It's his fault!

Yeah, I bet you thought this was a Snitsky thread.

Okay, who is really to blame for the lackluster WWE product? Let’s take a look at the suspects…

The writers- Ahh, the people who create the story line need to harbor some blame. Can it be the fact that we’re getting the same recycled crap week in and week out that is taking the edge off of wrestling?

The bookers- Of course these people need some credit for the lack of entertainment. They decide who wins and who loses. They can overturn what a writer says for better or (usually) for worse. Doesn’t that just suck?

The wrestlers- We’re sick of seeing the same four basic moves. Mix it up a bit, will ya? I would love to see The Big Show use a hanging vertical suplex, or possibly a head vice. Really see the “overwhelming power” of The Big Show. Eddie lies, steals, and CHEATS, so let Eddie hook a guy up for a neckbreaker and then a nice little back kick to the balls of who he’s fighting. The ref can’t see it, so it can’t be a DQ.

Triple H- 10 bucks says within 6 months of his return he goes for the title. He’s an egotrip with a sledge hammer who really needs to be Hassan’d. He’s a great wrestler, not the best on the mic, but his backstage powers are hurting the company.

Vince- Let’s just cut the head off the snake. Go for the heart of the issue. Vince is letting all of this crap happen. He knows the shape of his company better than anyone else. He knows how he got to the Attitude era, so he should be able to fix it, right? Of course right!

Society- Is wrestling just a recurring trend much like bell bottoms (well, flared pant legs, whatever you want to call them) and music from two decades ago? At the end of the 19th century wrestling was on a boom period, and at the end of the 20th wrestling was at a boom period. Do we need to wait until 2094 for wrestling to spike again? And looking at John Cena as a good guy and Hassan as a bad guy is that just a reflection of what people want?

The fans- We are enablers. We’re not stopping the show anytime soon. Why? For me wrestling has a certain sentimental value. During the attitude era it was the only thing my older brother and I had in common, alongside the peak of Hulkamania. Every fan will have their own story to tell about why they’re still a fan. Addiction? Nothing better to do? So they have something to make fun of? Trying to fit in? Trying to be different? We, as fans, are the enablers… but the thing is fans aren’t as bad as the next group.

The internet community- It pains me to say this, but Lesnar may have been on to something. People are curious creatures. We want to know what’s going to happen on a show we’re going to make fun of. The people who get the SmackDown spoilers and somehow know what’s going to happen at the next show don’t force you to find out what’s going to happen, but the internet really opened up the Pandora’s box. Just replace all of the world’s evils with the WWE’s secrets, and that ray of hope with the fans who still believe it’s real.

Me? I believe is a combination of things, but you can only pin the blame on one.

You can't blame the wrestlers too much. Their moveset is dictated by management. Just ask Paul London.

I actually think this has been a good year for the WWE, but ultimatly Vince is to blame, as he runs the show.

Writers and Bookers.
Why are we having guys like Kurt Angle, HBK and RVD fueding with guys like Cena, Carlito and Masters.
Why don't the WWE care about putting on good matches?

That's because it could be made into something amazing. I think it could be made into the greatest title right behind the WWE/World heavyweight title. Get rid of 24/7 and jobbers fighting for it and make every title match like an ECW main event.

Regardless of an individuals fuck up, he hires the people he wants in the specific area's, if he made a mistake and hired the wrong person and they didn't get the job done it falls back to Vince

Though I would put semi-blame on other areas (Internet, maybe society)

How can you blame the fans? If we all turned off, the WWE wouldn't be making a profit and would probably cease to be. If anything the fans deserve an award for keeping the fucking WWE alive more than anyone!

At the end of the day, the WWE is a business. When a business goes bust, the board don't sit round their table and say 'well, it's our consumers' fault that our turnover was shit'. The people who produce the goods, namely the show, are to blame for not gauging what their audience wants and providing that. Whether this be the writers, bookers or management.

You can't blame the wrestlers for the same reason. A bankrupt company can't blame the employees because they are under orders from management to complete specific tasks and work towards community goals. The supervisors who direct the subordinates are to blame

I explained this theory in a previous thread: By supporting a bad product we encourage the company to continue producing it. If you bought a DVD player and it broke and you knew a company made a crappy DVD player, why would you buy another? You wouldn't. You would give up on the brand entirely. Sure we're all fans, but at what point do you just give up and say, they don't get it. Some of us won't turn the tv off, some of us will. I hadn't watched smackdown in 2 years before last month because it sucked.

The point is, we can complain on our Wrestling frums, send threatening e-mails to McMahon, but our dollars not being in their pockets is the most clearly understood language of all

I'm aware of this and I don't need it explained to me like I'm an idiot. This is basically what Kane Knight says everytime someone moans about the product - "watch what you like, turn off what you don't"

My point is that the fans aren't the blame. I don't think we're even the slightest bit responsible. Millions have switched off since the attitude heyday, and the WWE might have recognised this trend but it is their job also to do something different to recapture the audience. Instead, they're rehashing old storylines (how many authority VS subordinate feuds do we need in a year) and recreating old characters (always trying to push through the next Rock or Austin. How about someone completely new?)

The hardcore fans who have stuck with the product deserve medals. At times during Raw it feels like a chore because its so painful. It's up to the writers and bookers to say to themselves 'right, we're still losing thousands from our viewing figures every week and we're down millions every financial quarter compared to last year and the year before (which is very, very true) we need to do something radical and completely overhaul our product just like we did in 1997 with the Attitude era.'
