Catering to the Internet Fans?

Well, it's pretty obvious that the WWE is now paying attention, if not catering to, the Internet fans...

1. Flair used the terms "mark" and "shoot" on-air. Flair, the guy who hates people using insider terms.

2. WWE.com featured the JBL-Meanie incident on their web site and had both sides tell their part of the story.

3. Chris Jericho called Tyson Tomko "goatboy", something I've only heard on the Internet message boards, especially this one.

4. Chris Jericho later said, "Nash would tear a hamstring just pickin' up the phone". Who else makes fun of Nash's chronic hamstring problems!

Also, in the Flair-Angle match, when Flair fell off the corner, did anyone else catch Flair saying "Sorry, man. Sorry." and then Angle going "It's OK" when he grabbed him by the head to bring him back into the ring? That was awesome.

I agree that the WWE is paying more attention to internet fans nowadays. However, I wonder if Flair really was ever that dead set against the use of insider terms. I'd take his interviews with a grain of salt. After all, Flair mentioned a few inside terms on his own DVD.

Jericho invented the term "goatboy" for Tomko. He said it once before and itm stuck... at least here. I was hoping people would chant it at him.

^ Doh! Just beaten! Yeah... Goatboy was a Jericho term that stuck with the internet community.

But hey, maybe they finally realized we're the only ones still watching. I think it's a good thing.

I seem to remember Flair using 'Mark' or 'Shoot' at least once before in a promo.

As for catering to the Internet fans, yeah, they're starting to realize that we're a bit bigger of a fan base than they thought, or wanted to acknowledge. I guess the whole Matt Hardy fiasco proved to them that the Internet has a stronger influence than they thought. Without the IWC (Internet Wrestling Community), it would have never seen the light of day and there wouldn't have been a tease for Hardy, or even Heyman's predetermined shoot.

Of course, without the IWC, Heyman would not have a job with WWE. ECW would have died a silent death.

Now that I think about it, Matt Hardy would more than likely still have a job without the IWC.

Internet fans is all the WWE have got left nowdays. We're the loyalest fans they've ever had, we spend more of our time and money on watching their product than anyone else, so i think it's about time they recognised us realising the only way they'll survive is to keep us happy.
