Rock's contract situation :'(
from http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/58...html?fromint=1
WWE is now talking about producing their own movies, but The Rock says his days of donning those tights are in the past. "No. They've been wanted for a long time to get into the movie business and, I'm not too sure, I think like low budget movies, a lot of them straight to video. I think they wanted to and were looking for different distributors. No, my contract is actually up with them, it was up last year, so I'm done…" If this is true, then you suck Rock Top 5 Favourite wrestlers: 1. Carlito Cool 2. Chris Benoit 3. Randy Orton 4. Christian 5. Kurt Angle |

Source - http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/374/374815p1.html The Rock Is Johnny Bravo? Warner Bros. is eyeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for their live-action Johnny Bravo flick. October 18, 2002 - It's true... Warner Bros. has purchased the movie rights to the Cartoon Network series Johnny Bravo. And, yes, according to Variety, the studio is hoping to sign The Rock for the title role. Johnny Bravo, one of Cartoon Network's signature shows, was created by Van Partible. The show follows the exploits of vain, muscle-bound ladies man Johnny Bravo. He loves his mama, but loves himself more. Unfortunately, the girls aren't as fond of Johnny as he thinks. His brawny buffoonery usually makes him his own worst enemy. The trade reports that Neal Moritz and Marty Adelstein will produce for via their Original Film banner. Adelstein said, "When the Rock mentioned to Neal (Moritz) and myself he was a big fan of Johnny Bravo and thought it was a great idea for a movie, we thought it was a natural fit and potentially a great role for him to play, so we went aggressively after the property." I've heard a few people scoffing at this news already. I did too, at first, but the more I think about it the more I like it. The Rock doesn't have Johnny's trademark blonde hair, but he definitely has the charisma to make this a fun and entertaining adaptation. Keep it right here for the latest! -- Brian Linder If it's live action then this movie gonna suck! |

It was obvious from the beginning.
The Rock really never had any dreams, except making money. Wherever it is he can do that is where he'll be at. To quote him, "it doesn't matter" how many movies or shows, etc. that he does - he is ALWAYS going to be known as wrestler turned actor, or just former wrestler; that's the way the media works. It'll always come up. |

The Critics are already proclaiming him the next "Great" Action star and I think his movie career will last longer then you think.

Also, critics AREN'T psychics, as someone else noted. Critics loved the record Schizophonic, a record that was so poorly received by fans it went out of print the same year it was released. Honestly, to nick a line from the Rock, "It doesn't matter what the critics say!" Unless the fans also concur. The Rock's done some decent movies, and I'm not going to pan him, but people haven't been overwhelmed. Maybe he'll have a breakway role or two that really sets him up as the next action star, but nothing he's done so far really puts him in that league. Honestly, I hope he succeeds. I've liked his action roles. He's not the world's greatest actor, but who fucking cares? Meanwhile, who can blame him for not wanting to do B-Movie WWE Flims movies? |

As for the movies he's made, i saw the scorpion king and it was nothing special, there was another one i saw which i can't remember the name of, which wasnt brilliant either. I can't get into his movies cos i feel like i'm just watching the same character ive seen in the WWE for so long. |

They're not horribly inspired movies. Though I did like the Rundown. Not a great movie, but good. I think the Rock has the chops, but he'll never get there as long as he's in these "ho hum" roles and the critics continue to cream themselves over him, while fans don't really pack in the theaters. However, while Hollywood "pushes" him as the next action star, he'll always have roles, whether or not they are roles that are interesting. |

Critics are good at what they do - criticizing movies. They aren't psychics.
Rock has yet to have a truly "great" movie to fullfill this prophecy of becoming the next "great action star." The Scorpion King was mediocre at best, Rundown was good at points but pretty mediocre as well, and I didn't see Walking Tall but I heard the same about that movie - okay, but not great. I suppose we'll see how things turn out, but I still hold to my belief that his movie career is going to flounder. |

