To you, who are the 5 guys who made wrestling...

enjoyable to you?

This is just a topic I thought of, boredom I suppose. But try and think hard, who are 5 guys, who through out your time of watching, really and truly made you love the sport. Try and do it in order.

1. Paul Heyman: Heyman is a creative genius. I had stopped watching wrestling for the most part after around 97, until I stumbled upon some ECW tapes. When I watched ECW it was probably the most fun and enjoyment I had through wrestling. Just brilliant writing, controversial storylines, and great character development. Heyman always mentions this, as has everyone associated with him, Paul was incredible at hiding your flaws, and showcasing your strengths.

2. Shawn Michaels: From a talent perspective, I didn't for a long time think it could get any better. Shawn was one of the first heels I really enjoyed, incredible in ring talents, amazing psychology and just flat out put on a show. He wasn't the biggest, but the way his character was built and through his ability to play it, I was hooked. His victory at WrestleMania 12 is probably my favorite moment. One of the two guys in history (Bret being the other) who could carry ANYONE and EVERYONE to at least a 4 star match (Nash and Sid anyone?)

3. Ted Dibiase/Jake Roberts: I honestly don't know why but I always group these two together. AMAZING heels, probably the two best in the history of the business. Both had amazing psychology and just that certain intangible that made me want to watch. Jake's promo's were amazing, and Ted had the ability to walk out and play his character better than anyone else on the card.

4. Kurt Angle: Kurt is the guy who made me watch when there was no other reason. Probably the best all around performer ever. Great on the mic, incredible in ring talents and just flat out uncanny ability to make his opponent look good without losing any credibility at all. Kurt could lose to the Gooker and still be over like a million bucks.

5. Ultimo Dragon: Dragon is a legend, and the sad thing is, he's probably one of the only legends who the casual fan could look at and not know a damn thing about. Great innovator of moves, uncanny ability, and unreal passion. Ultimo could carry most anyone to a great match. His moves were mesmerizing and just awe striking. Truly a pleasure to have been fortunate enough to watch a ton of his matches, both in Japan the States.

Honorable mentions: Dynamite Kid, Chris Beniot, William Regal, Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Taz, Don Callis, and Bret Hart

I'm doing this in order, not of how much I enjoyed them, but the order in which they effected me.

1) The Ultimate Warrior - He was my first favorite wrestler when I started watching. I never wanted him to lose. EVER. I don't even really know why. He was just so cool to me. I liked him WAY more than I ever liked Hogan, and I remember being really pissed off when Sgt. Slaughter beat him for the WWF title at that....Royal Rumble, was it?

2) Bret Hart - I suppose Bret came next after the Warrior had long fizzled out. He seemed like a genuinely good guy and he was an excellent wrestler, so it was hard not to like him. I remember being seriously pissed when he lost to Shawn Michaels in that Iron Man match, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

3) Owen Hart - When he was the Blue Blazer and part of High Energy and all that bullshit, I really didn't care about him. But when he turned heel and started feuding with Bret Hart (even though Bret was still my favorite), I couldn't help but start liking the guy. He was the first heel that I ever cheered for. When he beat Bret at Wrestlemania X, I wasn't even upset. I was shocked, but I wasn't upset. Especially since Bret won the title later that night, but enough on that.

4) Chris Jericho - Not the watered down, babyface Jericho that we see today, but the WCW Cruiserweight champion, Chris Jericho. For a very long time, he was the ONLY reason that I watched WCW. Again, when he was a face, I didn't give a single fuck about him, but his heel turn was SO creatively done. He would lose a match, get pissed at the ref, and attack him. But then the next match, he'd offer an apology for his actions, and I think that he even bought one ref a suit to make up for his behavior.

That was just the tip of the iceberg, though. When he turned full blown heel and started the "Man of 1004 Holds" and the debating loopholes and whatnot, I fell in LOVE with the character. My favorite moment during this run was without a doubt when he was trying to emulate Goldberg's entrance, but got lost on the way to the ring, ending up in the parking lot. I STILL laugh when I think about that.

I remember being really excited when he came to the WWF, and at first, he was awesome. But I just can't stand Jericho as a face. As long as he's heel, he's tops in my book.

