Ryan Giggs has backed Wales' bid to clinch a place in the Euro 2004 finals through the back door by appealing to Uefa over Yegor Titov's involvement in the competition's play-offs.
The wing wonder has lended his support to the cause even though initial reports have indicated that Uefa are extremely unlikely to throw Russia out of the tournament.

Titov tested positive for bromantan after the first leg in Moscow but played in the second leg in Cardiff, which ended in a 1-0 win for Russia that broke the hearts of the home side.

"I was very interested to hear that Titov failed a test," Giggs told The Western Mail.

"His admission at taking a banned stimulant, and the fact that he faces a ban from the game, has quite rightly raised question marks over the result of the second leg of our play-off.

"I understand that the Welsh FA have made an official protest to Uefa and that they're trying to get the result overturned.

"I support them in that.

"Personally, I would be delighted if Uefa reinstated us, but I don't want to think about that too much at this stage.

"I haven't booked any holidays for the summer yet. So it will be no problem to rearrange my plans!"

And I read in the Western Mail this morning that if Uefa/Fifa ignore their appeal, they will take them to court! I'm glad Wales are doing something about it, and they are not taking this incident lightly. Come on! We can do it!

Sorry but i can't see it being overturned.

Wouldn't Giggs miss the first 2 matches anyway?

Russia were the better team and Wales should leave it at that they shouldn't go bitching about it, I mean Russia were in our group so if we assume that he took the drugs thten aswell then we and all the teams in our group should get in

He only took the drugs for the play-offs though didn't he?

And also, it's just plain cheating. It's a performance enhancing drug. Gary Speed gave an interview after the match and said he couldn't believe how fit they all were. I personally think we have a strong case here, and the Welsh football association agreed yesterday in a meeting that they will go as far as they can to get that decision overturned.

Yeah he only took drugs for the play-offs but if Wales can get the result overturned for that match then Fifa should do the same with all the others like Juventus with Davids,which would cost Juve the title so i don't think it would be overturned.

In fairness to the Welsh though,i would do the same in their position.

Well as everyone saw, they lost. Twas obvious if you ask me the Russians would have went mad if they were kicked out of the tournament over one players actions.
