Yeah, what is it about your favourite song that just makes you go "yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss, this is the best song ever"?
For me, my favourite song is War All The Time by Thursday. It is just a beautiful song, and it encompasses everything I love about the genre. There is rock, emotion, passion, anguish, depth, and beauty wrapped up in 4 minutes and 33 seconds. The song opens with a haunting guitar riff, setting the tone for the song. Then, just before Geoff's quietly beautiful first verse lyrics hit, there is a lovely introduction of harmonics guitar and quiet hits of the hi-hats. The lyrics are possibly the most depressing thing ever here, and it just sucks you in. When he talks about his best friend's older brother dying, the higher descending guitar just adds this surreal element to the song and then almost as soon as that's hit, there is a burst of funkier drums with snare hits. The verse fades to the lullaby of carbon monoxide... and then... ...then... these incredible, epic drums hit. Double kicks mixed with march-beat hits of the crash cymbals interchanged with snare hits. God, I love the chorus drums. I dunno, that is actually probably one of my favourite things about the song. The drums are mixed with the same higher descending guitar from before, which is simply lovely. The lyrics, again, are beautiful here. The song just flows beautifully between instrumentals and voice. The second verse moves in with loose hits of the hi-hat and snare, and Geoff's vocals have picked up in pitch and intensity. There is a beautiful part with some excellent gang vocals ("On and on and on and on...") and then we are hit with quite possibly one of the most anguished screams I have ever had the pleasure of hearing, before those FUCKING BRILLIANT EPIC DRUMS ARE BACK. ![]() Third verse. Once again, the vocals have picked up in pitch and intensity, but the other instruments have remained the same. It is kind of a hesitant pick up. It fades giving you a welcome when you are leaving... *anxious pause* HUGE EPIC CHORUS. GOD. The drums are incredibly powerful, even though the drummer has abandoned the double kicks ( ). Beautiful use of chorus vocals in the background, and Geoff's lyrics round the song out beautifully as the chorus fades to what leaves you thinking must be the end of the song, but that's a lie, because after a slight fading pause to let you readjust your face after it has been rocked off, the chunkiest guitars ever rock in with a lovely riff and lead into the very powerful outro, repeating "war all the time" again and again. Repeat to end. The song is nothing short of an epic journey, it is absolutely flawless. There is not one thing I would change about this song. And that, ladies and gentleman, is why Thursday's War All The Time is my favourite song. ![]() ![]() Quote:

Yeah, looking for something more substantial in this thread, actually. Otherwise I would've just asked what your favourite song is.
What is it about the song? Is it the lyrics? The instruments? The way it flows? C'MON. |

"Waitress" by Hopesfall
It starts off right away with no waiting with some cool drum work, and the guitars sound cool, which is my favorite part of Hopesfall, and they are the band that made me want to pick up guitar. Anyway, it changes to a cool breakdown with weird timing, and the drums-timing is really cool. Then it changes again to a cool part with just the vocals, drums, and someone clapping. Pretty strange the first time I heard it. The guitars then come in as the pace picks up again. It changes again to the drummer playing a really fast roll on the toms, while playing along with the guitarists perfectly. It changes to the only section in the song where the vocals are not screamed. It goes back quickly to more screaming, with some haunting lead guitar riffs. A little drum roll signifies another change and the guitar work is really cool as they both play a lead guitar role. The song quiets down, but the guitars, and then the drums bring you back in, for the heaviest part of the song. Cool double bass on this part. After, the lead guitar and off-time drums take you away into the instrumental part, which has a really haunting sound to it. The drum work remains compelling throughout the song. And it ends with a cool clean guitar/drum beat. The song also has pretty cool lyrics. I bolded the parts I like the best. these faces have fallen here before tired and blue a light that bleeds unforgiving shadows her olive eyes repeat failure in every glare a failure that mirrors itself with a foriegn stare hold it together you'll find your peace but the pieces are burnt shells that frame regret on every wall reflections of olive eyes pierce hole through her haunted heart she hates that stare her smiling face defense to the world a world filled with olive eyes that fram regret on every face |

Sounds like a mad song, I will have to give it a download. I'm a fan of songs with crazy time signatures, there's nothing better than a band that meshes so well together as a group of musicians that they can abandon most semblances of barriers of time signatures and the like. Lovely lyrics too.
Good job.

Well Mitch if you decide to download them, you should know that with all their albums, the sound is a little different. I'll explain. They have 4 albums.
The Frailty of Words was their first album, and it is the heaviest of all. No Wings To Speak Of was the last album that the singer Doug sang on, and it's only 4 songs, but I think it's their best release, all the songs are really epic and beautiful. The Satellite Years, which the song Waitress is from, is the first album the current singer Jay is on, and he does have a little different of a sound, and the songs on the CD are a little more melodic, but still pretty similar to the No Wings[..] album. The latest A Types, is almost a completely new sound. There's little screaming on the album, and the lead guitarist and drummer were both replaced, (with in my opinion, less talented people,) and the sound of the album is more something you would hear on the radio. Download "The End of an Era" it's from the No Wings album, and everyone seems to like that song who I've played it for. |

I'm not a fan of the new Hopesfall album, when they played stuff from it last night it was quite boring compared to older stuff.
Oh well Armor For Sleep on Sunday. ![]() I really don't have a favourite song but I'll think of one of my favourites to talk about. |

My current favourite song is Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day.
The acoustic guitar riff is a perfect setting. Billie Joe's voice is perfect for the lyrics and the mood being set. There are little notes being played, I think on an electric guitar throughout the second half of the first part of the song. There is the first verse and then the drums kick in form Tre Cool. Then the same riff is played by an electric guitar and then the power chords kick in. C - Cm - G5. The continued whitch from acoustic to electric in the song is quite cool. Some of the lyrics iin this song are really cool in my view. I particuluarly love the lines "Here Comes the rain again, falling from the stars" and "As my memory rests, but never forgets what I lost". Anyway the song goes on and then there is a real simple, easy guitar solo to play but it just sounds great. Solo finishes and the main riff is played on the acousitc with some notes being played on the electric guitar. Song ends with Billie Joe singing "Wake me up, when September ends". |

That song engages me into a virtual orgy. From the insane drumming to the heavy and mellow parts to maynard's orgasmic voice.

The thing about my favourite songs is that all of them are so close to each other, so that my top thirty list fits in the space someone else would reserve solely for their number one. I don't know if that makes sense or not, but they are all so so so so so close

I'm not doing a bit essay like that, but it's Wind Up by Thursday. Purely for the way it starts quite slow. Then Geoff just sings 'I don't know if I will cut through', and is the catalyst for the menacing shift in tone for the next line, and then you just hear 'Winding Up' being screamed, and the rest of a song is a whirlwind.
I've got a feeling that One Armed Scissor is close, and Untitled #1 by Sigur Ros will be soon. |

My fav song is "Wish you were here" by Pink Floyd. Just the basic rawness of the song can make me miss my family no matter where I am, even if its only at work.

OKay, I tried to do this all intelligently and explain why I love my favriote song and such but I just couldn't do it cause I can't explain why I like it so much.
All I know is its a song I can listen to any time and associate my feelings with it. Its probably the only song I've heard that I've never written a story to. Lol. I adore the Band Orgy, they got shit on back when they came out because they had people like Korn and such out which made them seem not so great. But honestly listen to them with an open ear and you get some Good shit. I'd say I like "Blue Monday" Which acctually has a Video I'd love to see again some day and "Dreams in Digital (Fiction)" Two primo examples of there music and abillities. Peace, Amaroqwolf. ![]() Best Band out of PA ever. Quote:
