If I was running WWE this is what I would do....
First off I would take a look at ECW's one night stand buyrate and compare it to the last few Smackdown PPV's. If the ECW buyrate is higher I scrap Smackdown all together after the UPN Smackdown contract expires. I put Paul Heyman in charge of ECW and I use it as the second show in place of Smackdown.
Second of all I book RVD to win the ECW World Heavyweight Championship at One Night Stand. This was one of the biggest blunders in the wrestling world and most be corrected. Would this make the wrestling world more interesting? Thoughts? Destiny!!!!! (Credit:Hired Hitman and Marcyo ) |

I like the idea pretty much, but if you did that, the ECW ratings would boost while Raw's ratings would go down faster than Edge goes down in Lita.
Think about everyone losing interest in what we might call 'classical' wrestling and go for the hardcore one. |

I got a call from a pal who is a very causual fan and well, to say the least Paul Heyman got a "who is that guy? and why has he not shown up on Raw Before"? response so maybe ECW can pull ratings in hell, anything is better then watching the slow death of SD.

RVD confirmed that he won't be able to wrestle on the PPV, he'll just be there in person.

Anyway, a full fledged ECW brand would be interesting, but it probably wouldn't work out. If anything, I'd have the ECW brand take over Velocity's timeslot or even Heat's. I'm sure that USA would be willing to move it around. They would HAVE to stay true to ECW, though. And that would mean Paul Heyman running it (with McMahon funding it). If it stayed true, and Vince let Paul run a little wild and let him hire some old ECW wrestlers and even some non-ECW workers, it could actually take off. Also, they would have to stay true to ECW and stay in the smaller arenas. You know, I could actually see Vince purchasing the ECW arena. |

keeping ECW would be great but instead of dropping smackdown, have it at the weekends.
or to make us all just as happy, drop some crap of the tv like masters etc. |

Think a more realistic option would be to hire enough talent that would suit ECW's needs and extend the brand further, maybe showing ECW in a late night timeslot where "anything goes".
Get someone like Mick Foley in as a Commissioner to fued with a GM Paul Heyman and you could have the makings of an excellent first feud. People who have been stale for a while like the returning Dudley's and others could get image makeover's and make up in this fed. Would also be a good way of creating new stars and bringing the super popular ones up to one of the two main shows. Have the five main PPV's (maybe a massive KoTR tournament) and one more brand specialist one for each fed and I think you could have yourself a nice system. |

Okay, even though I marked the fuck out for the ECW funeral segment last night. And I even marked out more when Paul Heyman said, "Remember, you can own ECW but I will be the one running ECW." I still have my reservations about bringing back ECW.
For one, the talent are a bit older and are no longer 25-30 years old. I can see using some of the older talent for the first few months to half a year. After that they MUST build and bring in new talent to be groomed as the next generation of ECW style wrestlers. Definitely some major talent on the indy scene right now that could be grabbed and used for ECW V 2.0 |

bringing back ECW in place of smackdown would be a dreadful idea
The interest in the ECW PPV was because we haven't seen ECW in over four years. OF COURSE lots of people bought the pay per view. It's the only ECW product offered. Smackdown right now is the more consistent brand name. I'd say that ECW could work as an addition rather than a replacement. It would only work, though, if it were made clear that WWE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Do a storyline where Paul Heyman quits WWE, have a "Financial backer" (who is never named and NOT A MCMAHON) buy the rights to ECW. Give them a TV deal on a station that isn't USA or UPN. This is the crucial part: don't have wrestlers from one fed show up on the other. Make them seem like separate entities. At the same time, run ads for the ECW show in WWE airspace. After 6 months of letting ECW find its rhythm, bring new people in, and get its storylines going smoothly, then maybe cross-promote, but make it clear that ECW and WWE are different things. Make it more like a crossover between two successful TV shows than vince running two wrestling shows. don't scrap smackdown in favour of ECW because it won't BE ECW, it'll be Vince McMahon's ECW, and he'll kill it as soon as it gets better ratings than RAW. |

One of the final ECW PPVs had a bigger buyrate than the WCW one did in a given month.
