world titles losing credibility
Okay I was doing some thinking after seeing Dave Arquette as the new RTW and thinking about his title reign.

When did some of the titles start losing credibility.

LIke for the WCW title I could imagine that it really took a nosedive either after Nash ended GOldberg's streak due to Hall using that taser gun or Hogan picking up the title with the finger poke of doom. Or also that whole Jarrett, Russo, Hogan fiasco at Bash at the Beach.

FOr the World title on Raw, I would say when Bischoff just handed Triple H the title. I dunno. Just curious what folks would have to say about this.

Also bout the IC title, US title, Cruiserweight lost it when it went to Jacqueline and Chavo Sr.

Tag titles lost it when tag teams were disappearing left and right.

And Women's title lost it way back when the only matches they seemed to bedefended in were mud wrestling, eggnog, bikini contests, or whatever crap they came up with when Miss Kitty/The Cat held it.

IC lost it when it was won every 2 weeks back in 2000. Also the IC guy was always upper-midcard and seen as a contender for the World Title.

Yeah then there came the period of time when the IC champ was supposed to be considered a top contender for the world title but that changed and he was just seen as an IC champion and nothing more. Not even a challenge for the world champion. That's when it started going downhill.

I'd say the IC title lost a lot of it's credibility back in 1999 when it was held by the likes of Road Dogg and Chyna.

Are you kidding? The hardcore championship never had any credibility. It was a torn -up, piece of shit of a belt contested by the likes of Big Boss Man and Al Snow. Fair play; its 1st few holders were greatness (Mankind and Shamrock) but after that it became a third rate belt with no real value or purpose.

The 24/7 innovation was at least mildly entertaining, but then like most angles in the WWE, it was overkilled.

WCW title started loosing credibility with the Finger Poke of Doom and then lost any shred of credibility it had when Russo won it.

yeah it did but like i twas said the hardcore title started hot. Mankind holding it. Shamrock holding it. I'ma even say Road Dogg was a good hardcore champ. He took a lot of abuse in those matches and still delivered.

when it was being passed around like nothing to Bossman it sort of lost it. Hardcore HOlly and Al Snow tried to revive it but it wasn't working. Blackman wasn't too cool either sometimes. I mean some of his in-ring work with the weapons was cool but then became very repetititve.

RVD as the hardcore champ was cool as well.

SPeakin of which European title. First Bulldog wins it and it's cool. Then Shawn wins it and it's meh. THen he lays down for HHH to win it and that's when it started tumbling. But it still held some because I mean it was HHH and Owen was goin after him. BUt once it went to D'lo who knows how many times it was no longer a European title but just D'Lo's belt.

The WWE US Title lost it's credibility once the title went to Orlando and he hasn't done anything with it.

The cruiserweight title never had credibility. The World title lost credibility after they started giving it to whoever got a pop, and the WWE title lost credibility when it became a smackdown exclusive title. However JBL's long title reign has restored it's credibility.

Yeh, the European Championship was D'Lo's belt for sure, but there's only so many times a belt can be passed between wrestlers (HHH/HBK, Henry/Jarrett) before it loses it's meaning. I mean, for god's sake, Shane even retired the dam thing.

well when the WWE title became SMackdown exclusive it still had some. I would say when the champ Brock began to become scared of challengers (Harddcore Holly) is when it started slipping. Then Eddie picked it up because of Goldberg didn't help matters. BUt when Eddie beat Angle at WM XX that helped quite a bit.

THen when he first lost it to JBL in that bullrope match it was pretty sad. BUt despite JBL's cowardly acts he played it well and was still able to deliver. And his promos were still good so that really helped the title look good. THen at WM 21 he was spanked by Cena. Then Cena decided he needed to "make it cool" and that hurt it some but hopefully Cena can still deliver.

The World title was losing major creds when Triple H would take it back after someone held it for like a month or two and basically have teh entire show focused around him. Even making himself more important than the world title itself. That's when the World title really started becoming meaningless.

The IC title was nothing until Orton won it. Matter of fact I forgot who Orton won it off of. BUt Orton's title reign was the goods. And that hardcore amtch against MIck at Backlash did nothing but help him and that title. HIm in the Royal Rumble as number 2 and lasting as long as he did was awesome. Then one night he loses it to a returning Edge and that really sucked for the title and the reign and everything. Now Shelton has it and they aren't doin a thing with it. That right now is the main thing that's killing it. There are no feuds for Shelton to really become a part of. Nothing for the IC champ to do.

Orton won it from RVD I believe!

To me the WWE Title lost some credibility when they put it on JBL. To me he was still a beer-swilling, poker-playing, former-minion of the UnderTaker, tag team wrestler. The way he won it was awful! I mean, falling into the 4th turnbuckle to win it, come on!

HHH hurt the WHC when it became vacant back in Dec/Jan and he won it back at New Year's Revolution! Just seemed pointless and a huge let down for me!

It's a shame really how some of the titles have been completely diminished!

The tournaments for the WWE US Title and WWE Tag Team Titles on SD! where awesome. Angle, Benoit, Eddie (& Los Guerreros), Rey, Cena, Edge! Good stuff!

The downhill from there!

if there is one thing I really do miss for the world titles and such are feuds. Actual feuds for the belts. lately all there is are just tournaments to determine the contender. and the real porblem with those tourneys is that you already know who is gonna win the tourney so what is the point of having those things? That's just time taken away from what could be built up as an even better feud
