Austins first match in 2.5 years against... (raw spoilers)
...coach???
![]() Does anyone else find this weird? They should have made his first match since Wrestlemania 19 a bigger one. They lost huge marketing potential since they could have kept repeating "this will be his first match in 2 and a half years" to promote a huge match. I mean they can still do it with coach, but who would care. It would be like saying "Micheal Jordon has been training for years and is finally coming back... to join a high school basketball team" I know a lot of you don't like Austin, and I don't like him that much either but this is a real stupid move by the WWE. |

Yup. Anyone think Austin will loose the match? Doubtful to be sure, but I would mark the fuck out if Coach came off with the victory.

if austin really is going to be facing hogan next (which I know may not be true) then it would be pretty stupid to have him put over coach, who isn't even a wrestler

I thought Austin physiaclly was unable to wrestle now.
None the less i think it would really Suck if your First Match in 2 and a Half years was Jobbing to the Coach. |

Here's something I don't get:
1 - If Austin's job is as easily discarded as losing a match, why the fuck didn't they fire HIM, seeing as how he was the one that stunned them all at Homecoming. Why was JR ever brought into it if firing Austin was an option. 2 - Why was Stephanie smiling at this great idea, when Austin is blatantly better than Coach, with the possibility of having Austin and JR in the fold in the event of the obvious outcome? Conceivably, she has a plan, it makes no sense to try and sell a pay-per-view on the premise that the face will get screwed over. Just a terribly booked situation, especially seeing as how the big money is in seeing the Austin Vs. Hogan match at Mania... |

You guys amaze me sometimes. Quit being moronic.
It's just gonna be a run-of-the-mill "overcoming the odds" match for Austin with shitloads of interference. |

It's going to be bait and switch.
And anyway, they've been letting us down since they came to USA, why should this be different. |

Austin could turn heel and lose on purpose in a swerve?
Austin vs Hogan with Austin as the bad guy would make some sense. The planning for Austin vs. Hogan should start soon if they are going to sell it for WM. |

"It was a very heel move. Instead of attacking you head on we attach you're family. In this case Good Ol JR. (As it is well documented the are very close.) They are attacking Austin through JR."
But it isn't put across like that - it is pushed as someone was fired because of what Austin did. And now Austin is in a match where is he loses he's fired. It's not being pushed as hurting Austin through JR. "Its TV, they do that shit in movies all the time. Foreshadowing if you will. And the situation hasn't played out yet so I'm not going to call it bad booking just so soon. Any way Steph would haft to have a plan if she booked COACH vs Austin. Its an obvious mismatch, why not make it blatant that she has a plan? Clearly there is no other reason for her doing this." This isn't the movies - and I will call it bad booking - it's so sloppy that Austin's job is on the line, when the whole reason they were pissed is because of what he did, but they didn't fire him. Taboo Tuesday's buyrate would be the same if Austin's job wasn't on the line, so the fuck up is unnecessary. The thing is - they haven't got the fans money yet, so it's dumb because "overcoming the odds" isn't happening yet. Why the situation is set up as it is from a storyline perspective won't be known until the pay-per-view, so it isn't an overcome the odds story it's a "this looks like it's easy, so Austin will be screwed" story, so why should people buy it? Saying it's overcoming the odds is stupid, it's like saying that Lucas thought people would see Star Wars to see how Luke Skywalker reacted to Vader being his dad, when they wouldn't have known unless they went to begin with (dumb analogy, but you see the point I'm getting at). It's sloppily done, overbooked, and makes little of any sense. Reeks of hotshotting. |

His job is on the line, most likely helping to ensure a win...Even though wrestling Coach should be enough. Likely this will be a bait and switch scenario in which Austin gets screwed, and lashes out a McMahon, so even if he wins, he loses. They will then string it out further, using JR as leverage. |

Well, first, it could be some sort of handicap match( fans vote on who coaches partner is) but I doubt it.
I was saying the same thing though. It makes no sense for them to book this match and act like Coach is any kind of a threat. So I'm expecting something nonsensical, ala, they introduce "The Coach" Brock Lesnar... Yeah... Or something. |

Austin joined in December of 95...
Even that thoery though, of heels lying about stips, because it is asking people to buy the show based on what ISN'T there. It's so unnecessary to have Austin's career up...even doing this match is pathetic, a waste of Austin's in-ring return. I Want Viral could book this better. |

What makes people buy the show is Austin has a match. Every Austin mark will most likely jump at this opportunity to see him, irrelevent of the angle or build up. i.e. Hogan.

I don't see the problem. It being Austin's first match back is what will make this a big deal, even if it's some stupid shit against The Coach. Meanwhile, if he ever has a big marketable match again after this, you kind of get that "first match back" feeling yet again, as now everyone wants to see him in a "real" match.
I think it makes sense in the same way that his first match back in 2003 being against Eric Bischoff did, or his first Pay-Per-View match back after being "run over" was against Rikishi. |

Am I the only one who gets the feeling that Hulk Hogan could turn heel and screw Austin. (and if that ain't enough he could say he wanted to face Austin, and that this was the only way. With Austin replying you could have just asked.........Yes it's a rehash of HBK V Hogan)
Although a Mcmahon/Hogan team could be interesting......Remember I did not say for how long, but it could be interesting. |

Your an idiot if you don't think others (Shane, Vince and the rest) will interfere during the match. The outcome is still up in the air. I'd have to go with Austin winning despite overwhelming odds. Only because I don't see any point of Austin being fired and JR staying fired in the angle. Unless its just a chance for the WWE fanbase to see Austin in ring again to make money.
It will be nice to see Austin wrestling again. He seems to be trying to ressurect the old Austin from the Attitude era. Except for the stupid "Booyah" comments. |