Hey, as long as the Rock is out doing something to entertain the fans. But as I mentioned about other superstars that leave: they'll be back, they always come back.
Rock is no exception, and if he ever needs a plug, he knows where he can go and get it out... TPWW! ......I mean, WWE. |

I believe Scorpion King did better than most people thought.
The other two movies didn't have much going for them to really judge Rock's future in Hollywood. I think his part in Be Cool will actually do good things for his career. Because you might get some people who wouldn't go see the type of movie that Rock will star in see him in this and actually like him. The other thing is that he still has a laundry list of movies that he's aalready agreed to do and/or "rumoured" to do, so obviously Hollywood still thinks he has some value. |

well the Rock said it best the MOnday night after WM XIX.
"The Rock has done it all." He's 7 time world champ. former IC champ. I think even a tag champ. He has done it all. There is nothin left for him to do in the WWE. Ya know he, just like others, have dreams. Some, like Brock, didn't do so well. Rock on the otherhand has had some success. Give the man his props. Give credit where credit is due. He has done quite a bit for the WWE. He has even helped elevate some guys. So just because he decides to go another route is no reason to start dissin him. He is and shall always be The Rock. Former WWE champion. |

Let's look at what would happen if the Rock were still lin WWE, wrestling every week...
Oh, wait, he'd be TRIPLE H. You see, the Rock is arguably the BIGGEST star in the WWE, period. They can't just have him wrestling Viscera on-screen - no, he'd have to have the BEST fueds, the BIGGEST opponents, etc. Not because of his ego - because that's what sells. Otherwise, you'd just piss off the millions...and millions of the Rock's fans. That means, every main event, it would be Rock vs. X for the title. Every RAW or Smackdown (depending on his brand) PPV, he would be headlining. He'd become everything the people on this board continuously complain about - a successful wrestler that "hogs the light" from the newer stars. And it's not like he's the only one looking to get out of wrestling and into movies - he's just the most successful. Recall that Trips was in Blade 3 and will star in the new Connan the Barbarian movie. Edge was in Highlander - Endgame. Andre the Giant was a major player in The Princess' Bride, and had he lived longer, would undoubtedly have had the opportunity for a successful movie career. Goldberg starred in Universal Soldier, and had it not flopped, would have undoubtedly quit wrestling to pursue movies (as he stated in interviews). Jesse Ventura quit and did a HUGE number of movies, far more than Rock to date, including PREDATOR and Major League 2. Hell, Kevin Nash was SUPER SHREDDER in TMNT2. Now, you say "well, they all came back to wrestling." But they HAD too (except for maybe Andre, who was dying anyway). They came back, possibly because they wanted too, but definitely because their movies didn't do so hot. The ones with take-off careers in movies (Jesse Ventura, Hulk Hogan, Roddy Piper (B-movies, but loads of them)) left wrestling and pursued movies. There are several reasons - they can appeal to their fanbase in a profession potentially 100 times more profitable than wrestling. The potential for injury is far less, their careers in movies can last far longer, and they can spend more time with family. Now, ask yourself something. I assume you all work at a job that you like - if not, pretend you did. Now, say someone came to you and said - "I have a job doing that uses the same basic skills you possess - and I'm willing to pay you 10 times what you're currently making, just to start out. By the way, I'll also cut the number of months you work from 12 to about 3-5, and slash the hours you work by 1/2." Would you take the new job, which you may or may not like, or take the new job with less hours, less stress, and more pay? If you say you'd keep the first job, I think you're lying to yourself to try to prove some mundane point. |

Filmforce.ign.com has an interview up from The Rock.
In early January, we posted a story about contract problems between The Rock and WWE. Here is what he has to say about that: "No. They've been wanted for a long time to get into the movie business and, I'm not too sure, I think like low budget movies, a lot of them straight to video. I think they wanted to and were looking for different distributors. No, my contract is actually up with them, it was up last year, so I'm done…" That pretty much confirms what we posted. There are contract issues and they will likely be resolved, but not anytime soon. ![]() |