5) Steve Austin - Maybe I should have placed this one before Jericho in the timeline, but I don't right remember. Doesn't matter much anyway. The "Stone Cold" character was just revolutionary on so many levels, and I loved it. I even think that his theme music alone had something to do with how much I liked the character. He was just so...bad ass. However, I still cheered for Bret when they feuded.

5. Vince Russo- Despite him (allegedly) killing WCW, the guy had some great ideas and started the Attitude era that got me back into watching WWE after I had stopped around 93.

4. Goldberg- Got me into watching and following WCW

3. Paul Heyman- Same reasons as HeartBreakKid2K

2. Jeff Hardy- The risky spots he used to take made me wanna watch any match he was in.

1. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

All in order...
1. Owen Hart: He was in the first wrestling match I saw and that's what started my love for wrestling. So for that, he is the reason wrestling has been entertaining.

2.Undertaker: He is the one that made me enjoy wrestling even more. Damn, I loved that character. No matter what he did, he would always just get back up and not stop until the guy would rest in peace.

3. Jericho: I knew about wrestling from this man. I don't know many high flyers that came before him that didn't end with the last name Hart but he was the one that lead the way for me watching Lucha Libre and Japanese wrestling. Plus, he has got it all, as he will make fun of you while kicking your ass.

4. Stone Cold Steve Austin: I mostly went for him since he was more real than the Rock was. I like the Rock too but Austin... he just can't be stopped! No one can stop him, not even a broken neck! Good ol' times with Austin back in the Attitude era, why can't we have that again?

5. Vince McMahon: I had to put him there. He's made so many great choices and many bad ones but still you know he is trying to make the best damn show possible. And what about anytime, out of the blue, he appears on one of the shows? That's always guarenDAMNteed a loud pop! He is the man.

1. Bret Hart - My first favorite and my most favorite. Bret entertained me every time he was in the ring or on the mic.

2. Sgt. Slaughter - Believe this one or not. He deserves practically all the credit for me getting into wrestling. I mean he was on GI Joe for Christ sake! That's how I got into wrestling.

3. Ted DiBiase - I hated him SO MUCH. Of course, that made wrestling 5000000000x more enjoyable, just wanting to see him get his ass kicked SO bad. Good timce.

4. Randy Savage - Are you kidding me? In the ring, or on commentary, Savage was fucking GOLD. Savage always made every thing he was in enjoyable as possible.

5. (tie) Vince McMahon/The Rockers Like everyone else has done, Vince deserves alot of credit for entertaining me for 12 years solid. He's the one thing the company probably would have failed without.

Also, I think the Rockers deserve a mention. They were my first introduction to the high-flying style. And, this is the only way Shawn Michaels would ever get a mention.

I'll go in order from who I first got into..like a timeline:

1. Piper: He did it for me in the 80's man. He was energetic, charismatic, crazy, great stick work..Piper's Pit was my fave segment. Many memorable moments from that segment. He was my fave wrestler for a while, and the reason I got into the wwf. Always wanted to see him beat Hogan's ass.

2. Bret Hart: Liked the Hart Foundation, but was more a fan of the team and not a single wrestler..that all changed once Bret became a singles wrestler mostly..I once liked him, and then grew to love him, in a very heterosexual manner mind you ..his matches were awesome, and he just got to me..it's hard to describe.

3. Owen Hart: He is tied with my next mention, I started liking them both about the same time really..Owen when he came forth as that whining younger brother just made the next few years watchable for me, as that was the feud(him and Bret) that kept me riveted. I dont think anyone has played that jealous, whiney, heelish sneaky character better then owen. Really good heel imo. And he could match Bret pretty much in the ring.

4. Brian Pillman: Reason I watched any wcw at all. Liked him from the get go, but then seriously started to love him around 1995..when he and his charcter evolved into the psychopath. Performed the greatest shoot/work angle in history imo, and was great on the mic and in the ring. Shitty ankle injury from a car wreck fucked things up in the end unfortunately, but would have been big time had he lived longer. Was my fave wrestler with Bret at this time.

5. Steve Austin: Always a bit below Pillman for me, but I liked him alot. Became a guy I couldnt wait to watch on tv in 1996. His KOTR speech is forever ingrained in my wrestling memory log files. He was just oozing intensity.

