or a dishonest lawsuit. O'neal didnt know if there was gunna be a Piston fann with a weapon or not. He didnt know anything. All he knew was that there was no one and i mean " NO ONE " standing inbetween him and the Piston fans storming the floor.

In all honesty, all biast aside. The Piston organization needs to be held accountable for that bull shit.

Look i'll give you the argument against Jackson and Artest. I've simmered down about there suspensions and understand. But i will never give you the O'neal argument. It was a hectic situation and fans were coming on the court for fights. He defended his teamates and hiself. No matter how much of a sucker punch it looked like. Imagine if that guy had a weapon and O'neal didnt punch him. I cant even imagine what would happen. I dont want to. I'm glad O'neal punched him.

It was a huge brawl. If a bunch of my friends got into a fight with a bunch of other kids and we were all fighting. I would do the same exact thing, I don't care if somebody is looking or not. That is what happens in a huge ass brawl. Its not like he walked up to somebody randomly and just wrapped him like the guy had no idea what was coming. That wasn't a "pussy" move at all.

Stima, the situation you gave doesn't work in this situation.

Stima, Robb, Rectal. The 3 of you need to re-watch the video, and you'll see the timing, locaction etc... of O'Neals punch and you'll understand how out of line he was and there was no need for it.

Rectal he wasn't threatend, the guy he hit was no where near him, O'neal charged him and hit him. The guy wasn't charging at someone, the guy wasn't anywhere near O'neal or going after a player, they had started getting some control.

Anyway, Sten is letting O'neal play over the weekend but is supposed to be back in court monday that the federal arbitrator has no juristiction in the NBA.

It's funny, when the Wolves got nailed for an unwritten contract they lost 5 pics, and Stern changed it to 2 or 3.

For Stern this isn't about the NBA image, or violence or any of that, it's control, if Stern just lets this go w/o fighting it, then every suspension they give will go to arbitration and Stern will have less control.
