Family guy V Simpsons

Family guy V Simpsons, now I know this argument/topic has been done before, but I want to take a differant angle at it. By this I mean instead of comparing the shows/storylines and other things like that, compare the chracters.

Simpsons - Family Guy

Homer - Peter

Marge - Lois

Bart - Chris

Lisa - Meg

Maggie - Stewie

Santa's little Helper - Brian

Lenny - Quagmire

Carl - Cleveland

Milhouse - Tom Tucker's Kid

Kent Brockman - Tom Tucker and Diana

Police Cheif Wiggum - Joe

Ned Flanders - Mort

if there is any I forgot please add them in, but basically my idea is just for you to pick your favourite characters listed, or not listed if I forgot them, and well go from there.

discuss

After you get past like Homer/Peter they're all obvious.

Actually, the first one is pretty easy too.

The character from Family Guy with the most similar anti-authoritarian stance is, in my opinion, Stewie. Both Bart and Stewie are mischievous, and though Bart lacks Stewie's obvious intelligence, they share a common ground. Besides, if you speak to anyone about their favourite Griffin child, they will answer 'Stewie'. Think back to the early '90s before The Simpsons became 'Homer's show', and everybody was in love for Bart for essentially the same reasons.

Lisa's closest equivalent from the Griffins is Brian - He, too, is the voice of reason, the intelligent one. When the Griffins need a cultural question answered, they look to Brian. Brian knows all about legitimate theatre, and other such 'civilised' institutions; a streak of Lisa if ever there was one. It could be argued, in fact, that Brian and Stewie are the 'real' Lisa and Bart of the Griffins and that Chris and Meg are there to provide background laughs much in the same vein as Grandpa Simpson.

Maggie is cutesy filler - very rarely have the Simpsons writers made her the focus of an episode. If anyone, Maggie is closest to Cleveland Jr. (despite his obvious ADD problems) - as I said, cutesy filler.

They are two extremes in a spectrum. However, there is another person in Quahog that is blissfully unaware of how terrible he is at doing his job, and is easily one of the stupidest people in the town, putting him right on par with Wiggum. I speak of course of Quahog's beloved Mayor, Adam West. It takes Wiggum moments of reflection to get the lighter side in Sideshow Bob calling him 'Chief Piggum'. Adam West thinks someone is stealing his water. They are both reluctant to fulfill their duties in their high civil positions, but both are firm in the belief that they are more than competent and that is a far more defining basis for comparison than a mere job position.

Both Kirk and Mort are sad examples of existence, and have far more in common than Ned and Mort ever conceivably could have.

I think you should have thought this out.

Bart - Chris

Second Child
Lisa - Meg

Third Child
Maggie - Stewie

Except Chris is the second child, since he is 13, and Meg is 16. Whoops. Also, if you REALLY want to be pedantic, Chris is the third child, since the Griffins had an elder daughter who Meg killed when she was younger.

I wouldn't classify Wiggum as Homer's friend, to be perfectly honest. Not on anywhere near the level that Joe is a friend to Peter.

So... why necessarily Flanders? A number of people appear on The Simpsons regularly who annoy the pants off people far more than Ned Flanders ever did.

You said you were comparing characters. Traits. Common ground. Not status. The two are completely different.

Example:

There are two women on a bus. Both are mothers with three children. One of them murdered her husband's family last night with an icepick and dumped the bodies in a river. But, hey. They're still both mothers, so they're the same, right?

And I didn't like yours, so I did do my own. Just letting you know.

But possibly not to the lengths that Mitch went to.

once again your overthinking I tried to make it simple.

Also, thankyou, I forgot that meg's the oldest. I'll just change meg and Lisa to the only daughters, while changing Bart and Chris to Older/only Male child

And in your mind who do you beleive to be chris's oldest friend, as the only indication to him having a close friend is in the first ep of the new series

But it's not a topic that should be simple. That's my point. These are, for the most part, complex characters, who can't really be slapped together in socially-based stereotypes. Mothers, fathers, only daughters (which again you're wrong on, since Lisa is one of two daughters. Try and keep up), etc. doesn't cut it with these characters, I'm afraid. They all possess unique beliefs, mannerisms, tiny little details that most live-action sitcom characters don't, and there is simply no way to conceivably pigeonhole them as you have attempted to do.

And of the episodes I have seen (which is all of seasons 1-3), I would not say Chris has any particularly close friends. I haven't seen anything from season 4, but that's not really my fault since it isn't being broadcast over here.
