Penn hams it up bigtime in I Am Sam. It's a grotesque piece of heart string tugging shit.

U-Turn is probably my favourite Sean Penn film, but he does have some great support in it. Haven't seen Mystic River (loved the book) or 21 Grams.

The Thin Red Line is ok too, but not as good as everyone said it was at the time.
