You need a sound DRIVER.
Try going on the Windows Update site and scan. The driver for your sound card should be in the list somewhere. |

Okay so here's the thing. When I connect something into my USB ports, they respond, but nothing is detected and they don'y do what they're supposed to. Example: When I plug my iPod into the computer, the screen turns on, but it doesn't charge or show up on the computer. Any ideas as to what's wrong?

You reformatted your laptop right? Well it sounds like you lost your motherboard drivers. That would explain the loss of the on board sound and the USB. Go to the makers website, find your computer, and download all the drivers they have.
