It looks like Coach is staying put.
If you don't like Coach commentating on RAW then you won't be happy to read this, or you just better get use to hearing his voice every Monday.
From WWE.COM RAW gets 'better looking' By David Agostino August 6, 2005 Jonathan Coachman knew it was just a matter of time. After six years with WWE, Coach has finally taken a permanent seat alongside Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler as part of the Monday Night RAW announce team. Coach moved to the main table for Vengeance in June and has been doing RAW with J.R. and The King ever since. “Vince (McMahon) and the producers came to me the day before Vengeance and said I might be doing it,” Coach told WWE.com. “They wanted the broadcast team to get a little younger and a little better looking. But I didn’t know for sure I was in until a few hours before the show.” The short notice hardly bothered Coach, who relishes his current role as a color commentator. After making a few RAW cameos in previous years when Lawler or Ross were unavailable or actually had to wrestle, Coach is now a full-fledged member of the announce team. “The three-man booth wasn’t easy at first, but it’s been more than a month now and it’s getting easier,” Coach said. “I’ve been taking crap from those guys for six years, but now they realize I’m here to stay. I don’t always see eye to eye with J.R., but I think that makes for a good dynamic in the booth.” While Coach claims he’s always prepared, he does admit there’s a different mindset on Monday night when you’re on-air for the entire two hours instead of just a segment or two. “Of course, it’s a different mindset, you have to think about the whole show and what you’re going to say throughout the night,” Coach said. “But I’m just as sharp mentally as I am physically, and when that red light goes on, I’m always ready.” Still, Coach understands there might be some loyal RAW fans that simply don’t like change and consider the Coach’s presence a mere intrusion on their Monday night viewing. “I can’t worry about those fans,” Coach said. “If you’re old school, that’s fine. But change is part of life. If they don’t like me, that’s fine, as long as they watch the show they know I’m going to entertain them. And I still run into people at the airport and at restaurants who say they love me as part of the announce team.” Coach considers himself a big part of WWE’s future, with his latest promotion signaling the start of a new era as well as being a reward for the work he’s already put in. “Wrestling is one of the hardest sports to call,” Coach said. “I’ve done other sports, and those were easy compared to this. But I’m sitting next to one of the legendary play-by-play guys in the business in J.R. and The King is no slouch. We’re making each other better every week.” http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/coach ![]() ![]() |

IMO, having Coach there is much better. Finally someone who agrees with the heels. That's a important piece to wrestling announce teams.

I'd like to know how he feels about it outside his character.
Anyway, I like The Coach. I think this is a good thing. |

Yeah, I actually think that it will be better having 3 guys there, plus I think some things Coach comes out with are hilarious.

King hasn't been playing the heel commentator role well for some time, bringing Coach into the line-up has been a good change.

I'm just glad they didn't try and track down Steve "Mongo" McMichael.

I stick to my "Desert" theory.
He's crappy, but compared to JR, he's a breath of fresh air. Or fresh water after 6 days in the desert with none. |

I don't like the Coach, I don't like his announce style, I don't think he's actually funny, and I don't think he brings anything to the table as far as Raw is concerned. I think having a heel announcer is overrated (Smackdown gets along fine without one) and all the things that pissed me off about JR/King before the Coach joined up - nobody calling the actual match, the announcers selling themselves more than the guys in the ring, miscalling the moves, etc - have actually gotten worse with Coachman there.
But other than that, great news. |

As a geeky heel, Coach is brilliant.
IMO, he adds to the commentary, especially putting over heels. He hasn't hindered the dynamic of JR and King, so I feel he definately adds. Great move. |

It sorta worked for WCW for awhile. Maybe the WWE can make it better.
And maybe I'll actually be able to compleat rehab one of these days. |

I've always been a fan of the Coach but I always hoped he'd eventually become a manager.

He is more of a cheerleader than a manager, which is why I think he is better suited to on color commentary. He is better able to get the heels over.

why it worked at wcw is they had the brain the best heel commentary ever, i think coach is there to help jr out since he lost it.

Wonder what JR and the King think? Seems like JR may be stepping down soon? Anyway, I think this could work real well. Been doing great so far

He's sucked dick for five years and he finally gets his reward - to sit between to a fat Texan and randy old pervert who wears tights three sizes too small and call perhaps some of the worst matches known to man.

...which should be about five years after his death. His new contract with WWE stipulates that even if he dies, the main event of Wrestlemania XXXX should involve him.
The road agents will have to act like puppet masters - holding him up by fishing wire from the rafters, moving his rotten limbs around and defeating Christian Jr with a leg drop. |

And it looks like I'll be looking forward to a SmackDown even more now, just so I can listen to Cole and Tazz actually do a GOOD job at commentating, something that JR/King(/Coach) have forgotten what to do.

I think coach commentating is good, you got JR, who should now focous on being the serious wrestling commentator, then you got Coach who can stick up for the heel, and King who adds a bit of colour
I used to like it when they did Vince, Savege and the king in that sort of way and always thought it worked well, so a return to the three man commentry is refreshing and coach has immproved |

Smackdown > Raw by far.
Raw just doesn't have cohesion of Smackdown. Taz and Michael Cole together is awesome...I love their repotire |
