How RAW could achieve 7.0 ratings (without Batista, Triple H, and Orton)
I've been thinking more and more about the lottery draft coming up, and I've had some realistic.....and not so realistic thoughts about what could happen. I think it's safe to say that this would fall in the latter category. :-).

Let's pretend that the following happened:

To Smackdown
-Triple H
-Dave Batista
-Randy Orton
-Trish Stratus
-Lita
-Christy Hemme

To RAW
-Kurt Angle
-Eddie Guerrero
-Rey Mysterio
-Charlie Hass
-Billy Kidman
-Paul London


So basically - Smackdown would have almost all of the women in the company (and they could have somewhat of a women's divison), why RAW would now have the Cruiserweight division (along with Kidman and London, there would be Taijiri and Hurricane).


Smackdown would basically be MARK city. John Cena, JBL, Big Show, Dave Batista, Randy Orton, Triple H, Booker T, Carlitto Carribbean Cool, Undertaker, Dudleys, and RVD would be great for marks. Most marks would love the potential rivalry between Cena/Batista or Cena/Orton, etc. Since most of the women would be on Smackdown, they could actually have a division (not just revolving around Trish and Lita).

Brock Lesnar (if he comes back) could also be a part of Smackdown. Lesnar, Orton, Cena, and Batista on the same show would make things VERY VERY interesting for marks.


RAW on the other hand, could become a great place for quality wrestling. Angle, Guerrero, HBK, Benoit, Benjamin, Jericho, Hass, Edge, Christian, Davari, Mysterio, London, etc.


In short - RAW would cater towards the smarks, while Smackdown could cater towards the marks.


Since Smackdown would have 95% of the women in the company, they could have more of the "soap opera" type stuff.

RAW on the other hand, could be the perfect place to integrate the "cruisers" with the main-eventers. Guys like London, Kidman, and Mysterio would mesh well with Edge, HBK, Christian, Jericho, Benoit, etc.


I think a set-up like this would really give both shows a more DISTINCTIVE identity (something that the roster arguably doesn't have right now).

-Smackdown would be a haven for marks
-RAW would be a haven for smarks.

Guys like Rock, Foley, etc. can appear on Smackdown when given the opportunity.


RAW's core
-Kane (RAW should have atleast one "big man")
-HBK
-Angle
-Benoit
-Jericho
-Guerrero
-Mysterio
-Benjamin
-Edge
-Christian
-Davari
-Hussan
-Hass
-London
-Kidman
-etc.

Smackdown
-Cena

-Batista
-Orton
-Lesnar (if he comes back)
-Undertaker
-Booker T
-Big Show

-Carlitto Carribbean Cool
-Trish Stratus
-Torrie Wilson
-Stacy Kiebler


I dunno - This will never happen, but I think a set-up like this would totally own. The more I think about it, the more I believe that *BOTH* Raw and Smackdown would benefit GREATLY.

I would think SD's ratings would jump and RAW's would sink.

The fan who likes wrestling, as in what happens in the ring, will never be enough to get a 7 rating. The reason why WWE used to get close to those numbers was because they were able to offer enough good wrestling to keep the hardcore fans happy, but also other stuff to draw the casual fan (Hulkamania, the NWO, Austin, Rock, etc).

IF you look at Batista, he's doing really strong numbers on RAW, and he's no gem in the ring. Just for whatever reason (he was actually booked properly) the fans are taking to him.

I dont think a bunch of really great in-ring wrestling matches will ever do huge business, if it did, ECW would still be in business, heck so would WCW. Its not that simple.

You don't think a lot of other people are thinking of ways to get Raw a 7.0 rating?

Also, your idea for Raw would make the ratings sink to all time new lows! Which mark would ever want to watch a show purely on wrestling? If that were the case, SD! (although a shitty example) would grab extremely high ratings!

First off, who says it would ONLY be about wrestling?

Jericho, Angle, and Guerrero are way the fuck over with the fans. Jericho and Guerrero, when pushed right, are arguably the two most popular superstars in the entire WWE.


Wrestling would be the main focal point on RAW, but its not like it would be devoid of intriguing characters, sports-entertainment, etc.

A guy like London and Taijiri for instance, would have a much easier times working with the likes of Jericho, Christian, Eddie, etc., as opposed to what we see now on Smackdown. What we see right now, is cruisers not being really able to work with anyone else.....due to the complete contrast in styles.

I don't know why you'd equate "soap Opera" with women.

Most of the "soap opera" stuff on Raw is oriented towards guys, and drives the whole genre of wrestling. Do you really think women want to see catfights? Arguments that border on softcore porn foreplay?

Conversely, Most people on this board seem to prefer Raw, with the deciding factor being the storylines. Very soapish quite often. As others have said, why take that away when trying to bolster ratings?

Also, why put people like Lesnar, whose primary talents are their ring abilities, on the "Soap Opera" show?

Right. But you're running the company the way most people run their fantasy baseball teams. I think that muhc change with that many big names all at once would alienate a lot of the viewers. Raw really hasn't been that bad recently and Smackdown needs some new starpower. But mainly both shows just need better writing.

You're idea is basically a total overhaul of the entire company. Even if its mildly entertaining, its in no way realistic.

Other than that, everything else I said was spot on.



RAW would be a heaven for wrestling. The sports-entertainment aspect would still be there, along with the tremendous wrestling. Furthermore, guys like London and Kidman (and other CW's) would have a much greater chance of getting over, since their wrestling styles would be far easier to integrate with the likes of Christian, Jericho, HBK, etc. Cruisers could wrestle everyone.....not just fellow cruisers.


Smackdown would see numerous dream match-ups.

First off....

-RAW has NOT been good the past few weeks. In my opinion (and anyone with half a brain for that matter), it's been quite pitiful. Smackdown has actually been better than RAW of late.

Secondly....

-Smackdown needs a LOT of star power. Smackdown has very limited depth, but they've done a decent job this last little while. Still they need major help.


Thirdly

-Guys like Benoit and Jericho deserve to be main-eventers. I don't care what any one of you faggots think. The very fact that Benoit and Jericho are being pissed away in the mid-cards, only proves that the WWE needs a huge overhaul. In my scenerio, Benoit and Jericho would be main-eventers.....not mid-carders.

Yeah sure, it's unrealistic. That's the only criticism that can be said here.

Ok, so without saying how an all smart mark based audience can draw a 7.0 rating for raw when basically the only people watching wrestling now are smart marks and the ratings rarely go over the 4.0 range, how am I supposed to believe that this plan is "perfect"?
