problem with loading up a game

So I've just recently bought Homeworld 2, and I've installed it on to my computer, but for some reason it won't play.

I'll double click it's symbol on my deskstop, or i'll press "play" on the CD option screen, but the same thing happens every time. The screen goes black as if its starting up and then immediately goes back to my desktop. I've reinstalled it just case something went wrong while installing it the first time round, but this hasn't done anything. I've messed around with the screen resolution just in case it was that which was stopping it from playing, but that did nothing.

My processor, drive space and RAM are more than enough for the game, so I don't know what the problem is.

Any suggestions?