HBK - Just an awesome in ring talent
Jericho - Great all round performer
HHH - From his first title reign to his injury he probably was the best. At that time he didn't seem to have a bad match
Angle - Always put on good matches and took part in some of the funniest stuff particularly with E & C

Vince would be an automatic on the list but I don't feel like including non wrestlers.

***Mind you I don't think these men are the most important wrestlers or wrestling personalities in history, however, the question asked who was important to me, and this would be the list***

1. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan: To me, he was, is, and always will be the voice of professional wrestling. On these threads we always talk about our dream matches, well everytime I write down a dream match I imagine Heenan calling it. Whether he was with Gorilla Monsoon or with Tony Shivone, Heenan was always the best half of great announce teams. We always think of Heenan and his funny lines, but he was much more then that. He had a great kncak for making small matches seem big.

2. "Flyin'" Brian Pillman: Pillman always has a special place in my heart, because he was always my favorite wrestler? Why? Because he was always the underdog, and everyone loves the underdog, and everyone loves the Yellowdog too. One of my favorite moments in wrestling was when he entered War Games with a seprated sholder, I remember being actually proud of him. All the way through he was my favorite. Hell he's the reason I'm a Cincinnati Bengals fan, which up until the past two years I hated him for, haha.

3. The Steiner Brothers: It was the first ever wrestling PPV (or just a big televised main show I'm not sure) and I went upstairs to watch wrestling with my dad. It was a tag team tournament to see who was the best tag team in the world, eight countries were represented with one team each. USA's team was the Steiner Brothers, and wouldn't you know it Team USA won 3 matches and the tournament, from then on in I was a wrestling fan.

4. Cactus Jack: He was the first bad guy that I every wanted to see win matches. I liked him for about the same reason I liked Pillman, Jack could take a beating and still fight you tooth and nail... not to mention I always loved to go "BANG! BANG!"

5. "The Lionheart" Chris Jericho: Jericho was the man that brought me into the present/future of wrestling. Until this time I was a fan of the big personalities and the old school wrestling values that existed in wrestling... Then Jericho came and blew away anything I ever saw in and out of the ring. Jericho was doing things in the ring that made me gasp, and out that made me laugh. He was and is the new wave, he is what every wrestler should be.

Hulk Hogan

I first saw him at Wrestlemania 9, i think he was the sole reason i went and looked for and still am a fan of wrestling classics,

Bret Hart,

My first modern day favorite, and still one of my favorites ever, greate skill, greate matches

The rock/austin/foley

i put thses three together because they were all together in the attiude era, and thats the best time ive ever had as a wrestling, fan, watching raw on a friday night became a tradition, kept me in wrestling when i was getting older, and was thinking of turning away, by making it cool and adult to watch

This is a great and positive topic.

1.Savage- I love this guy gimmick. He was the number one guy too me in the 80's and early 90's. His matches kick asses and his promos. Plus, all his fueds ended with great matches,Steamboat,Hogan,Warrior, and Flair.

2.Hogan-I like Hogan in the 80's and early 90's but I LOVE HOGAN as the leader of NWO. He was so damn cool and bad. Everybody he clash with in WCW look important and got a good pop because Hogan was that damn good as a heel.

3.Scott Hall/Razor Ramon, I love him as both. The guy is probably the coolest wrestler ever. His matches in WWE were great. His promos especially the NWO skits is some of the greatest work ever. The Razor Edge was an awesome move.

4.Austin- what can I say about the guy. He whip everybody ass. The STUNNER is the best move ever. His matches from 1996-2001,were entertaining and he had alot of classic one's too. I can go deep about Austin, but that would take all day to type.

5.The Rock-THE GREAT ONE, he is just like Austin but more exciting and less tough. Everything is just great about him.

Only five, Vince Jr.,Russo,HHH,Sting,Bret,HBK,Taker, and Foley gets props from me as well. Everybody else is just supporting actors.

I was also a HUGE Ahmed Johnson fan, too bad he did'nt last long.

I can't really say 5 guys, but I can name 5 matches.

1. Hulk Hogan/Andre the Giant (Saturday Night's Main Event): This was the match that had Earl Hebner screwing Hogan out of the match, as he was paid off by DiBiase. He was impersonating his brother Dan (?) in the match. Strange, Earl has a history of Screwing over guys, doesn't he? Anyway, I remember beating up my dad who was watching with me. I was hooked ever since.

