TNA's problem with characters...IMO
I had to give this rant since its been bugging me for a while now.
Besides the obvious few of good wrestlers, they have a lot of shitfest wrestlers with no gimmick except for their real names (or fake but you get the point). Case: Sonny Siaki and Apollo...I will never give a shit about these people which TNA seems to comprise themeselves with a lot of. TNA needs to sign more mexican luchadores, and increase on some of the big guys with decent gimmicks. Seems like Abyss is the only one currently with a gimmick (and its a complete rip off of Mankind). Matt Morgan would be a great addition to TNA, and Rhyno was a great pick up by them. They have so many problems, but this would be a step in the right direction for the company thats in a piss poor state. Also, I hear Panda is a $2.2 billion corporation. So why the hell are they giving TNA so little money to work it?! I AM PABLO. |

I would think that if I was a shareholder in Panda Energy (assuming they're a publicly held company), I wouldn't be so thrilled that the company was throwing even more money in a wrestling venture that so far hasn't shown a very solid return on investment.
I will agree that TNA does have a problem establishing characters, though. On any given day, I can't tell Lance Hoyt apart from the opponent most times. Abyss, Raven, and Shark Boy are the only ones I can recall with unique stand-out gimmicks. Last edited by El Santo; 07-25-2005 at 09:07 AM. |

This is why TNA is different, it's not about stupid gimmicks it's about wrestling. Sadly enough according too most people on here, they rather watch guys like LOD 2005,JBL,Hassan. I take Samoa Joe,Daniels,Styles anyday of the week.
I admit TNA does have character development problems(mostly during the Impact era though). When TNA had weekly ppvs, guys like Styles,AMW,Killings had a chance to get their character over. Since Scott D'AMORE took over, the Impact shows have been great.I'm expecting things will get better once TNA gets on Spike. PUREHATRED fears GOD |

Yeah but more of them should probably come up with catchy words to go with their names like The Phenomonal AJ Styles etc

Firstly,TNA is sports entertainment just like WWE, and to be succesful in the sports entertainment industry with a wrestling company you have to have gimmicks that people can relate to/be entertained by. See that key word'entertained'? Personally i think real wrestling sucks and couldn't careless for it.People who say they're entertained by real wrestling are usually just people who are trying to hard to be cool and look like they 'know it all'.That's a fact. Secondly, no one really wanted to watch JBL at first, but then he got shoved down our throats so we had to put up with him, and he's turned good even though i hate him as a person.Hassan and LOD are good gimmicks also. They entertain me. Thirdly, the reason TNA has character development problems is because ultimately Jeff Jarrett will bury them, which prevents them getting over. I haven't heard of him putting one guy over cleanly.AJ Styles could only beat JJ with help, which is retarded. And then he loses the belt so quickly after, that is another thing wrong with TNA. They must have been taking lessons on how to book worse than the WWE. |

Ok then...
The reason TNA sucks so much with the money issues is becasue Vince is really behind the payroll. He's holding the purse strings so TNA can't do crap. Oh and it wouldn't surprise me to find out that this Dixie Carter people are really working for Vince as well. |

Now hold on a minute, even though GODSON is talking out of his ass, he makes a somewhat decent point.
TNA has advertised they are NOT sports entertainment. They are a traditional professional wrestling company with a new age of wrestling style. I don't think they're problem is the fact no one has a gimmick, I think the problem is no one is relatable. I think the current situation with 50 of their roster is funny in that they have a character David Young who's "gimmick" per-say is a jobber. He has won like two matches, and that is incorperated with his storylines. David Young certainly isn't what I would call popular, but he is easly identified by TNA fans. Guys like Alex Shelly, Sonjay Dutt, and most of their under card is that I can't remember any of them winning a match either. They are paraded out in the ring every week to fight AJ Styles or Abyss or whoever and are jobbed off quicker then Funaki, BUT every week they are hyped walking down the ramp as a lagit threat. That is the problem, people don't understand why they should care about a match between let's say Christopher Daniels and Mikey Batts when they know the outcome of the match as soon as they hear who Daniels is fighting. I am not a huge fan of gimmicks, but let's be honest TNA does have their share of gimmicks, or rather not gimmicks because they arn't claiming to be a cop or a garbage man, more like distinctive personalities. You have to watch the show to pick up on 50% of their personalities, and the other 50% is just lost. I do think TNA can make an "iMPACT!" (pardon the pun) in the world of perfessional wrestling. I don't think they can rival WWE on any noticable level, but they can, under right leadership, I believe make a national market for themselves and be profitable. It will take time and a booker who knows what he is doing. I, like GODSON, have alot of faith in D'Amore. NOW, I think with that out of the way I can get to what was originally said on the topic by PMF...I think that would be the smartest thing they could do. Release all the Cassidy Rileys of the company, and even if you bring in one marketable person for every 2 you let go, you still have at least one more marketable person. They will never make a dime off of Jerrelle Clark (even though his finisher is incredible). They need to bring in people who can get blood bolid. AJ Styles didn't become huge going over guys like Apolo, he got big by having some incredible matches with Jerry Lynn and Lo Ki, both of whom have more selling power then either of Phi Delta Slam. They are a small company who isn't signing alot of people to contracts. They tried guys like Trytan, he didn't work out the way their hoped, why keep him around, TNA refuses to admit they are the world's largest indy fed, which isn't a bad thing, great for them for being the "King of the Mountain" in that sense, but like I said Trytan didn't work out as planned, people didn't get behind him like they should have, cut Trytan out now! There is no need to keep him around and continue to pay him when I am sure it wouldn't be that hard to get someone like Eric Angle on your program (plus I just think them promoting an Angle match would be fun). Fuck it why keep 3 or 4 jobbers around when you could bring in Steve Corino, American Dragon, CW Anderson, Ron Waterman, Teddy Hart, Harry Smith, D'Lo Brown, all the newly released WWE talent comming fresh off of INTERNATIONAL television shows. Hell I would rather see at least a known jobber like Gillberg then see another match with a suposed threat in Delirious. |

I think they have plenty of characters to work with and expand on, but the problem I see is that they have no character that will get the casual fans to watch.
I believe they have a lot of characters that could potentially keep the product hot and entertaining for those wrestling fans who do watch the show if the writing/booking team is on the ball. What they lack right now is a guy like Cena, Austin, Hogan and Rock to bring in casual fans. They just do not have that guy and until they do they are going to be stuck getting decent ratings and decent PPV buys. |

The 4-corner survival with Joe, Jack Evans, Ebetaroh & Delirious was the funniest thing I've ever seen. Delirious & Ebawhatever in the ring was the funniest thing in pro wrestling, with both of them going quarter speed off the ropes and the chops. |

Also I don't think TNA needs more luchadors. They brought in Shocker and the crowd is already turning on him

That's because Shocker sucks a royal dick! I don't know how he got so over down in Mexico (he really is over down there for some reason). I swear they had a good thing going with Hector Garza, and TNA assumed if one Mexican guy can get over why not another, and just brought him in to replace him. Blah.

Hector Garza got deported or kicked out of the country because he was caught with proscribed (or unproscribed depending on who you ask) steriods. I do agree that Hector Garza push would have paid off well for TNA as far as keeping the product strong.

I think TNA should have held on to Juvi when they had a chance.........of anyone I think Juvi would make the best addition to the X-Division since he has cred, and can still move in the ring with the best of them...but no, they had to let him slip through their fingures. |
