To Be the Man by Ric Fliehr
I'm pretty much though it, I got about a chapter left. It is a pretty good read. I've heard some people say all he does in that book is bash Foley and Bret Hart, this is untrue. He also bashes Vince Russo, Eric Bischoff, Shane Douglas, and Hulk Hogan. I guess people forget about Flair bashing them because lots of smarks and mark kind of already hate those dudes. But then you also have to remeber Flair has been dicked around more than a lot of workers have and has been misjudge on a number of occasions, so it is no suprise that he takes what Foley and Hart said about him in their books so personally.
It is also over looked that Flair has some pretty nice things to say about a ton of guys from legends like Harley Race, Wahoo, Piper, and Steamboat to newer guy like HHH, Angle, and Jericho. I'm pretty sure he say more positive stuff about other workers than negative stuff. Hell he even says that Russo isn't completely horrible and neither is/was Dusty Rhodes. All in all, it seems like more of a cautionary tale than anything. Flair is basically saying, "Hey all I tried to do is go out there night after night to preform for the fans and give it my all only to get burned repeatedly by the business I help build." |

It is a good great, but I couldn't shake the sense that those weren't Flairs words I was reading. Because is was done with the aid of a ghost writer, its more than likely Flair just spoke briefly into a dictaphone and some poor bastard had to do pretty much all the rest. There's times when I think that those words couldn't possibly be his, and times when I read something that does definately sound like him (and then wonder why the rest doesn't)
Overall, there's some good stuff in there. His dealings with Dusty are particularly enlightening and his references to "simply going through the motions" with Randy Savage made me chuckle. The final chapter is a nice conclusion, so give it a read. It feels like Flair had a much bigger contribution here, and it shows. On a bitter note, his cocksucking of the WWE and all its apparent glory fucks me off too. Its like Foley's second book - trying to convince us all that the WWE is a haven and the backstage is like a big happy family. If you believe that then you'll believe most things. I'm sure Flair's head is too far up HHH's arse, or vice versa on occassions, that Flair can't realise what a shit-hole the backstage areas of raw, and particularly, smackdown must be. |

Yeah, I did get the since of some of it not being Flair's real words and what not.
And as far as the backstage thing goes, I don't know. From what I hear, everyone hated WCW's backstage, so anything looks like heaven compared to that. |

I've been meaning to give Flair's book a read. I've been reading Angle's book that came out a few years ago, and it's really good as well. But I actually just bought it a month ago.

Flair also did nothing but constantly brown nose the boys with power in the WWE i.e. HHH, Michaels, Angle, etc. I used to idolise this man. Now I just think he is a pathetic old bastard, He has just let people piss over a legacy that should have been untouchable and then he refused to fight it so he pissed on it more. Lost so much respect for Flair in the last 3 years its unreal. And as for the content of the book, it's ok. He left out a ton of good stories that could have replaced the pointless "receipts" he is soooo proud of. That would have been a book. Instead, this just shows how bitter he is. At least Dynamite Kid stood up and spoke his mind not caring who he upset. It's better than a lot of the WWE books but certainly not a oatch on Dynamite's. As for comparing it to Mick Foley's... ![]() |

I thought it was trash - a bunch of self obsessive, half assed story telling and bullshit.

Dynamite's is good. Martha Hart's is awesome. Missy Hyatt's is a fun read if you like dirt. Hardys wasn't too bad. |

Nash and Taker need to write books. And Nash better not get a ghost writter, maybe a spotter incase he tears a quad.
