Not as good as it could have been but definitely worth watching. Especially if you're a fan. It gives a little insight as to what things are like behind the scenes. Overall it's a must have for any wrestling fan.

"Beyond The Mat" is basically a documentary about Terry Funk, Mick Foley, and The Rock. It gives alot of insight as to what wrestling is like behind-the-scenes.

For example, it shows Foley & The Rock talking pre-match about their plans for the match[what moves they will do at which time, etc] and they then cut to the actual match. In which point, it shows The Rock hitting Foley with the chair shots. He actually hit Foley with the chair shots more times than they had discussed. Foley was upset with The Rock and told him.

Overall, the whole thing was cool. I only rented it though, as I didn't see it as worth owning.

Dude, Rock was only in it cos of Foley!

It basically follows Funk, Foley and Jake Roberts as well as those two guys who have try out matches indepth whilst covering others as well (Spike Dudley, KoKo B. Wear)

I'd say it's well worth watching!

Go buy it!

I saw it in theaters (I dont know if it was realised everyone in theaters, but it was in my area which was cool). And then I bought it. It isn't a great movie, and it certainly doesn't depict wrestling in a favorable light, but it is quite honest. I goes into Jake's personal problems and Terry Funk's health problems more then anything else. There is a large chunk devoted to Rock/Mankind Royal Rumble 99 match, but other then that it doesn't do too much on either of them.

Worth a viewing. I onl bought it because it was on sale.

You people are all totally off your rocker. I thought it was thoughtful and incredibly insightful if you paid attention.

From Vince as the evil promoter to New Jack as the real life thug making a living being violent to seeing the way that Tony Atlas and Jake Roberts have to make a living now that their glory days are done to the inability of Terry Funk to walk away from wrestling, I thought it was riveting.

And if yo're a fan of Mick Foley at all, and specifically of Mick Foley the person, the scenes where Foley has to watch footage of what his children go through during his bloodier matches....just wow. Poignant.

This isn't for fan-boys. I's not supposed to put wrestlers or the business in a "positive light." Its an honest look at what the business does to people.

I loved the bit when Mick asked his dad if he and his kids could wrestle in the basement and he said no

Calm down. No one said that BTM was a bad documentary or anything. I just said that it was simply better to rent than to own, if you've never seen it before.

Secondly, who determines who's "fan-boys" or not? I certainly am not a "fan-boy". I actually liked and appreciated the brutal honesty in "Beyond The Mat" as it related to Jake 'The Snake' Roberts. Most people wouldn't have had the guts to have all their personal problems aired like that, but, Jake did. Again, the parts involving Foley & The Rock were great too.

My fav part was about Terry Funk. To any true fan of wrestling, it was definetely the best part. Funk is a legend and it's nice to see his dedication to the sport. Even though the doctors told him to retire, he keeps on doing it, because he loves it. You don't see too many new wrestlers with that kind of dedication and love for pro wrestling.