2. Bret Hart/Mr. Perfect (Summerslam '91): This was the match that got me out of the Hogan era for good. Two guys who put on a technical masterpiece, well worked out psychology wise and everything. The fact that Curt was working with a seriously injured back that would put him out over a year only furthers how special this contest was.

3. Dean Malenko/Eddie Guerrero (ECW, can't remember the date): This was during a time when I thought Technical Wrestling was dead, these guys came along and re-wrote the book. They were doing things I had never seen before, and I was introduced to a new style. Been Dean and Eddie marks ever since.

4. '93 Royal Rumble. This was Ric Flair's finest moment in the WWF. Before this, no one had ever started in the first 5 and went all the way. Gorilla put this fact over for much of the contest, and Flair just stayed in there. At this point, Flair was probably one of 2 or 3 people in the company who could have went that long. It was amazing, and it's still one of my favorite Flair moments. WWF Fans, most probably still caught up in the Hogan era, had never seen someone go that long for quite a while, if at all. Hogan never went an hour in a match, if memory serves. Hogan/Flair should have been that Wrestlemania's Main Event, End of Story.

5. Kurt Angle/Chris Benoit (Royal Rumble '03): Seriously, this match was the 21st Century's Steamboat/Savage or Hart/Perfect. They had worked together before, but this could well be comparable to the "Greatest Match" between Flair and Steamboat.

5.) Rob Van Dam- I had actually been watching wrestling for some time when I came across this guy in ECW. He didn't look like anything I hadn't seen before when I first saw him but then I actually got to see him work a match...I was fucking blown away. Never in my life had I seen somebody take so many risks and use so much acrobatics in the ring. There was never a match that he was in that I didn't think to myself "HOLY SHIT!". Not only did he take risks others wouldn't take, but he took those risks with a style that nobody in ECW (or any other American federation for that matter) had. He also had a way of making ordinary moves looking godly... Anybody could hit somebody in the head with a folding chair but can everybody toss that same chair into the air and jump-kick it into his opponents' face? Awesome wrestler that had awesome matches with Jerry Lynn in ECW....

4.) The Undertaker- UT was one of the first wrestlers I ever really got into. I remeber I was a kid and I'd turn on wrestling just so I could see who the man would completely destroy next. I remember marking out when he'd tombstone huge guys like Sid and Vader and make them looking like they were absolutely nothing. Granted, he isn't one of the greatest in'ring wrestlers that has ever lived, but he certainly has one of the best looks and one of the best characters in wrestling history IMHO. Nothing was greater than watching Taker just squash people for the hell of it, I never got tired of it.

3.) Raven- In my opinion, Raven is in a league of his own. The Raven character is by far the most deep and 3-dimensional character ever seen in the sport of prefessional wrestling. Raven, by showing us every dimension of himself almost makes us ask questions about ourselves. We not only get to see how Raven deals with his emotions in the ring, but we get to see his outlook on life in general. To me, Raven is the best it will ever get as far as character aspects go.

2.) Shawn Michaels- Whether you like him or hate him, he is one of the greatest professional wrestlers ever. He is the perfect blend of athletic ability, flexibility, entertainment, and sex appeal. Some of the greatest matches ever have included HBK. One of my favorite matches of all time has to be the Iron Man Match with Hart @ Wrestlemania 12. Shawn is the mang.

1.) Chris Jericho- IMO, he's one of the best heels this industry has ever seen. He manages to do what many great heels can't seem to do; he makes you hate him but at the same time he makes you want to watch as much of him as you possibly can. His WCW and early WWE antics are IMO some of the best heel moments ever in the sport of Professional wrestling. Not only does he have a knack for the mic, but superior comical timing as well. I remember laughing my ass off back in the WCW days when he'd collect a souveneire from every wrestler he's beaten and sooner or later he was carrying about 18 items to the ring and he could barely even carry them anymore. Also, when wrestlers would tap out to the liontamer he'd keep it on for an extra 5 or 6 seconds after the match and then apologize to the referee afterwards. His sense of humor is just classic and timeless.
