Garbage Wrestling?

A lot of people like it, even more people seem to hate it.
FMW were the first promotion to be known as a 'garbage wrestling' promotion. ECW could be somewhat defined as one, XPW and CZW have built their reputation on garbage wrestling type matches.

If you like it, why do you like it?

If you don't like it, why don't you like it?

Personally i like it. I was always a fan of the more brutal side of ECW. I purchased as many japanese deathmatch tapes as i could (mostly FMW). Unlike most people i enjoyed XPW and purchased a lot of their DVDs. CZW is the ultimate garbage wrestling promotion. I love it. The most hardcore wrestling you will see ANYWHERE.
Many people think that garbage wrestling is simply 2 untalented guys hitting each other with weapons. It is so much more than that. It has everything a good match has, just done in a more hardcore style.

While I think that you mean well, your sentence there contradicts itself. You first say that it is 'garbage wrestling', and describe it as 'two untalented guys hitting each other with weapons' - then you say it's a good match, but with a more 'hardcore style'.

This "garbage wrestling" is completely different from "hardcore wrestling". Just about everyone confuses the two - but there are MAJOR differences. Jack & Supreme in XPW - THAT is garbage wrestling. Terry Funk and Mick Foley - THAT is hardcore wrestling.

Garbage wrestling is when you have two or more guys of little / no ability hitting each other with shit and doing spots. Hardcore wrestling is when you take two or more talented guys, give them weapons or gimmicks to work with, and they do a match - incorporating what they are given.

Terry Funk, Mick Foley, Public Enemy, etc. were / are hardcore wrestlers. New Jack, Sabu, Homeless Jimmy, etc. are garbage providers [as they're not really wrestlers].

Also, what MVP said

Although XPW and CZW occasionally had/have some great wrestling - they don't compare with ECW at all. CZW has good stuff with Mike Quackenbush (one of the most overlooked and best guys out there), and others - and XPW had good stuff featured with Hamrick, Chetti, Shark Boy, etc. - but ECW had a promotion full of wrestlers [as I mentioned above] who often used gimmicks in their matches; save for Sabu, New Jack and a few others who all they could do was that.

I see your point, i know ECW had that extra spark that made it stand out from the others. It was a far more exciting promotion but you can't deny that the lower and mid-card matches of all 3 promotions are very similiar. Besides, a lot of the ECW guys went to XPW.

It may not be considered a talent but them guys put their bodies on the line, they risk their LIFE every night for the fans and that shows true dedication.
And yes, their is talent involved. In WWE they do a suplex, in CZW they do a suplez through a table wrapped in barbed wire. In WWE they do a power bomb, in CZW they do a power bomb onto light tubes. In WWE......... i could go on forever. 'Garbage' promotions do most things that federations like WWE do but they just add a hardcore style. Trust me, a non-talented wrestler would be booed out of the arena by fans. You do realise that CZW has the best cruiserweights than ANY other promotion?

Why would parents groups use these promotions as examples? They don't. These feds aren't on tv. They only release DVDs.

LOL pretty much agree with everything here. I don't really consider this stuff "wrestling" and I hate the image it brings to that word in the general public.

Too much to quote, so to what everyone else said. And don't get me started on Backyard Wrestling, even worse.

What James Steele said. Individuals like Zandig are a black mark on the entire industry. Anyone can throw themselves through glass sheets and onto thumb-tacks. It's a shame that he's not the most moronic of the garbage wrestling family - Worse are the fans who pay to the watch it. Worse still are the rookie backward wrestlers who think they can become stars by recreating it.

Yeah I know where you're coming from. A big difference is that ECW had a huge influence on wrestling in general toward the late 90's. The Attitude Era probably would've never happened had Shane Douglas didn't throw the NWA title to the ground in 1993. XPW and those other garbage feds have had no influence whatsoever.

That's stupid on so many levels I can't even begin to address it. All I'm saying is that just because someone plays in trafic and then says its 'for the fans' doesn't make the fact the fact that they play in traffic any less stupid. If they were dedicated they'd become better athletes and wouldn't have to get punched in the head with plate glass to make a living.

Face it: most garbage wrestlers are guys that are so shitty that no one would pay good money to watch them unless they were getting hit in the nuts with a weed whacker or some shit.

No. The matches are more along the line of brawl, brawl, brawl, HIGHSPOT, brawl, brawl, HIGHSPOT, brawl...stall for time..HIGHSPOT. There's no psychology and no chain wrestling. In ECW (and really in any good gimmick match) the high-spots are there to accentuate the story within the match. In garbage wrestling the match is done solely to watch someone do something stupid and ridiculous.

Also, TNA has the best cruisers in North America.

Watch 60 minutes or whatever the next time theres a story on how pro wrestling is 'twisting the minds of young America.' The three things they always bring up: 1) the WWE's screwed up and overly sexed storylines, 2) the trailer trash who kill themselves in the backyard wrestling and 3) hardcore or garbage wrestling. they may not call the companies by name, but they always who footage of somebody getting hit in the face with a fluorecent lightbulb.

Garbage wrestling is a black eye on the industry and theres a reason that the only people who watch are usually pseudo-skinheads who still think that ICP is good music.

Thumbtacks to the balls, no. 2 pencils, AND a guy named Brain Damage using a table wrapped in barbed wire??? That IS great wrestling!!!!
