Nicky Butt Transfer Listed

--------------------------------------------------------

NICKY BUTT is up for sale after his transfer request was accepted by Manchester United.

Boss Alex Ferguson will allow the England midfielder to leave for £5million after a long chat yesterday.

Fergie does not want Butt to go — but he cannot guarantee him first-team football at Old Trafford.

Tottenham, Everton and Birmingham are ready to bid for a player who made his United debut 12 years ago.

Ferguson told SunSport: “Nicky Butt has asked to leave, it is a very sad situation.

“Nicky has given Manchester United great service but he wants to play first-team football.

“With Phil Neville, and the emergence of Darren Fletcher and Kleberson, it has made it difficult for Nicky to get in the first team so he has asked to leave.”

Butt, 29 this month, has this season and another two years left on his contract but he has fallen down the pecking order this season and started only 11 of the club’s 31 games.

Butt will feel his place in the England squad for Euro 2004 is in jeopardy if he does not get a move and start playing regular first-team football again.

The midfielder’s departure will end a lifelong love affair with his local club, who he signed for on trainee forms way back in July 1991.

He made his senior debut against Oldham in November 1992 and has gone on to make 372 appearances for the club scoring 26 goals.

Only Ryan Giggs (571 appearances), Gary Neville (419), Roy Keane (417) and Paul Scholes (394) in the present squad have made more.

Butt is the second of Ferguson’s generation of youth players to head for the exit door as he sets about creating a new era.

The manager set the process in motion when he allowed David Beckham to join Real Madrid for £25m in the summer.

---------------------------------------------------

Can see every premiership team outside the top three with 5 million to spend expressing a interest. Butt is a fantastic player and why the likes of Kleberson, Fletcher and Djemba-Djemba are infront of him amazes me. Would love Villa to sign him cause hes the kinda player who'd sort our midfield out but 5 million is out of our price range I think. Can see him going to Newcastle or Boro

He's always the guy who I never think of when I think of all the players that started out as youngsters at united, i'm not really surprised that he wants to leave.

I'd be quite happy to see him come to Newcastle.

Yeah, I remember Butt because before I knew a lot about soccer his name would appear a lot in video games and such. I was surprised when I found out he was on the world cup squad because when they show United games over here I barely saw him play. So yeah I think its sad to see him go but he is a good enough player to do good things somewhere else.

Can't say i'm surprised at the decision,if he's an England regular for the most part then he shouldn't be expected to stay behind Phil Neville, despite Neville playing well this season.

I remember about a month ago he was linked with us but that'll never happen.I'd be pritty mad if he goes Spurs after they just got Michael Brown, unless they loan him or something.

It's easy really. Fletcher is only 19 and is absolute quality and has been groomed for a first team spot for 4 years now. Kleberson, like Fletcher, plays in 2 positions and is younger. That's why they are ahead of Butt. I don't want him to go either but it's evolution time. Same reason Beckham had to go. Djemba-Djemba certainly isn't ahead of Butt in the United team but he is younger and can afford to wait for an chance while Butt can't.

Good luck to him. Any club who gets him is going to get a bargain!

If you mean Kleberson plays wide right I hope the Newcastle game was a one-off performance

And I've never seen Fletcher play anywhere except wide-right (obviously this could be because of people being ahead of him in other positions) - I'm assuming you mean he plays central as well?

Nicky Butt's has always been one of the most underrated players in England. His ability is so good that he could walk into nearly every other team in the country. His performances in the World Cup were quality. To take over Steven Gerrard's position and to play even better than he has is a difficult task for any player. He's done it all at Man Utd. so lets hope he enjoys the next few years in the top flight elsewhere

Yeah Fletcher plays central too. I didn't want Kleberson in the first place and it was my choice between him and Butt, Kleb would be on a plane back to Brazil quicker than you can say "Pele needs viagra".
