Question concerning sound on my new computer

Here's the deal. My old computer (HP Pavilion 735n) had problems, so I bought a new computer (HP Pavilion a1200y). Both HPs used Windows XP. The speakers I used for the old HP were polkaudio, which came with my old HP. They plugged into the back of the tower, and worked fine.

New computer comes, I plug in the same speakers into the back, and I got a problem. The sound is super low. I clicked on the volume icon in the lower right hand corner and made sure the volume was up on everything and that nothing was muted. I checked my drivers and while I don't know which driver is the sound, none of them had the yellow exclamation point.

I tried plugging the speakers into all the other outlets in the back of the comp. and nothing helped. Is it possible my sound card is bad or that my speakers simply won't work with this new comp? Help please.

If you are getting any sound then your card and drivers are fine. You most likely have a setting turned down. Try going into the sound and audio devices in the control panel and make sure everything is as high as it can go.

If you go into the Advanced... button on the Device Volume it should bring up the Play Control. Make sure everything is maxed but the Play Control.
