Best year for music?

I'd say 1984.

So many huge hits, bands.

Such a diverse year all the way around.

Well 92 (I think) with the whole "Grunge" thing.

For me, it was 96. Incredible year. Bush, Oasis, Smashing Pumpkins, Third Eye Blind, Wall Flowers, Jewel, Gin Blossoms, Goo Goo Dolls, No Doubt, Presidents of USA, Sou Asylum, Collective Soul, Live etc etc etc.... Just a sick year that defined my kind of music.

It's weird. Back in 96 I took the music for granted. I just firgured this music would be popular forver and would be around on MTV/VH1 forever. I still remember the 96 MTV Music Awards. My favorite one of all-time.

The very next year would teach me that nothing lasts forver as the Spice Girls came in and fucked everything up.

YES!!!! THE PUMPKINS!!! But they actually became popular in like 94 though...with Siamese Dream. However, I get what you're saying with 96 because that was their peak with MCIS.

In my opinion best year in music was either...1976, 1991, or 1994. You can kinda guess for each reason as to why....76--punk explosion in US and UK, 91---grunge, and 94-punk rock and more of the alternative bands.....94 was the one I lived through mostly

The mid 90's were great yeah. Everyone in High school would play nothing but alt-rock.

1994 for instance saw the releases of albums by soundgarden, STP, Green Day, Nirvana, Bush, Live, Pearl Jam, Weezer, OLP, AIC and so many others..well 94/95...up to 1996, then when 97 hit, you started to see a bit of the decline of alternative nation. At least for mainstream wise popularity.

1969/1970.

You've got Hendrix at his peak right before the end, the Beatles doing what they do best, Pink Floyd developing, and the emergence of Led Zeppelin.

Agree with Hero, 84 owned. I was a young punk with a mullet, army pants, and a 3/4 Maiden t-shirt back in the day. I was greatness. The Crüe, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Maiden, The Scorpions, WASP(I think their S/T album was an 84), Ozzy, Def Leppard, etc.... It was a great time to be a head banger.

Would not say that yet, a lot of good bands have released stuff already. Bloc Party's album was great, listen to a few of their songs. Coldplay's new album from what I have heard breaks them out as not just another pop act, sounds like it could be world class. Albums still to come out from bands I like anyway such as Radiohead, My Vitriol comeback. All sorts of bands coming out of everywhere in a new direction too, in every genre, way i see it is, some things are bound to be great, looks promising anyway

If FF says that 2005 is a bad year for music, 2005 is a bad year for music OK.
