TNA & WGN Stop All Negations?!

Quote:
According to the webmasters of the WGN website, TNA Wrestling will not be picked up by the network.

The programming department at WGN has confirmed this story, but will not comment on what stopped negotiations. There are no indications as to exactly who walked away from the negotiations, WGN or TNA. But as of this report, WGN is no longer an option for TNA television.

[source: pwinsider.com]
There is no official word from TNA yet, but I guess this could be the death of the company now. It's such a shame too, because I was getting really excited with the fact that there might actually be some head to head competition in wrestling again.

Either one of two things are going to occur with TNA:

1) They fold

or

2) They find a TV deal before the end of the summer and hold off on their demise.

The WGN deal didn't sound like such a great deal anyways. Especially the every other Monday crap. How in the hell was TNA suppose to compete with WWE when they were only going to be on once every two weeks? TNA is probably knocking on Spike TV's door pretty hard now.

It wasn't going to be every other monday. They would air a LIVE edition of it every other monday.

They would do it live and tape the next week's episode that Tuesday.

Here's a bit more detailed rundown of what Wade Keller of pwtorch.com reported:

Apparantly TNA is the one that walked away.

1. WGN wanted TNA to pay them for the show, regardless of ratings. TNA was willing to pay for their slot early, because they felt with their new booking team (D'Amore, Tenay, Banks, Borash) and the and their overall product they would gain viewership. TNA wanted the deal so that if ratings went well, they would no longer have to pay for the slot. WGN did not like this and wanted TNA to pay even if ratings went very well. In short, it would have been no different than the FSN deal, and likely more expensive since it's primetime.

2. There is another option out there, but TNA is not saying who. Keller says the overall feeling is TNA does have another deal out there, to the point that TNA essentially walked away from WGN. It could be Spike, or possibly somebody else.

3. There is a TV taping scheduled after their next PPV. It could simply be for international outlets, but it is possible something else is out there.

4. Keller says there is absolutely no aura of panic from who he talked to. It could be "false hope", but even the experienced wrestlers he talked to said that they are not worried. Even though nothing is announced they feel that there is nothing to be concerned about.

Keller just threw out names as far as other networks, but mroe just to give ideas. What he said was Spike, FX, or even Bravo for all he knows. I think he was saying FX more as filler than as an actual conrete candidate.

thanks to Jackieellisworld@aol.com
Credit goes to Steve Gerweck and Gerweck.net

Well I'm surprised WGN wants TNA to pay for the timeslot. So moving from FSN to WGN would make no difference.

They figured since WCW did it, they could as well.

The difference is that WCW had talent that people WANTED to watch over WWE. Hogan, Flair, and Savage were a little more popular than Jarret, Gunn, and Hardy. Sure, TNA's "in-ring" talent pool is greater than that of WWE's, but the casual fan isn't gonna change the station from RAW to see TNA.

Wouldn't surprise me if TNA got a deal with another small network and kept themselves in business for a short stint. By business I mean bad business.
