I believe the story goes.

At some WWE event (No Mercy?) Jarrett wasn't under contract, but agreed to do the show for vince and do the job to Chyna (in the kitchen sink match I think) He then went back on his word at the last minute and demanded more money.

Pretty sure that's how it went?

But what makes the fact that he wanted more cash an issue is he was the IC champion at the time.

its the WWE's fault for letting his contract expire while he was champ. Good for him shafting them for more money!

As i understand it i think he screwed Vince for like $500,000!!!

At least he didn't do a Warrior and wait till 5 mins before his match!

But in this case I can't fully blame JJ, they shouldn't of let the contract expire if he was champ, they could of jobbed it off on a Raw, surely they must of known it was coming!

Also the next night JJ cut a promo on Nitro about the WWE that didn't put the WWE in the best light.

From what I remember, Jarrett went into No Mercy the IC Champ to wrestle Chyna, and was set to lose and leave the company. Except his contract expired on the Saturday, not Sunday. So Jarrett, from the position of power, basically charged Vince what is believed was $150,000 for a one day contract extension, so he could drop the belt to Chyna. Score one for the boys.

It's like suing Wal-Mart. They don't take a hit, you've fucked your friends, and in this case, you dick yourself.

Of course, in JJ's case, he probably had no friends, didn't care where the cash came from, and felt like sticking it to the man would benefit him. He scored one for no-one but himself.

I also thought the whole Austin/Jarrett thing being scrapped also had something to do with it.

It was official called a 'Good Housekeeping Match' and was the climax to his sexist gimmick. The gimmick was kinda good... the match was not

The match wasn't a complete wash.

The 90 day clause was actually in effect during the days of WCW, just that everybody ignored them because the business was hot and it was thought that courts would deem it an unreasonable clause when there was a lot of money to be made, so the violations were never challenged.

I'm not sure of the sum of Jarrett's asking for the match, but there was a house show the previous night at which point, WWE could have had Jarrett drop the title. Also, Jarrett didn't exactly "stick up" the company from what I heard. Rather, he asked for money he believed should've been coming to him (PPV royalties, merchandising, etc.) in the future, as well as a fee for that date, his name usage. These bonuses didn't exactly come around as they should have if you jumped ship.

Anyway, I don't think it's that huge of a deal. I doubt Vince really lost any sleep or holds any real grudge over Jarrett. Vince didn't put his foot down when Jarrett/Austin was scheduled (which Austin's main reason for was that Jerry had given him some lousy paydays in Memphis) Vince booked the match in advance knowing when Jarrett's contract was up and could've done things differently. Jarrett simply set a few rules... the ball was still in McMahon's possession the entire time.

Oh, and you don't think WCW would've given Jarrett a fat paycheck to show up unbeaten as IC Champ?
