I'm not 100% sure, but I would have to presume around the early 1900s, if not the late 1800s. I do know one main reason for wrestling being "fake" is that to get a legitimate winner, you would often have to sit through LONG periods (some lasting days at a time) of pretty boring action, and that turned a lot of people off to it.

"In the early days of professional wrestling, wrestlers toured the country and took on opponents from the audience. Many of the audience participants were approached beforehand and knew that they were supposed to lose to the star. Well I remember just before the Main event at Vengeance 2001, JR said "We will be crowning the first ever undisputed champion in over 100 years of professional wrestling". I don't know if that covers anything in particular.

I can't remember the specific year, but when wrestling became widely known as a fixed sport was after a drunk reporter read the next nights results over the radio while doing his news report. If that didn't happen, for all we know, we could still be thinking that it's real.
