Discussion: Another Monday Night War, another big #1 company...

I'm not saying TNA will be the company to have a Monday Night War with WWE in the future, or the big #1 company to compete with WWE and trade victories...however, I'm not leaving them out of the equation either--who knows maybe in three years from now.

One thing I've noticed though is that some say there will never be a Monday Night War again between two wrestling companies, or there will never be another company again to defeat WWE in the ratings or compete in cut throat fashion. Personally, I think that's b/s. The reason why is because the market for wrestling is too big for one company to satisfy everyone. There will naturally always be another new company that's aiming for the top.

With regard to KK's post on perhaps technology being a reason why wrestling isn't as big anymore...I truly believe there will never be a booming point until there is another company that's big too and competing with WWE (obviously, TNA is currently far from a threat). The Hulkamania time still had the NWA in the south doing great with Ric Flair - even though they weren't like directly competing.

I'm not sure if a Monday night war is a necessity. In fact, if I were a competing company, I'd honestly probably try to AVOID direct competition in that manner. Competing for PPV buys and ticket sales is one thing, but why compete for the same viewers when those viewers would most likely have no problem watching both shows provided they were on different nights of the week?

Well yes, that can be debated...but then again, I think the Monday Night Wars proved one thing - your viewership actually increases.

I can see where some say it's a bad thing, but imo, the positives far outweight the negatives.

Viewership increased because the products improved, and both companies went out and marketed more and fought for more fans. Those same increases could exist in a situation where a Monday night war was not going on, and therefore both companies would benefit more from the extra fans.

I think the odd are very slim, but I think the survival of wrestling as viable entertainment depends on some sort of competition on a large scale.

I don't think TNA's serious enough to be competition. Others might do it, if they come along, but I kind of wonder if TNA's the last hurrah for competition.

Before, during, and after the ratings war I've been loyal to WWE. Always have, and chances are always will. I LOVED watching Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro as they each tried to out do each other, however I think Ted Turner putting Nitro on Monday was a grave error... He ALMOST beat the WWE... But damn it, this is Vincent Kennedy McMahon we're talking about! No one can beat Mr. McMahon at his own game. It's what he was born to do.
However, I think Jeff Jarrett has a shot to at least hold his own... Now if TNA can get WCW's budget and TNA doesn't show anything on Monday or Friday then I'm sure the wrestling world will be in for a huge treat.
And if that doesn't happen over night, let's just hope TNA grows and when they get big enough they avoid the same mistakes WCW made.
