Hey, remeber when Bubba Rey Dudley was fueding with HHH?

Honestly, what was that about. No one in their right mind thought Bubba could beat HHH, even with HHH backstage clout withstanding.

WWF/E has always done this, though. They take fans' desire to see someone "new" at the top, and throw a mid-card jobber into the main event for a couple of weeks, squash them, then let the same old guys run the show.

It happened with the Patriot in '96. Most WWF fans didn't even know who he was, but because the top heel was a Canadian, a guy in a red-white-and-blue mask HAD to get over, right? Wrong. Within a month, Bret was back to feuding with the Austins, Michaelses, and Shamrocks of the day.

It happened with Bubba Ray and Bradshaw right after the brand extension. Two tag-team specialists with moderate charisma but lacking the necessary skill to carry a main-event feud get thrown in with the Triple Hs and Austins, the fans don't buy it, and they reunite with their tag partners within a couple of months.

It's happening with Holly now. They think that because the current WWE Champion was the one who put him on the shelf, fans will get behind him when he goes for revenge. The sad truth is, Holly is not all that talented (at least, not since he bulked up in the late-'90s), and no one honestly believes he can beat Brock. Not only is he not a "new star" being created, he's damaging one of the legit new stars they DO have by making Brock pretend to be afraid of a middle-aged, balding, garbage wrestler.

I actually enjoy when the WWE does something like this. It gives you something fresh to watch for a little while instead of seeing the same top guys feuding all the time. But I can't stand Holly right now, so I hope Lesner puts him away for good at the Rumble.

I thought what they were doing with Holly was "feeding" him to Lesnar, not trying to make a new star..

Yeah, but they have been building him up so it makes the casual fan believe that Holly might actually have a shot at beating Brock. After Brock beats his ass, he'll drift back down to the midcards.

I think it's a good idea to push someone to the top even if it is for just a few weeks. I would drool over a Tajiri/Triple H feud.

They are invariably feeding him to Lesnar, but there's a problem here.

He's taken out Big Show. He's got Brock running scared. He's pounded on Brock enough that it looks like a major push.

Then he's gonna get creamed and disappear. It wastes energy, it gets fans behind someone who'll be gone after the rumble...

This kind of reminds me of when Bret was champ in the early-mid 90's and they would put him in feuds with guys like Hakushi, Pierre Lafiete(sp), Doink and other mid carders. The feud would last for like a month, then they would have thier match and Bret would win. I like when they do stuff like this cause it's just something fresh. And Eventhough I despise Holly, they have done one hell of a job building the feud up and making the casual fan believe that maybe Holly might have a chance. They did the same thing last Feb with Brock and Cena, although it worked better because Brock was babyface and Cena was heel.

I remember when Jeff hardy was fed to Triple H and he beat him a couple of years back. I think he won the IC title off him in that match. Either way, I loved that match. When they feed the right midcarders to main eventers, then they can be bought as "new stars." Good examples today are John Cena and Randy Orton.

John Cena was gonna be huge with or without being "fed" to Brock.

Orton's huge because he's hanging arounf Flair and HHH and getting a push by association.

Well you kind of answered your own question in that different feuds keep wrestling fresh, at least to me it does. I like to see different guys, eventhough they might suck, get title shots or just get a chance to shine. I was probably the only one that liked it a couple of months ago when Mark Henry got a shot at Goldberg. I don't know, I just like to see different matches instead of the Kurt-Brock or Benoit-Brock or HHH-Michaels, HHH-Goldberg all the time. But what it should be right now is Guerrero-Brock if they were going to change it up a little.

So different guys doing the same thing are better than fresh angles, even if they might have the same guys in 'em?

Well then it would depend on the angle. If I had to pick between whats going now between Holly and Brock or the "Katie Vick" angle between Kane and HHH, I would certainly go with the first. And thats just throwing something off the top of my head. But if it were a Great angle with the same guys, like Hart-Michaels in the Canada vs USA wars, then I would pick that over a Holly-Brock kind of thing. But they are also doing a "fresh" thing with Angle and Guerrero right now too. I am presuming Angle is going to turn heel and he and Eddie will start a feud. That is something I definately want to see.

You know, polar arguments like that are pretty one-sided. They sure are easy to win, but they're really not all that useful for determining information.

saying "I'd rather watch Crash Holly than HHH fuck a corpse" is much akin to "I'd rather eat Lima Beans than have a hole drilled into my stomach on a nightly basis."

You mean you'd rather watch a poor and overdone storyline than the one that sticks out in everyone's mind as the WORST angle in the last few years?

No offense, but:

Well No Shit!

My point here is that this is kinda a poor indication on how much or little you like it.

Quite frankly, I'd be happier with fresh angles than the usual "build a guy up for one month, drop him like a sack of shit the night after the PPV" deal. This isn't really new, with the exception of some rather superficial details. The Angle angle's okay, but has been a bit predictable too. It has the upside of not being a total cliché at this point though, so it gets more benefit of the doubt here.

The Brock-Holly thing is the sort of thing you always see as filler when they don't have a real storyline to cook up. The only real and significant difference here is that they have a slight reason to build this one up...After all, Holly had his neck broken. Still, it's a bandaid over a sucking chest wound.

I'd like to see fresh people come up to the main event. just...Not like this. This sorta "elevate 'em only to drop 'em" deal is a temporary fix, at best. It's like taking caffeine to stay awake. Short run, good. long run, no good. The problem is, they've used caffeine on me so much it's no longer effective...

Yeah I just used those examples cause I had to run and I threw them off the top of my head. I was just using an example of a new storyline, although a bad one, with the same guys. That's all. But I have no problem with temporary fixes at all because like I said before I enjoy seeing other wreslters get a shot. Like someone else mentioned before abour Hardy and Taker, I thought that was great and when they had that ladder match on Raw, I actually believed for a moment, although a very very brief moment, that Hardy might pull it off. I guess I guess maybe I just long for those upsets, that usually never occur, when you have those kind of feuds.
