In light of the recent PPV buy rates

After seeing the pretty poor PPV buy rates for PPV's like No Mercy and Taboo Toooosday, do you think that the amount of PPV's should be cut down, or maybe have the lesser event's like No Mercy and Unforgiven, shown on the brands respected channel, USA/UPN, like the way Sky Sports shows a number of PPV's on normal Sky Sports here in the U.K.

The reason there are like, what 14 PPV's a year now? Is because of the whole WWF/WCW wars, but why the need for so many now (obviously there were 12 PPV's a year back then). But before then there we're like 6/8 PPV's a year. With less PPV's, there would be bigger gaps between PPV's giving more time for fueds and storylines to progress, and also not get the viewers spending like £15 or .... dollars on sometimes two PPV's a month, which people aren't doing.

I say sign with NBC (in the states) and have them use their obligated (or guaranteed, not sure which) 2 specials be the extra PPVs.

If USA (I know UPN does) has a thing like this they could do two specials a year for each, bringing it up to 4 extra big events and use the NBC slots as interbrand specials, bringing it up to 16 big events.

Or just bring back Clash of the Champions every few months...

I agree, I believe there are too many PPV's and too many that we could do without. I really don't want to see a Smackdown only PPV. Matches are thrown together at the last minute because there's not time to build up a PPV. They've gotten to the point that the event is really no different from the cable show other than Title changes. I haven't bought a paper view in years because they really mean nothing now a days. If you have 6 imagine how big they would be.

8 shows.

They should have 8. The big four, and two brand specific. If they merge the brands, they probably don't even need that.

One a month always worked well. If you think 14 was bad, wait till next year - there are apparently 16 pencilled in.

The word 'overkill' comes to mind.

I still think that if they gave the PPVs themes, then they would feel more special.

New Year's Revolution has the Elimination Chamber. The Royal Rumble has the Royal Rumble Match. No Way Out is a solid enough event, if they have storylines begin and really take course there. If not, it feels like they're sleep walking through it.

WrestleMania is fine as it is. Backlash usually does well, so I would leave it as it is. Judgment Day could use a theme. Maybe Hell in a Cell? June can be ECW, or a special past-themed event. Maybe have a "Brand of Origin" event, much like the "State of Origin" in Australia, where all the wrestlers return to the brand they were originally drafted into, and the matches take place accordingly.

For Vengeance, I'd have some kind of "Lethal Lottery" theme, where all the matches are generated randomly. The Great American Bash could be the same, but on SmackDown!. Summerslam is Summerslam. Unforgiven could be the time for a clusterfuck. Just throw six guys into an Elimination match or something. Hell, bring back World War III. No Mercy can be used the same way. Taboo Tuesday should be interpromotional, and we should be like the other two events. Survivor Series is Survivor Series and Armageddon can just do something like 3 Stages of Hell between two guys.

The "more superstars" theory is bullshit IMO. Before, when they had 12 PPV's a year, they also had 7 to 8 matches per PPV. Now, they might have five. Sure, the split roster gives a better chance to appear, but if you have half as many matches, then it's really the same thing.

Increase the quality of the PPV's and you'll get better buy rates (assuming you do it consistently). It's that simple.

The PPV's suck. Promoting pointless matches like Bischoff vs. Long, giving airtime to pieces of shit like The Boogeyman, and not allowing the PPVs to have more than 6 matches is seriously hurting them.

I've recently begun to only order TNA PPV's. I find that I feel very let down after ordering 80-90% of WWE PPV's, and after ordering only two TNA PPV's (Bound for Glory and Genesis) I haven't felt let down yet.

The only PPV that really means anything to me anymore is Mania. And even that one is starting to sink with be worth a dam anymore. Nothing feels special at all now and days. It's just another show. Just like I'm watching a 3hr Raw/Smackdown. I don't really care about the feuds or who wins or who is champion. Sure PPV's may have "better" matches then Raw, but I see great matches all the time. Do I really feel like I'm missing something by not ordering a PPV? Hell no. I don't even look at the live PPV results from websites that much anymore. Everything is just the same thing over and over again.

I guess. It seems like the PPVs just don't feel special anymore. I remember even during the low points of WWF before Attitude Era...at least the PPVs had some meaning. Now like LC said, it's a 3 hr Raw/Smackdown.

WM's been more special over the past few years. In the lasst few years, my PPV purchasing has decreased GREATLy. I used to order 6+ a hear, then it was down to the big four, then the Rumble and Wrestlemana. I could afford more if I wanted to, but the thing is, I don't want to. Even the last couple of yearsm WM has taken it a step up from the normal PPV/wrestling.

I agree with the WWE not using their time wisely, either. Put all the guys you can on PPV. Instead of Bischoff vs. Long (which wasn't even built-up really) you could have put on a Cruiserweight Battle Royal or something.

Survivor Series would have been the perfect time to bring back the classic SS format, too. You want more PPVs to make more money and gives guys exposure, put them in 4 vs. 4 matches, with the main event being the "RAW vs. SmackDown!" 5 vs. 5 Match.
