TNA Impact gets no fan reation
So im sitting there today watching impact and they are making all these announcements.
The main event will be a lethal lockdown match....(no crowd reaction) Winner of Styles Vs Abyss gets Heavyweight Title Shot at Hard Justice (No reaction) Then the biggest announcement which should of gotten a reaction was that all the matches at the upcoming Lock Down ppv are gonna be in the cage. (Still No Fan Reaction) The cage announcement is one big ass announcement and I know WWE fans would go crazy...hell when the indy fed by me made the announcement that they were gonna do it the crowd went crazy. But the TNA fans were acting like a member of the crowd just died. Sadly I feel that this is why Impact is so boring lately. If the crowd was more like it was at the ppvs perhaps the show might be pretty good. But there not and thus Impact isnt the great to watch anymore |

Can't wait to see the reaction they get at the PPV when they are on their 5th cage match of the night. Seriously, I really think we might actually see some people sleeping in the crowd. Literally

TNA crowds are probably majority smarks. So they know that every match in a cage is a terrible idea so they won't cheer it.
Mind you this is speculation on my part |

I mean sure having one cage match would have been awesome. two would be aight but 6 or 7 is outright retarded. I mean how many different things can you do in a cage match? In one night? TNA really just shot themselves in the foot with this.
There was a time when Hell in a cell was done so much that noone really cared anymore. then it became like once a year and so when it came it was like "This is gonna be good." If there was a PPV that was nothing but Hell in a Cell matches then talk about piss breaks. Man this is one of those breaks when you go take a crap for 30 minutes. I woulda been surprised if there woulda been any sort of reaction |

Now come on people, not just any promotion could kill a gimmick match quite as efficiently as they are going to. It takes a special company to do that.

I don't watch TNA, but I remember they had a PPV a while back that sounded like it was actually good. Don't remember which one it was, but it involved that Alpha male guy (or whoever he is) fighting for the title.
But if Dusty Rhodes is their booker, I have to ask...does every show end with a Dusty finish or has he let that stuff go behind him? |

But don't worry, we'll still have Tenay and West jerking off about it midway through the sixth or seventh match telling us how revolutionary and great TNA is, as Jarrett pins someone else.

If you go to Universal studios you get free admittance into the Impact tapings apparently. Half those fans are probably tourists who don't like wrestling probably.

I watched some of it. I'll be sure to fast forward through the show again to catch a glimpse of some of the action. At least Kid Kash and Michael Shane could deliver somethin

As long as Jarrett holds the title and the TNA name, it's royally fucked over to hell and back.
It's like Triple H and Steph porked one night backstage and made Jeff Jarrett. Has to be the explination for Jarrett never being able to get over himself. |

I could see a possibility for TNA to succeed but it would be doing something they're not likely to do.
If they brought in Kanyon(comes out of retirement), pick up Rhyno, get Sean O'Haire and team them up with Raven to form some kind of new Raven's Flock(dream stable)... get Raven to pick up the TNA title while O'Haire and Kanyon win the tag titles, then have Rhyno as the beast but eventually build up a feud between Rhyno and Raven. Or even a Raven/Kanyon feud would work. That's just a basic idea, but it would be sweet and would probably bring in some ECW fans as well also add Ultimo Dragon to the X-divsion and carry the title for awhile. AJ Styles could eventually move up into the World Title hunt later on as well. I don't watch TNA so I don't really know what's going on, but they could also get Jeff Jarret, Billy Gunn, X-Pac and BG James to gather as another lead stable to counteract Raven but Raven eventually relinquishes JJ of the title, with the help of Sean O'Haire, Kanyon and Rhyno helping even out the numbers. Something I thought of that I would like to see happen. |

AJ Styles, the #1 face in the company, has been taking second or third seat to over the hill veterans. Why the title isn't around his waist is beyond me.

I stated in a different thread that TNA should strive to become a more credible WRESTLING company, to offset the "entertainment" of WWE. I think TNA had a brilliant concept with the Ultimate X match but there has already been about 6 of them(and they pretty much involoved the same people). I know WWE did something similar to this w/ the TLC matches but they were spread out over the course of 2 years not 14 months.
The other big problem I have with TNA is the amount of interfernce in matches- main events and undercard matches alike. I actually bought the last PPV(just to see the 4 Man Ultimate X Gauntlet Match, which was pretty good) and there was interfernce in over half the matches. With that much interference it's hard to get either faces or heels over as legitimate contenders. That's why I've become an RoH mark over teh last year. Every wrestler in the company is presented as a legit competitor and with the whole Code of Honor, I don't have to worry about interference in every other match. |

ah well hopefully TNA will realise that its beginning to suck and do something about the booking - and stop all these bollocks backstage bits that have dusty rhodes and trinity and tracy. the next PPV is gonna be a train wreck....

I wasn't trying to say that TNA should become a pure wrestling company where all the wrestlers wear black tights. My point is that TNA of 2005, is looking alot like WCW of 2000 and that is not a good thing. TNA needs a concept that it can grab hold of and base the company. ECW was "hardcore", RoH is "pure wrestling", the WWE is "the juggernaut of sports-entertainment", for a period of time WCW was " the
promotion" when the nWo first started. TNA needs to somehow differentiate itself from its competition especially WWE. When I talked about RoH, I wasn't trying to say that TNA should emulate RoH, i was just pointing out my preference of wrestling. TNA SHOULD NOT go down the road of RoH, because, like you said, marks want more than just wrestling. The RoH concept only works on a small scale. For TNA to be successful in a cable TV market, they need to make themselves unique. The 6-sided ring is a decent start, overusing gimmick matches is not.

Gotta love ROH though, no where else would you hear a crowd chant "go get help" to a wrestler (Jeff Hardy).

It might help if the tourists knew some of the wrestlers, I'm willing to bet that only a handful that turn up have ever seen anything TNA related and there's only a few faces that average "I used to watch wrestling when it was cool" person would recognise.

Still, more wrestling and less drama won't produce ratings. People want to see a program b/c of its entertainment value mostly. Smcakdown! is more wrestling themed than Raw, and look where it's at. ECW was the only promotion that perfectly blended the two....unfortunately, they didn't have the time slot nor money to produce a great program.
To sum it all up, you need to have enterainment/soap opera to keep the fans watching. If not, marks will stop. |

ECW didn't perfectly blend entertainment and wrestling b/c they were never able to cross over into the main stream of things. To do so they would have had to water down their product. They did produce a great program by foregoing the snazzy pyro and entrances and focusing the entertainment on the rebellious nature of the wrestling and promos.

^I get the same feeling. Never mind whether we are seieng the beginning of the end for wrestling or not, this is the beginning of the end for TNA.
The reason why there is no crowd reaction is because 1) its too predicteble and 2) people like dusty rhodes and Jeff Jarrett are fucking the company over and have been right from the start, its only just become even more blatantly obvious than it was before. And 3) Stupid decisions like having every match be a cage match on the PPV as everyone has already mentioned is a ridiculous idea. |

I remember watching the relaunch of WCW just before it went belly up and saying, "I hope this'll be good."
Then I saw Jeff Jarrett do his shtick and I said "Ah crap." |

Not exactly. They were just ahead of their time, if you ask me. ECW has more fans at this very moment than they ever did while they were alive. That has to say something about their product. |
