"Insider" terms...
Brought up in the WM thread last night. We all know about Flair wigging out over people not in the biz using "face and heel" comments because they're insider terms.

But how many terms are actually inside? most of the major terms I can name are or used to be common place.

Babyface/Heel: Both were used frequently in movies @ 50 years ago, so it's hardly something that was an insider term. Changing it to "face" is sorta, but that's cutting it (Especially since "face" still got used)

Angle: Common enough to use in roughly the same sense as is used to preference wrestling angles. Another term you can find spread all over clichéd hollywood movies.

Gimmick: See above. The use that we tend to think of originated with showbiz, possibly vaudeville, and referred to a person's routine or act.

Job/jobber/jobbed: This one I don't know of any other origin for.

Mark: It's carny slang, but goes back centuries. "Smart" only goes back as far as Carny slang.

Okay, what other terms can you think of?

Botched comes from middle English, to "bodge." Bodging is making something of poor quality. Used to refer to poorly crafted chairs. There's a full circle for you.

Anyhow, to "botch" has been around for quite a while. So much so that botch is used in the military and in roleplaying games. Come on, if both nerds AND soldiers are using it...

Others mentioned: Bump.

Bump refers to impact, and is no more an "insider" term in its usage than a "bumper" is. While called a "fender" and other names in other cultures, the timeline for use of "bump" in terms of an impact goes back.

I thought of "rub," in response to that. Since it's slang my father uses in similar context (He once got a "rub" from a famous blues musician), I'm hesitant to say it's insider. My dad's never watched wrestling, and never been a fan. While 'Net savvy, he's hardly the "Smark" type.

Blade: I think I have to consign this to the insider terms.

Spot: In this case, I can't think of a single thing besides the phrase "pick your spots" that comes close. Sicne not many people seem to know this phrase (Correct me if I'm wrong), I'm leaning to inside.
