Why weren’t they World Champion?

Take the British Bulldog. In retrospect, the guy had everything it took to be Champion. He was talented and around during a time where there was a desperate need for main eventers (1995) had decent mic skills, he had the look (due to the steroid use… but that’s another topic in itself) and was way over in Europe and Canada. Victim of the Clique or did he not make the most of his WWE/F run?

Who else do you guys think deserved a chance to run with the ball, but for one reason or another weren’t given a fair shake?

My biggest is and will probably always be Davey Boy. Still to this day, the fact that he was never a World Champ in any credible promotion blows my mind.

Other people who shock me in the "why not" department, Roddy Piper. I mean I understand that he (from what I have heard) wasn't much of a team player, nor did he ever hold the promotions best interest at heart, but I mean come the fuck on. He was over mad crazy. I want to say RVD, but at the same time I don't recall a point in time were I actually wanted him to win the title. I know I think he deserves it, but I, for the life of me, can't think of a single time when I thought it was the right time to have him flagship a promotion. And finally, depending on who you ask, I say AWA and USWA are legit World Title, but if you discredit those then I will add in Jerry Lawler and Curt Hennig. But again I think they had their World Title reigns.

I guess you could say the same things about Hogan, but he held the title too many times, and has been around too long so the WWE can't use those excuses for Piper.

Hogan stayed with the WWF from the early 80s all the way up until 1994. That's fourteen years. Piper was accomplishing something when he stayed with the same promotion for fourteen months.

Ted Dibiase - I believe that he never held the title because of a certain guy who wore red and yellow. Wasn't he supposed to win the title at WM 4 but Mr Hogan had a hand in changing the decision so Randy Savage won?

No, that was Honky Tonk Man who through a fit because he was going to drop his IC Title to Savage. So Vince let him keep him, but to keep Savage from getting pissed, Vince booked him to win the Title instead.

Honky's story was that he didn't mind doing the job to Savage, but not at the first Saturday night main event, he wanted a dusty finish and then job it later.

But i agree that he should have just done the job in the first place, then the million dollar man would have held the gold he deserved. Instead to try and keep him happy, they made the million dollar belt.

DiBiase was also meant to get the NWA world title before he went to the WWF.

I think had it not been for Davey Boy getting fired with the Ultimate Warrior for getting caught with steroids and HGH, he would have been next in line for the WWF title. His drawing power outside the States was unreal. As much as I love Bret Hart, he played a very small part in drawing 85,000 at Wembley Stadium for Summerslam 1992. Davey Boy would have drawn that number working with pretty much half of the roster. He was more over in England than I have seen any sports star since (David Beckham might just beat him because of his out of sport interests and his wife).

What about Owen Hart. He was great on the stick, and could go in the ring. Also, Scott Hall could be in the group.

I don't think Owen was ever quite ready to be the World Champ. I think he would have some day gotten there...But I completely agree about Scott Hall...He should have been WCW Champ in my mind. They fucked up alot by not putting him over when they had the chance, he could have made WCW a shit load of money.

I think he COULD have gotten there at some day, but he admits he wasn't planning on wrestling much more. He was wise with money and was looking to retire early. I think he would have done his contract with WWE, and then joined his brother in WCW were he would have won the World Title...but this is all me just assuming shit.

Owen could of been one of the biggest babyfaces of all-time after Survivor Series 97, but he got caught in the era of Austin, so it was just not going to happen. Owen vs HBK was what I was itching to see back then, not HBK vs Austin, but whatever.

The Hot Rod should have been one of the best INC champs of all time, possible WCW world champ.
I think Crush could have been a great singles champion if he was pushed the right way.
The Million Dollar Man should have gotten more than just the million dollar belt
I'm still waiting for Batista to become a legit world champion
Shane/Dean Douglas should have gotten more in WCW and WWE

What keeps everyone down? Me, I'm gonna blame the people in the main events FOR THE MOST PART!
Have you read Ric Flair's book? Not every main eventer is a hitlerish person. From what I heard HBK, Bret Hart, Hogan and Triple H seem to be pricks when it comes to the title. They're all for what's good for them, not what's good for the company.

Booker T will never hold a world title in a credible promotion. I don't count Vince Russo's force fed title victory at Bash at the Beach 2000 either - or any of his subsequent title victories in WCW. Nor do I count the fact that he came into the WWE as the champion.

He deserves to win the title in a big event situation. The man has been in the business for over a decade and has been a regular, consistenly entertaining performer throughout. Only in this past year, as his career winds down, has he shown any signs of burn-out. His matches on RAW in 2001-2003 were phenomenal. If anyone deserves a "trophy" win it's Booker T.

I hate to turn this into a HHH-bash post, but the only chance Booker T ever had of winning the big one on a large scale PPV was at WrestleMania XIX against Triple H. And they fucking blew it.

I'll tell you who should have been World Champion: Repo Man!

seriously, I think Jake "The Snake" Roberts could have had a run. It was probably personal demons that prevented it, but the guy was friggen over. As much as, if not more, over than even Hogan at times.

Another one, and I'm sure I'll catch some flack for it is...

Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Sadly, I can't post a link to my verbalising his name, I think it's kind of funny. Not as good as my Randy Savage impression, but funny nonetheless. Seriously, anyone who can get UK fans to chant "USA" is over, period. Which leads to a cool match right here:

vs.

Nah, I'd like to see how the "God of Wrestling" would react to a huge USA Chant.
