Angry What's wrong with WWE today? Any opinions?

Well first thing that comes to mind is the saddest bunch of tag teams in WWE today. When is WWE gonna stop throwing all these singles wrestlers together to try and form some super tag-team. How bout the disrespect the IC title gets? I mean cmon Benjamin vs. Snitsky for 3 STRAIGHT WEEKS! Also I wonder if WWE regrets letting go of Jacqueline, Jazz, Gail Kim, and Nidia, given the fact that the belt Trish keeps coming out to the ring with is a joke. Other than Victoria and Molly Holly, seems like Trish has to deal with Christy Hemme which I have a bad feeling that those 2 might hook up at Mania.

Despite there being a million threads like this in the past, and the rather irritating manner of Mr. Srnrew (how exactly do you pronounce that, anyway?) I'll at least answer the question he proposed.

1) Nepotism and Favoritism throughout the entire Upper Tier: It's nothing new for a promoter to push his family and friends over the other people, but it's still almost always horrible for business. Just look at how much good Greg Gagne, David Sammartino, Erik Watts, Jeff Jarrett, and just about all of the Von Erichs besides Kerry were for their respective companies. Just look at how WCW went from a multi-million dollar worldwide federation to absolutely nothing due to the croneyism of guys like Hogan and Bischoff. And WWE is no different. That's why Paul Heyman is off the writing team in favor of Vince's daughter, and why his son-in-law will hold the World Heavyweight Championship until the day he dies (or WWE goes out of business)

2) Ridiculous Mis-Management of Talent: I could go on for weeks about specific instances, but I think I can sum it up in just one sentence: WWE is the only place in the world that would willingly job Rey Mysterio Jr. out to A-Train.

3) Inept Creative Team: See above.

4) Inability to Recover and Deal with Loss of Fanbase: It's fairly obvious that wrestling is nowhere near as popular as it is in its heyday. And while the downward spiral it had been on has leveled out a bit, and it may be just only a matter of time till Vince finds his next Golden Boy and starts making billions again, it's still a far cry from the massive numbers WWE used to pull in.

Those fans who are left, even the marks, are greatly comprised of folks who have been watching for a long time, and are familiar with the usual patterns. Needless to say, a lot of these fans (especially the dreaded IWC) have grown jaded and overly critical. So how does the company react? By lashing out against their critics, the guys who pay $40 (sometimes $80) a month to watch their PPVs, buy their merchandise, and make Vince his money. Every time one of WWE's major players gets on, he has to make sure that we all know the company doesn't like us, and that our opinions aren't welcome or valuable. WWE may very well be the only company in the world that goes out of its way to verbally abuse its own customers.

When you watch wrestling, the key is not to think about everything that's wrong with it all the time; but how those things can be fixed, and sharing those creative ideas with other posters.

You sir (srnrew), neglected the latter part and are now being flamed.

I wholeheartedly agree. Despite its rather massive flaws, WWE can still boast that they have the most talented roster anywhere in the world, not to mention the three most brilliant minds in wrestling history (Vince, Bisch, and Heyman [even though two of them don't get any booking]) And despite the crazy spot-filled spectaculars that TNA puts on, despite the bloody and gruesome moments from ECW, when I think of the greatest moments in wrestling history, 9 times out of 10 I think of stuff that happened on a WWF show. I personally think Vince McMahon, in spite of his inflated ego and bad booking decisions, is a business mastermind, and until the day Titan Towers close their doors forever, I will still watch WWE shows.

That being said, I still don't appreciate it when guys like Triple H and JBL hand me a turd and JR tells me it's chocolate. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

Exactly. Back in the 80's when wrestling was restricted to territories (WWF in the Northeast, WCW in the Southeast, AWA in the Midwest), Vince McMahon was the first man to overstep those territories and advertise in other regions despite all the heat he got.

Vince also was the first to take talent from other promotions. Hulk Hogan, who was an AWA worker is a prime example. since AWA didn't know how to market Hogan, McMahon capitalized on him, and he became the icon of wrestling and put WWF on the global market. Other examples of that throughout the years are Andre the Giant, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Steve Austin (though it took a couple tries), Mick Foley, Chris Jericho, and yes even HHH.

It's easy to think about everything that's wrong with WWE, and to blame Vince. But look back to when wrestling wasn't even on TV, and you realize that it wouldn't even be mainstream today without his business tactics.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Nowhere Man again.
