Biggest Surprises and Flops in Wrestling
Who do you guys think have had the most surprising careers in wrestling and who do you think has been most disappointing?
For me the biggest surprise is HHH. I know he was a part of DX, but I always felt that Shawn sort of carried HHH in the beginning. I remember him in WCW as Jean Paul and thinking he was another William Regal clone gone to hell. But look at him now. Steroids really do work wonders for a career. To me the biggest disappointment is Kane. Not because he sucks, but because the WWE creative team are a bunch of dumb fucks. He was a badass when he first came out, then they made him a face by pairing him with RVD and now they have him unmasked and stalking Lita. WTF? I think he could have been like the Undertaker has been for the last 13 + years if they would have left his gimmick alone. Last edited by roach21; 08-25-2005 at 02:34 PM. |

I'd say the biggest surprise is the Undertaker. He's lasted so long as a "dead man". His character is the furthest from realistic yet he's been doing it for such a long time.

The biggest surprise for me was when the Radicals all showed up on Raw, or possibly when reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champion Mike Awesome showed up on Monday Nitro. |

Biggest Surprise for me was Doink. You tell me that a wrestling clown was gonna be a big draw, and I would have laughed at you.
Biggest Flop was Ahmed Johnson. he was just always injured, and he could have been huge. |

I would say my biggest surprise in wrestling was probably Shane o' Mac. The fucker was doing the most insane shit possible to get himself over, yet he didn't have to do a fucking thing because of who he was.
Biggest flop would be the Invasion angle. I enjoyed it for some of the great matches and skits, but man, Vince had the chance to deliver to wrestling fans some of the greatest shit ever and IMO dropped the fucking ball. |

To me the most suprising would have to be the Hardys. They were nothing more than a house show team for years. It just proves that with the proper gimmick and the right push, anyone could claim the spotlight for a while. The great thing about these guys, is that they payed their dues and when given the chance, they really ran with it and made the tag team division worth watching again. Most disappointing would be Kane. This is really the writers fault, but they were handed pure fucking gold almost 10 years ago with the character. Could you imagine if we still had the Kane that first debuted at the Badd Blood PPV walking around and squashing people today? |

Biggest Surprise: Batista. C'mon, the guy went from being an after thought in the Evolution vs. Rock n' Sock match at WM XX (the crowd went dead silent whenever he was in the ring), to main eventing WM 21 and becoming the most over guy in the company next to Cena.
Biggest Flop: Goldberg in the WWE. |

The Hardy Boyz was the most surprizing and disappointing.
Surprizing I was surprized that it ended up being Matt who would create a marketable gimmick for himself and be on the verge of making it to the top of the card as a singles wrestler. Although, the way he is currently going (in 2005) is very disappointing. Disappointing Jeff Hardy (who was being compared to the next Shawn Michaels) started putting on lack luster performances and usually did not having the desire to perform to his full potential. |

And besides, if they ever want to get Batista out of the main event, they could just have him break hardcore hollys neck.

Why are people bringing up storylines and angles when this was clearly a question about the careers of wrestlers?

Surprises - recently, for me, its probably that One Night Stand was actually a decent PPV and wasn't ruined too much by the WWE and its ego.
Flops - Mordecai. Lol. They built that guy up so much. It's a sad day for a wrestler when the highlight of his career was a PPV match with Scotty 2 Hotty. |

Also, my choices:
Biggest surprise: Honky Tonk Man. Lousy wrestler. Stupid gimmick. One of the most legitimately over heels in the history of the WWF. Biggest flop: Lex Luger. He had the look and the opportunity. Given major pushes in the two biggest companies in North America. Never really reached the level of stardom or got as over with the crowd as was expected. Mainly due to a severe lack of talent and charisma. Kinda reminds me of someone in the current WWE....can't quite think of who.... |

You're right Pepsi Man. My fault. It all tends to blur together as time passes. But back to the topic. Do you guys think Jericho may be coming close to being a dud? It hurts me to say this, but since he became undisputed champion he hasn't done much since. They should have had him kick the hell out of Cena at SS but they didn't and now he's gone for awhile. He's got the ring skills that the WWE lacks, good charisma on the mic, and is a hit with fans as a heel and a face but career wise has nothing to show for it. Just Damn. |

A lot of wrestlers surprised me. Raven is one. I mean, who would've thought the snobby little rich kid, Johnny Polo, would become a sadistic, gothy, NWA heavyweight champion?
Flop-Gangrel. I mean, yeah the guy didn't have the greatest wrestling skills, but he was mad over. Look at Cena now. I mean, they dropped the ball on him. |

Good Question
Biggest surprise: First thing I thought of was Eugene getting over the way he did. Oh and Cena's gimmick just completely took off. Biggest Flop: Ludvig Borga. The guy was suppossed to win the Title, but got injured and was done. |

Surprise: Paul Haymen, c'mon the guy turned a third rate indy permotion into a cult phenomanon
Disapointment: RVD, not compleatly his fault by any means. In 2001 and a little of 2002 he seemed like there was no stopping his rise to the top. He was easily the most over guy in the company. Somehow, for some reason, his push ended and he went on to three years of some of the worst and most predictable matches Ive ever seen. Hopefully upon his return he will redeem his self. I belive he has the ability, but I dont belive creative sees that. |

i always wonder just how hte hell batista rose so fast in such a short time period. i stopped waching raw in about October (because i couldn't watch it) and Batista was just simply a big hoss...two months later, he's the integral part of the elimination chamber, and a month later, he wins the rumble...WTF, and is the most over guy in the company. incredible |

Biggest Surprise: Eugene, Doink the Clown, Batista
Biggest Flop: Looking back on it, I have no idea why, but I used to love lex luger sooo much! He should have been WWF champ @ mania (not yoko), but because he's a dick he screwed it up 4 himself. Tatanka was also a flop I think. he was a huge babyface, joined the million dollar corporation and went heel...then just dissapeared...he was such a massive heel @ that time. Ted Debiasse - he still had a lot left in him in the WWF b4 he retired. However, health wise, it was prolly 4 the best. |

Biggest Surprise: Sean Waltman in TNA. He has really turned himself around and has been having great matches and really doing stuff. He's the only guy that's "surprised" me. I suppose Batista could be included as a surprise, and Ken Kennedy as well. From the moment he debuted as Ken Anderson, I was a Fanderson.
Biggest Flop: Val Venis. This guy has the talent, the charisma and the experience to be a megastar, yet they can't even give him a win on RAW. Kane comes in a close second. The guy could be HUGE.
