I recently played the original. It plays like Smackdown Lite (ie. crap), and while it looks decent (graphics are ok, but I prefer non-animated porn), it's got the worst voice acting I've ever heard (next to Dead or Alive 2 anyway).

So what makes this one seem any better?

For a 360 game I can't say I'm overly impressed visually. I mean... it's shiny I guess.
