How would it go over?

If someone came along and created a promotion centered around Tag Team Wrestling (I'm not sure if there has been one) now, how do you think it would go over?

It could consist of ONLY tag, six man, handicapped etc matches. They would have the World Tag Team championship, World Six Man Championship, and a midcard title or two. The only reason they would ever hold singles matches is to break up a team or to further a BIG storyline. Otherwise, everything is tag matches.

With the WWE completely ignoring the tag division, I think it could be midly successful, even if not on a national level.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't watch. Tag team wrestling is pretty unbelievable.

Cant see it working as the focal point of a promotion.

Even if it could work, there's not enough talent out there to start up a promotion with enough teams to make a viable promotion.

However, the WWE should do a better job with the tag teams, but they just dont care for whatever reason. If you look at the big boom periods, both times the tag division was a solid part of the lineups every night.

Won't work IMO.

What happens when a tag team breaks up? The two guys then have to find another tag team partner. Also, you can only have so many unique gimmicks in a division, so most of them would be too generic or identical.

I'd be interested. Could a put a greater emphasis on stables.

There's an indie promotion in Pennsylvania called Chikara that does a lot of Tag/Trios matches. In fact, they're having a massive tag tournament this weekend.

MId-Atlantic wrestling was at one time centered on tag team wrestling, but it also had a decent singles roster to break up the monotany.

You MIGHT be able to pull of a promotion where the only titles they had were Tag Titles, (World, US, Hardcore, Cruiser) but they would have to have a lot of singles matches...actually this wouldn't be all that bad....but it's kind of like the six sided ring, it will never ADD anything, so why change it?

I can honestly see it working. Tag team wrestling has been greatly unexplored, in my opinion. When was the last time a tag team evolved? When was the last time a tag team changed gimmick together? When was the last time two partners who seem like a makeshift pairing actually have a connection in their past which holds them together?

Tag team wrestling is a science, and when they use it right, only good things can happen. I actually wouldn't mind it if the WWE did something like this.

They could create a new show on WWE.com based solely around the tag team division. Have wrestlers still appear on SmackDown! & RAW, but only as singles competitors. It eliminates the presence of makeshift teams, as guys like Paul London can be seperate as tag team wrestlers and singles wrestlers by which show they are on.
