visually pleasing movies
lately i've been really noticing the cinematography in films. lighting, camerawork, and overall presentation of vision. i've been generally interested in the artistics of film-making for the past six months or so, and i'm getting more and more into it as i go along.
i'd like to make a thread for movies that may or may not be great in terms of entertainment value, but are a visual spectacle. movies that don't get much recognition for their beautiful cinematography. stuff like stanley kubrick's barry lyndon, orson welles' a touch of evil [watched yesterday; it's apparently the last movie to succumb to the "film noir" style of the 40's and 50's]. days of heaven is very interestingly done and has great shot after great shot. i think gladiator has some excellent camerawork, and anything with alfred hitchcock is superbly directed. and of couse, the entire lord of the rings trilogy is inconceivably great. any artistic favorites? |

Yeah Hero is pretty sexy looking despite the fact that it is terrible.
Few others: City of God A Clockwork Orange Dolls Mulholland Dr. Run Lola Run Amelie is actually shot real amazing, even though I don't like the movie. Same with Requiem for a Dream. |

Oldboy.
It has some pretty neat cinematography and one AMAZING fight scene which is just goes on without any cuts for a fairly lengthy amount of time. |

I could not stand Mulholland Dr. at all. I don't know why. I am a fan of Lynch, I got the movie but I just hated it. Oldboy is a good movie, so good I think I'll watch it now.

Punch-Drunk Love.
I'm not 100% on what you're going for but it was really really really well made and "visually pleasing." |

How could I forget:
The Thin Red Line. Beautiful film. Then again, it's Terrence Malick, what'd you expect? Hugely underrated film as well. |
