Arrow Update: One Night Stand

There is reportedly a lot of discussion taking place at this time among many within WWE about the upcoming ECW One Night Stand PPV on June 12. The original plan was for the event to be as authentic as possible and carry a "true" ECW feel to it. WWE even went as far as to incorporate former ECW stars not currently under contract with the company at this time and keep as many non-former ECW stars under contract with WWE off the show. However, those plans changed fast when it became obvious to many within the company that they miscalculated how to both price and promote the show and no doubt set some very unrealistic expectations for the event.

The hope among those in WWE management was that the show would draw at least a 300,000 buyrate, which is more than what an average RAW or SmackDown brand event does. They also banked on the show selling out right away, something that didn't happen thanks in part to extremely high prices that ranged from $400 down to $150 at the time. Even though many in the company spoke out against the $400 ticket price for floor seats, others noted the high sales of the ECW DVD and felt there was still a strong demand for the brand and that fans would pay top dollar to see it live. That point of view was proved wrong when tickets went on sale and they didn't move fast at all, especially the $400 seats.

After this took place, the decision was made to move away from the "ECW only" type aspect to the show and instead incorporate WWE workers on the show, with the thinking being that the show would draw more with other WWE stars involved. When that plan didn't work, the company decided to drop some of the ticket prices and by doing that the show will no longer be the "cash cow" that it was once expected to be. So for anyone expecting an ECW only type event on June 12, that idea appears to have been thrown out the window and many WWE workers from both brands are scheduled to take part in the event.

In regards to reaction among those in WWE about this, both from those who worked in ECW and those who didn't, expectations have reportedly gone down in a big way for the show. Those who were said to be very excited for the PPV a few weeks ago are now dreading it. Many are upset that the show has gone from being run and booked by both Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer to what is now considered the "baby" of the WWE creative team. Some feel the only way the show will have a shot at any success at this point is to bank on good matches.

I don't get it, so making it an WWE show will attract other people to fork out $400 for a seat? Why? They can pay $30 and see a normal RAW show with the superstars they know, instead of paying $400 to see midcard WWE stars and some guy called the Sand-er-man hit another guy he's never heard of either with one of those Kendo stick things Steve Blackman used to have?

Go back to bed Vinnie Mac! (edit - and don't get up)

Looks like i was right about the ticket prices after all, i knew they were way too high especially for a ECW one night show. ECW is meant to be against that kind of thing, paying $400 for a ticket seems abit much.Funny that they first tried to blame it on the ECW stars not having enough star power though, instead of it being their poor promotion skills/bad ticket pricing.

Im sorry but 400 for a seat is just to damn much. I love ECW much like the next guy but adding WWE wrestlers will not make me fork over more money for a seat. If I want a true ECW experience I wouldnt fork over 400 to see WWE stars fight. Thats just crap.

Especially when you consider hardcore homecoming's most expensive tickets are in the $130 range and that gets you into q and a sessions as well as autograph sessions.

They had them for more then $100...but that's not the point.

The point is, this is exactly what I feared would happen. Vince McMahon thinks he saved ECW from going bankrupt, BULLSHIT! Vince McMahon thinks he could book any event, BULLSHIT! Vince McMahon thinks he himself could create another ECW type feel, BULLSHIT! And now, because of piss poor promoting and build-up, he gets to blame all those ECW guys for his failures. Does the fucking man ever read anything? His company doesn't reach the financial mark they were shooting for, he gives himself a two million dollar bonus. ECW fans are so loyal to not only the wrestler but also the product that they continue to chant ECW whenever he brings in an ECW guy his company, so he squashes them. He is presented with an idea that could make him MILLIONS, so he assumes he needs his home grown talent to sell it. He charges a shit load of money, despite the company he is trying to copy was all about being able to reach out to the common man.

The fucker doesn't ever learn. He is a dick asshole mother fucker, who had two good ideas. Just one. Buy up all the talent from every else, and make an event called WrestleMania. After that, nope, he hasn't had one. He nearly went bankrupt a couple of times, and then he completly gave up on trying to get Steve Austin over, and then Steve along with Rock and other's changed themselves and got themselves over, giving Vince a shit load of money. Now he thinks he is some creative god, well fuck off asshole! You ain't shit! You shit on those who give you everything! Without Paul Heyman, WWE would NEVER have beaten WCW. You ripped your ideas off from him, and then packaged it to the world. Now you can't even give Paul Heyman ONE FUCKING SHOW to do on his own. I think if I saw Vince McMahon right now I would feel the urge to spit in his face, and ask him to do the same to his son-in-law.

The WWE obviously has some brilliant marketing tacticians. Obviously those seats weren't selling well because Hunter wasn't on the card.

He knew that if he didn't overprice those tickets then it would sell extremely well, better than his onw Raw/SD! PPV shows so he had to find a reason to make the sales look terrible and this is the ywa to do it. This is they wa to blame ECW. THis is the way to say that his product, his brand is the best and is better than the other two. To show why he ruled and bought out hte other two.

IT's just disheartening and isck. Also bad business.

So basically this show is the wrestling world's "Woodstock". The original ECW was for true fans who didn't have to pay much to watch a really good show. Then a new generation came years later and idolized the show without ever experiencing what the show was about, and somebody thinks they can make a fortune off of it. Next thing you know you're paying $400 per seat and $8 for a bottle of water to watch a show that has nothing to do with what the original show was about.

