Hassan - Smackdown spoiler
OK, I thought this might need it's own topic. Here is a description of said match.

Undertaker squashes Daivari with a chokeslam and Tombstone, but the big thing is Hassan summoning 5 or 6 masked men that just kinda look like terrorists to destroy the Undertaker, beating him and choking him out with piano wire. Hassan adds on a camel clutch for extra measure, and if that wasn’t enough, the masked terrorists lift Daivari up above their heads like a martyr and carry him to the back. I sincerely wish I was making this up.

I say that the only way they can really cross the line is to do a storyline about blowing shit up or killing people or something. Although this IS pushing it....

I don't know, I liked how Hassan's character was just this Arab-American who saw his rights restricted, now their portraying him as somewhat of a terrorist.

Lol, something along the lines of this...

The terrorists strap explosives to the ring posts. Just as Billy Kidman is ascending the turnbuckles for a shooting star press, they ring the WWE with an annonymous tip off that if Kidman leaves the turnbuckle the ring wil explode.

All the locker-room rushes down to the ring to stop Kidman jumping off seconds beforer his feet leave the pad. Then ensues a long, drawn out segment with Kidman sat on the turnbuckle unable to get off and Torrie Wilson crying in the background.

But man... the WWE has been ridiculously racist lately. I don't know how they haven't been sued yet, but this cutting edge beats Katie Vick cutting edge, so I guess I'm not complaining.

I remember reading the spoiler for the Katie Vick episode of Raw and thought it was going to be horrendous and sickening. The spoilers were saying that HHH goes to the graveyard and actually digs up a real live Katie to hump.

When I saw it on Raw, aside from being relieved, I was actaully more amused. It was just stupid and pointless. The difference being that this new angle is being portrayed as real, with real emotions and real motives involved, so naturally, it might upset more. Fingers crossed hey?

Wait, I thought the premise behind Hassan's gimmick is that he's an Arab-American as equal as anyone else. Now they turned him into a semi-terrorist. Way to ruin a profound gimmick and turn him into a total stereotype.

Actually, now that I think about it, yeah, it's totally ruined his character if they've associated him with "terrorists." Number, it's dumb to begin with and will definitely make Arab Americans pissed off. Secondly, it does cross the line in terms of good taste. And thirdly... Hassan was a heel with a point. Now he's just on a jihad... which is stupid, cuz you might has well call him Osama. So it's plain stupid... he's been made to be a total hypocrite, and that was the one thing his gimmick could not fall into if it was to be successful.

Pretty stupid... besides, what happened to Orton? Sheesh.

To most WWE fans (marks) he's a foreigner. They have (seriously) forgotten that Hassan is from America. Hassan DOES make notes of it during his earlier promos, but his promos as of late don't really touch on it. They're all about racism against himself.

What King and JR were saying didn't exactly help the lower-IQed (or very racist) fans. Like when they say 'love it or leave it', some fans must think "oh, he must have to leave because he's not from here. He needs to go back to fucking camels."

They could make it a point to have Hassan reiterate to the fans that he is American. If they still boo him, tough shit, he still makes a great heel because he symbolizes the ignorance of Americans. Why should the fans be given a legitimate reason to boo him?

Honestly can we even get offended anymore as wrestling fans? We have a guy denounce his mexican heritage, 3 Mexicans play up to their stereotypes, 2 Frenchies (I'm not counting Conway), 2 Arab Americans who were pointing out stereotypes, a guy whose fucked a dead girl, a guy shocking another guy's nuts on TV, and a guy who fucked a dead girl, a guy has been crucified, and did I mention HHH fucking Katie Vick?

I gave up being offended years ago. Probably at the Katie Vick angle, because I figure that that's as far as they can possibly go for shock value.

Although I'm still offended when they insult my intelligence. Because, you know, I want to see boobies and whores in a food fight every other week on a wrestling program.

Muhammad Hassan in Iraq?
Ok I was going to put this in the other thread about Hassan but it contained Smackdown spoilers and not everybody will read it. I was thinking the other day if Smackdown goes to Iraq this year, will Hassan go too? I can't imagine him wrestling over there as I think that would be pushing the envelope way too far. His gimmick would piss off the American soldiers over there not to mention the Iraqis. The only thing I can think of is he would either not go, have a gimmick change before then, or be traded back to RAW. But Smackdown usually goes to Iraq in December and I doubt he'll be traded by then. I just can't see Mark Magnus working that gimmick over there. He'd probably be scared shitless that something bad might happen to him and I can't say I blame him. Muhammad Hassan is a VERY controversial character. I don't think WWE thought about him going to Iraq when they traded him from RAW to Smackdown. I can only assume that they are not going to Iraq this year. Thoughts?

I was there for the 'terrorists'. It wasn't as 'wtf' as you may think. It was still kinda radical though.

They made reference to Daivari being a "sacrifice for a greater cause" as well. Kida extreme, but stil lookin good.

Wasn't as baltantly offensive as it seems to be. Alot of people there didn't even connect the masked men to terrorists. It'sa all a matter of perception. But, I could definately see how it could've easily been taken that way.

They haven't ruined assan by doing this, let's just say that. You'll se on Thursday. I actually thought it to be very entertaining.

I dont see the big deal.

I watch 24, and they have actors portraying Arab-American and foreign terrorists. Its a part of entertainment these days. If I dont get upset when a show like 24 does it, how can I get mad at WWE?

I guess you could say it hurts his gimmick, but as has been pointed out, at this point his gimmick is basically that he's Anti-American, so he might as well be a terrorist.

Of course they could work it into Hassan's character. He could just say the treatment he has recieved has forced him to become what he has become. He keeps getting passed over and over looked, so now he's got these "cells" to help him so that its impossible to overlook him.

This hasn't ruined the character at all. They could do something great with this. One, Hassan could denounce the terrorism and dump Davari claiming he's giving him a bad name...

Or, they could reveal the terrorist to be other minorities including Arab Americans (Like the Mexicools, Orlando Jordan, etc,) who could talk about America holding them down and stereotyping them due to their race)

They CAN recover from this.... Doesn't mean they will.

Yeah, that's the only thing I can think of as well, but it still makes his past few months hypocritical, since the basis was that he was being discriminated for no GOOD reason.

I was going to comment about "24" as well. If they can pull it off on other shows without pissing off half the globe, why can't the WWE. (They pulled that shit with Sarge's heel turn against Hogan during the first Gulf War). I, for one, will be watching to see how this plays out. Could be good.

Very silly all this. Honestly, they MUST make all their great characters cartoon-like, don't they? Hussan has reached cartoon super-villiany with this over the top attack, but I leave the rest of my judgement on what is onscreen.
