Ugh...I don't get the problem with it (Warrior DVD related)

I can't find the thread that we started about the Warrior DVD that the WWE did, but I was watching the download of the program, and I had understood everything that they were saying...UNTIL it got to his debut in WCW, and for the life of me I cannot understand the problem behind what happened during that promo.

In case you're wondering, and call me stupid for not getting this if you must but I cannot grasp this, but it was when the Warrior came out to the nWo, and Warrior basically said that the one person that Hogan couldn't beat was the Warrior (which Hogan dropped the belt to at WM6, obviously).

Hogan on the documentry said that was the biggest no-no in the industry, and everyone was acting as though it was the worst thing that he could've done.

I was asking myself: WHY?

First of all, the Warrior's remarks could've sold tickets for that Halloween Havoc 98 match because people may want to see Warrior beat Hogan again, meaning that the nWo's "power" may be taken down and WCW would've had momentum again in the storyline (because Hogan had went over so many people before then, and then right afterwards, and dominated WCW during the nWo angle). So why the hell would they NOT want to promote something like that that way? And still, what was so terrible about this that everything just blew up in WCW's face with that one promo? I'm TRYING to see it in all sorts of ways, but I keep failing to see it their way, simpily because I cannot see why they WOULDN'T want to sell a match between two icons in that form.

Maybe someone can clear this up for me. I can see him getting blasted for demanding money, not showing up where advertised and all of that, but saying that he ruined an angle with something that they probably SHOULD'VE used in the first place to sell the match? Just not seeing it.

Hogan was hoping that everyone was 3 month rule'd on that.

I didn't see what the problem was with him saying THAt per say. The bigger problem was that he just rambled on and on and on, and basically drained the life out of the segment. Basically it looks like his rambling more or less lost the fans.

He did that in the WWE all the time, though. I get what you're saying, and I do agree that people would not have that long of attention spans. But that wasn't the first time the Warrior rambled like that. I don't think it was just that that they were pissed about.

I was actually wondering the same thing. He was only relating their rivalry to a time that the fans would remember. I say it was good marketing.

I say it was a good idea too, but then again, when you're desperately trying to make someone look bad - you can take any situation and turn it into a bad one. I'm assuming they don't really explain it, so I guess we should just do what it is WWE wants us to do with this piece of crap DVD - take THEIR word for it.

yea, it's not something you want to say because:

Warrior was a babyface. Hogan was the heel. A babyface is NEVER suppossed to look like the guy who has the POWER over the heel. That one sentence made Hogan look like the underdog to the Warrior. Top Heels who are underdogs does not work or sell. It's just ass backwards in the wrestling world.. Fans PAY to see the babyface over come and FINALLY be able to get that win over the top heel of the company. Basically Warrior's statement was saying to everyone

"I beat Hulk Hogan already, so why should I even have to fight him?" Who looks more like the heel there?

That's why. If the roles were reversed, it would of worked.

The entire fued was about Warrior playing mindgames with Hogan, though. It wasn't just that one thing the Warrior said...there was obviously writers backing up that sort of train of thought, since Warrior kept fucking with the NWO.

That's how I remember it, anyway. It's been a long time, obviously.

Actually, in the context the Warrior was saying it in, it shouldn't have been taken as a 'cocky' babyface thing - more of a, "Hey, I beat Hogan once and even though he's beat everyone in the company, he hasn't beaten me. Why doesn't he come get him some?", kind of thing.

Making Warrior seem like the guy who could potentially save wCw from the nWo. Something that really never occured - considering the nWo basically imploded upon itself, making wCw look like 2 cents. There were several ways that wCw could have played off the angle with the two of them (even with Warrior's "no no" comments), but it was rushed into and out of, and it was totally off track with guys like Beefcake involved in it.

History's written by the victor.

And since History's on the side of the guy who made the DVD, and they decided to make him look bad, this is a good place to do it.