Think about it. There's a lot of parrallels being drawn between the two.

unfortunatly, this isnt ECW at all. Hey, im glad to say i got to see a REAL ECW show, the last Heat Wave when they did it in Los Angeles (the one and only westcoast swing they did). Long live the REAL ECW, not this bullsh*t. I dunno, im jus pissed that they f*cked this up, could have been something. And if i recall, i paid $60 to go to Heat Wave, and i had some damn good seats.

and on a side note, is anyone else irritated by all the obviously noob ecw fans who jumped on the bandwagon? You know, those ones that chant off key with everyone else, and rather say 'double-u' than 'dub' (which, IMO, is the real way to say it). I dunno, since ECW has now been glorified as this rebeloius (sp) promotion, doesnt that kill the rebellion? Like the whole skater syndrome my friend, people who dont know how to skateboard...but dress like a skater and carry their skateboards around than actually use them to SKATE. Its whats in, so they run with it but know nothing about it. I dunno, random rant...sorry, i apologize. Bye now, time for nighty night

How bout we change the title of the pay per view to ECW : Watered Down. I knew they couldnt keep there slimey fucking hands off one god damn thing. They had to make a good buck out of it and now they have to go ahead and ruin it completely by putting WWE stars in it. One pay per view. Thats it. Just one. Is it to hard to do one pay per view with all the ECW stars.

Vince McMahon has become a fucking clown. A joke to the world of wrestling. You have something amazing going and you manage to out think yourself and totally fuck it up. Congradulations you stupid dueche bag. I , being a casual wrestling fan, was gunna buy this pay per view for the single fact that i thought it was gunna be a real ECW pay per view. I dont even buy Wrestlemanias for christ sakes , but i thought " hell this thing could be fucking amazing". Not anymore. I'll gladly put my credit card away Vincy. I'll buy Shane Douglas's ECW reunion show rather then waste my hard earn money on some watered down ECW bullshit. I DONT WANT TO SEE MAVEN OR CHRIS MASTERS ON MY ECW REUINION CARD YOU FUCKING RICH ASSHOLE! I dont wanna see Triple H stick his fat ugly nose in this pay per view and run off a 15 minute segment where he just talks. If i wanna see 15 minutes of talking and self indulgence TRIPLE H i'll watch Dr. Phill. Take you fucking wrestlers and do a WWE Pay Per View. Dont you dare fucking have the balls to insult my inteligence, by labeling this pay per view ECW. I'll gladly order Shane Douglas's ECW reuinon show over this one. I'll download your pay per view off the internet Vince. Too bad you had to go fuck it up. You almost had my $39.95. So close.

You know what? That's exactly Vince McMahon's point of view. "Who cares if these internet fuckers don't buy it! I'm still rich!" And that's what's wrong with him, he honestly doesn't give a shit what the fans want. This ECW thing is just another example of that. I'm still reserving judgment until after I've seen the show.

Is the Douglas show gonna be PPV as well? For some reason I was under the impression it wasn't. Cool if it is.

I believe they plan on releasing it on video, but to my knowledge, it is not available live on Pay-Per-View.

I had a dream last night that I went to the ECW PPV “One Night Stand”, I had a front row ticket for the event, the show started with a tag team match between Jericho and Benoit Vs Hurricane and Rosey, yeah... people weren't happy because the people in the ring are from the WWE.

I went to get a drink from the drink machine at the back of the room, when I got there two guys beat me up, they were so angry with the lack of ECW stars they wanted to vent their anger and I was the closest person to them at the time, they busted my head open and threw me onto a wall, then they left me laying in a puddle of my own blood.

A little while later I regain consciousness and I make my way towards my seat. When I get there the people sitting around my seat are looking at the blood running down my face, I tell them to forget about it and watch the show.

A few minutes later I see the two guys in the seats straight across the ring, I jump over the guard rail, grab a kendo stick from Steve Blackman and beat the living crap out of those two guys, I drag them over the guard rail and ram their head into the ring post one after the other, everyone starts to chant ECW, for the first time that night, The Security Guards took me back to my seat and told me to sit down, I sat down and watched the show.

A few matches passed when Vince McMahon is shown on the big screen, he says he is making a match between me and those two guys... I am shocked, but thrilled because I can kick their asses again, then he says it will be a handicap match... needless to say I was pissed off and the crowd were strongly behind me cheering me on.

I got in the ring, The two men ran down the entrance way, slid into the ring and was met with a chair to the back of the head, the other slid in and was about to be hit with the same chair that took out his partner but he was able to block it by kicking me in the gut, he started pounding on me hard lefts and rights to the chest, I kicked him in the balls as his partner was coming at me with a kendo stick, I rolled out of the way of his shot, he hit his partner, I quickly did a roll up and got a 2 count.

The match went on for a bit longer and ended with one guy holding my arms behind my back and the other diving off the top rope, I quickly moved behind the guy that was holding me and his partner took him out, as the guy that dived off the top rope was rolling through his impact I grabbed his head and nailed a DDT onto a chair, I made the cover and got the three count.

The crowd went nuts, with a strong chant of ECW echoing in the background, I leaded against the ropes, tired, raised my arm in the air for an outstanding cheer, I fell down and rolled out of the ring, walked up the entrance way when The Undertaker comes out and Chokeslams me through the ramp.

There were a few more matches and finally I was able to drag myself back to my seat, people around me were angry that my match about an hour ago was the only ECW style match they had that night...half of the fans walked out right there, then the guards told us to all sit in one area and moved all the cameras so they wouldn't see a seat without a person in it.

The main event was Triple H Vs The Undertaker Vs Vince McMahon Vs Paul Heyman in an elimination match for the right to own WWE/WCW/ECW, Paul Heyman was eliminated first in the opening seconds, then the Undertaker was eliminated by Vince McMahon, then Vince was about to eliminate Triple H when the Undertaker ran out and Chokeslamed Vince, Triple H covers him to own the rights to WWE/WCW/ECW the cameras fade out while a chant of "You got to be kidding" echoes through the arena.
