John Cena:the last WWE champion?
With SD moving to Friday's it's clear to me that SD! will not be around by next year so..do any of you think that Cena will be forever known as the last WWE champion?

no. while it may be clear to you that SD! will get shit ratings by being on friday nights, the bookers will believe its the champs fault for not drawing enough and go with another one until they move channels and go back to a sensible time.

Vince has enough money to keep SD! on the air forever. It's not really a matter of concern.

Yup. You forsee the future. Not only will SmackDown! not last a year, and not only will John Cena not lose the title before then, but on top of it, they'll completely get rid of the WWE Title.

I very much doubt this would happen. Even if it did, I'd much rather they retire the World Heavyweight Championship, and switch it for the WWE Championship, the WWE Championship has so much history, so many names. The World Heavyweight, has Triple H
.

They'll never get rid of Cena's title. Its the title with all the WWE history, and WCW for that matter, behind it. Do you really think Vince is going to eliminate that?
There's still talk that they could trade the World Champions, and as a result the WWE title would be moved to RAW. I dont think the switch to Friday means the death of Smackdown. I really think the majority of their fanbase will search out the show no matter what day its on. The thing that I think will hurt is building a larger audience on Friday night. The other thing is that with the UPN deal ending in 06, its entirely possible they will move SD to USA (if there is interest) and I could see WWE getting back on Thurs, or maybe Tues night or something. EDIT Hey look, 6,000 posts! |

But I would bet a lot of money NBC wont put a wrestling show anywhere in their prime time lineup. I know NBC are going to do a couple of specials next year in the SNL timeslot, but I think thats as far as they will go. Maybe they could convince them to do one show as a special deal in Prime Time, but thats it. I think its far more likely that Smackdown will end up on USA as well. |

With this whole moving to friday deal gives me the feeling that Smackdown is gonna get the better part of the draft.

Well, cosidering that a big part of their marketing when UPN announced its new line-up was that the channel was "Where All the Girls Go" (trying to take advantage of the huge hit the Top Model show has become), its obvious Smackdownisn't staying on UPN.
But the WWE draws ratings. If not USA, then some channel is going to give SD a time slot. |

Back when NBC was drawing incredible ratings from "Must See TV", I would've said that Smackdown had no chance to air on that channel. Now, I'm not so sure. NBC's ratings are down currently, and even the "hip" networks are known to dip into the "redneck" market to get those extra viewers.
"Blue Collar TV" is one of the top rated shows on the WB, after all. |
