Arrow Telltale Games picking up where LucasArts left off with Sam and Max

Yeah, so I've been reading around lately for someone - anyone - to have some news on any adventure style game so I can get my goddamned fix and in my blind quest, I found out that Sam and Max 2 (which was abandoned by LucasArts, along with Full Throttle 2), was actually picked up by games developer Telltale Games, which is primarily a bunch of ex-LucasArtsers anyway.

Here's an FAQ about the game from the site (http://www.telltalegames.com/sam_and_max):

>> What is the nature of Telltale’s relationship with Steve Purcell and Sam & Max?
Telltale has reached an agreement with Steve Purcell to take Sam & Max forward into the 21st century with a series of new releases. This agreement is wide ranging, so you will likely see content in expected (interactive PC game in 2006) and un-expected places (a garish tattoo on Grandma’s neck?)
>> What will Steve Purcell’s role be in the projects?
Telltale will work in close collaboration with Steve on the Sam & Max releases. Sam & Max are very near and dear to Steve, so he will be very involved in the projects. Although he has a “real” job Steve feels a deep moral obligation to see to it that only the highest quality Sam & Max crap be dispersed into society in an effort to confuse and alarm our most impressionable young citizens.
>> Will games be episodic?
You will certainly see a series of episodic PC games. Sam & Max will likely appear in other places as well. Perhaps in entertainment formats not yet imagined by our fragile little brains. Perhaps, … Circle-vision!… Or not.
>> Will Telltale’s game be based on the cancelled Sam & Max Freelance Police game?
Cancelled Sam & Max Freelance Police game? What cancelled Sam & Max Freelance Police game?
>> What’s the history of the Telltale team with Steve Purcell?
Much of the team from LucasArts’ Sam & Max Freelance Police are now at Telltale. Telltale CEO Dan Connors had been the producer for Freelance Police, CTO Kevin Bruner had been the programming lead and Creative Director Graham Annable had been the lead animator. Ties between Telltale staffers and Steve go way back to the time when Steve worked in the Art Department at LucasArts. Dan was involved with LucasArts’ Sam and Max Hit the Road and Steve even taught Dan how to spearfish and smoke cherry cigars on Lake Ewok when Dan was just a snotty-nosed little punk.
>> What else can you tell us right now?
The gang is working heads-down right now to get new Sam & Max adventures ready for you! Keep an eye out for additional news early next year. In the meantime, fans can expect random infusions of scattershot content which will keep them tuned in to "America's Favorite Obscure Cartoon Duo!"
>> Is Steve ever going to do any more Sam & Max comics? What the hell is his problem?
Steve has started a serialized Sam & Max adventure to be published at snm.telltalegames.com and www.samandmax.com. In the past Steve’s talked about doing something in a strip format but the potential of the web to build a continuing story over time, appeals to his sloth-like, immovable nature. Steve’s so excited about offering this new comic content he actually produced a single goose pimple on his left forearm. Or maybe it’s a tumor.

-----------------------------

I don't know about you guys, but as a LucasArts adventure game fetishist (), I am really looking forward to this game. Hopefully it will do very well, if they pull it off right (the sequel was looking pretty sexy before LucasArts pulled the plug). Of course, if the game does well, it can only mean good things (like maybe Monkey Island 5, finally)for what is a genre in intensive care/life support, since I haven't seen an excellent adventure game since the way-too-short Escape From Monkey Island.

What do you guys think?

I would kill for a Monkey Island 5.

Literally.

You and me both, that's why we have to help make Sam and Max a success, so the dying adventure genre reignites, LucasArts takes notice, and fulfills their goddamned contract.
