My WWE entry addition in Wikipedia DELETED (wresting related, possible spoilers)

Here's the deal: If you don't know what Wikipedia is, it's an open-entry website, meaning that anyone can resonably edit any entry they see to add current issues and update them, as long as it's clean and to the point (and factual).

So the night before, I went on there and updated alot of entries for their wrestling stuff. I went to update a bit on Michael Cole's page (adding a quote he uses regularly, and fix it so it's not completly biased of him sucking to high hell, saying that he actually is a good commentator), Joey Styles (on his screaming voice and how that was what got him to become the "voice of ECW"), and THEN, the one I need to discuss.

I then went to the WWE main entry, where it has a LOT of stuff on it. One of those things is explination of the death of Eddie Guererro. Now, it went to where Eddie's family spoke during the press conference about his death, and then stopped. That's where I came in.

I had added the part that we're getting pissed off about: The exploitation of Eddie's legacy and death in the current Orton/Mysterio storyline. I had mentioned the "eddie's down there, in hell" quote, and what he said the episode after the Rumble, and that Foley and Chavo are not pleased with the direction the storyline is taking. That stayed.

BUT, THEN I went to say that people are ALSO outraged that the person who would be saying such stuff (Orton) is rumored to WIN the match at NWO. And the match at WM is rumored to be Angle/Orton, and also that Eddie's family was invited to attend NWO. THIS is the part that was deleted just one night later, as the latest, as I just found out.

Why the importance? Because it seems that either someone didn't see the relevance of the part about the proposed winner for the NWO match in that Eddie thing, OR SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THAT?! Considering the fact that so many people read Wiki on a regular basis, I can say the latter is more likely. Since Wiki is open-ended, anyone can add AND DELETE stuff at will. So who deleted that, and why?

By the way, I reposted it. Unless I specifically say on that site that it's me, not a soul knows it was me or anyone else, for that matter. Only you know because I'm telling you now that it's me. And the casual wrestling fan (those that don't go onto the internet sites daily if at all and just take the biz day by day) won't even think of visiting here. Now, let's see if someone deletes it AGAIN! This time I didn't dd the stuff about Eddie's family being invited to NWO, just the proposed Orton win there. Here's the new quote, so you know what was said in case someone does so. I put the disputed stuff in bold (the stuff in only italics never got deleted):

The death, however, has begun to raise the ire of many in the wrestling world, most of which stems to how the WWE has been using the death in other storylines, the most recent being a set up for a SmackDown feud between Randy Orton and Eddie's best friend Rey Mysterio. After a month of Mysterio dedicating numerous matches of his to his friend admist controversy, on the Febuary 3rd, 2006 episode of SmackDown, Orton confronted Mysterio to challenge him at WWE No Way Out for his won Wrestlemania 22 title shot, and said that Eddie Guererro wasn't in Heaven, but "down there, IN HELL!!" During the end of the same SmackDown, Orton mentioned that Rey had as much chance to win the World Heavyweight Title as there was a chance of Eddie coming back to life. This storyline has left other wrestlers feeling dismayed, with Mick Foley saying on a WWE.com blog that he doesn't think that the WWE needs to create "cheap heat" for Orton. Chavo has came out to also disprove of the angle. Many fans in the internet community have expressed outrage over the continued use of Eddie in the storylines. There were also rumors on the internet speculating that Orton, the man that is in the storyline saying the lines, was planned to emerge the victor of the No Way Out match, leaving many in outrage, as Orton's previous World Title run was not as popular as the WWE would've hoped, and the rumored Angle vs. Orton match would fall upon angered minds. Some feel it would've also rewarded Orton in the story for what he had said, something in which many felt would be the biggest blow of all for Eddie's "legacy".

SO, what do you think? Was it just without relevance, or am I telling people something someone doesn't want you to know for NWO?

Wikipedia did the same to me in my Zelda entry. I just updated a part that says Link first spoke (not counting the cartoon series or CD-i games) in the Wind Waker. I change it to Ocarina of Time. Since that was when he first spoke. You walked by a ledge as Young Link and he would slip and grab on with one hand and audiably mutter "Oh no!". I looked a day later and it was gone.

So I know what you mean.

LOL.

I bet Gohan deleted it to save anyone else the agony of suicide after spoilers ruined their lives.

See what I did there? I made it topical, but also took a stab at someone.

Seriously, some people are more anal and retarded about "spoilers" than our buddy Gohan, and rumours of this sort have no place in an Encyclopedia
.

More than likely, like KK suggested, it was deleted because it wasn't fact, just speculation, which is technically inappropriate. It's not like you were wrong, but something like that just doesn't belong in an encyclopedia, that's all.

Though thanks to WWE, the footbnote to his legacy does deserve to be there. It's just bad Encyclopediaing to spculate on future events. The point is to serve as a reference, and this really isn't the most appropriate of things.

I wouldn't put it past the WWE, either, for them to actually delete it themselves in order to avoid any kind of scrutiny. Face it, the internet wrestling fan base is FUMING over BOTH this storyline and the proposed outcome, but it's just us that knows about it. What if EVERYONE knew that Rey was in check to lose his title shot, many of which think that he deserves that spot? The WWE would never be able to go through with their intended plans, so poof, it would be gone in a flash if they saw it.

Then again, this is just saying that I don't put it past them to do something like that just to keep a pretty face for the (s)marks

No, they don't do that, trust me. If they were Wikipedia would ban them because coperations and people can't edit their own bios.

Let's be realistic. It's not like it doesn't happen, and the people who edit their own profiles usually are smart enough not to log in as "WWE CORPORATE" Or whatever when editing.

If they're doing it from the office, though, they probably provide their own internet and thus the IP would go back to WWE.

Either way, they don't do it.

Yeah, no corporation ever has people who do office work at home or pople who work at home, and such things would be completely unheard of...

...Except they've been happening with other groups of people, so despite the impossibility, it's happened and was not. Initially. Discovered.

Yeah...and, for some people, IP addresses are not necessarily the same every time you log in to the net, either.

Yeah, but unless they OWN Wikipedia, and are the only people with access to it, that argument is moot.

The odds are far greater that either
  1. Someone didn't feel speculation was appropriate, or
  2. Someone did feel it was a spoiller.

Actually, I don't know about that.

The one thing I forgot to mention is that you don't have to log in at ALL in order to add/delete anything on Wikipedia. Hell, you don't even need to create an ACCOUNT! I know because I edited everything I did without ever having any account. If I didn't need an account to add/delete stuff on there, no one else does, and thus, the editor/deleter could've been ANYONE.

I'm not saying that you're wrong...it could rather be a Wiki person who just doesn't want that on their site just yet because it hasn't happened. And you may BE right, judging from what I posted about the recent push by wrestlers backstage pushing for Rey to win at NWO . (highlight the hidden text to see it, because it might be a spoiler for No Way Out).

That's the thing. I've edited wikipedia before, and it doesn't take much, but it also doesn't take much to post stuff that doesn't belong there.
